The audience at the Elbphilharmonie has already experienced that Barbara Hannigan is not only one of the best singers in her field, but also a brilliant conductor. With Igor Stravinsky's "The Rake's Progress" she is now taking over the musical direction of an opera for the first time - not an accidental choice, as it is the first she has sung on stage herself. It tells of the fall of the anti-hero Tom Rakewell, who leads a dissolute life after the death of his father and squanders his inheritance in brothels and gambling houses. Peppered with dazzling characters and numerous echoes of music history, Stravinsky created a milestone of modern music theatre, which Hannigan now brings to the stage with the Ludwig Orchestra, with whom she is closely acquainted, and hand-picked graduates of her Young Artists Foundation to close the Musikfest.
