In general, make sure the lifting area is clear of stray plates and collars, or anything else you could trip over. Also, collar the bar for the squat, deadlift and overhead press, and ensure that the correct weight is loaded on both sides of the bar.

Thank you for this safety advice. Now, I know how to bench press without a spotter. Tbh, my bench press PR is quite low, compared to deadlift and squat.

Most people have the opposite problem that their bench press is way too high compared to their deadlift & squat - yours might actually be where it should be.

Great video. I made the mistake last November of having the safety pins about 12 inches too low on the squat - I am still paying the price for it. So your advice to have the pins 'just below' the bottom of the squat is spot on!!! Thanks Matt.

Great video guys! On/Off lockdowns caused me to just buy my own rack. Was looking for some good info on how to properly set it up when lifting solo.

\start rant\ Most gyms have one or two squat racks tops and all benches are bolted to the floor. And most people bench without a spotter on the traditional flat bench press setup. Literally accidents waiting to happen and gym owners dont give 2 hoots. They'd rather have like 10 leg press machines and 10 smith machines than invest in a few power/squat racks with moveable benches \end rant\

Great timing! Just used this with my bench PR. I couldn't get it back on the j hooks after and just slid out under the pins. Easy peasy.

Bench press can be dangerous for those who don’t take the necessary precautions, so it’s a relief to hear you were able to bail out safely!

Is that the brother whom you mentioned on a recent podcast? His knees stay locked in position really nicely on those squats!

Why so few views? Isn't this the most important part of the introduction to barbell training? Because it prevents you from.. You know, dying? 🤔

Would rather use one shoe for both deadlifting and for squating so if possible I would love some recommendations on that as well. I mean one pair of shoes not just one shoe. Lol
@BarbellLogic
@BarbellLogic 4 года назад
We'd definitely recommend getting a shoe with a heel for your first pair of lifting shoes. You can deadlift in those, as well. What is your budget?

@@mikeo.1963 We have a great video describing the qualities you should be looking for in any given shoe at the following link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3CN6XLGBPPI.html

@@mikeo.1963 As for specific weightlifting shoes, without knowing how wide or narrow your foot is, Adidas Powerlift 4 and Adidas Power Perfect 3 shoes are great, inexpensive choices within your price range. Rogue Do-Wins are a fairly inexpensive option, as well. The heel height for these shoes are a bit different, and depending on your anthropometry, you may opt for a smaller heel if you're going to be using these for deadlifts, as well.
