The fashion is more early 90’s than the whole of the 90’s... we’re talking 1990-‘95. The early 90’s was still trying to find its way out of the 80’s. Just take a look at what the spice girls would wear, along with other idols; the fashion was really out there and yeah, shoulder pads were still a thing. However, the make up of these dolls is modern. For starters, we all had pencil thin eyebrows not thick. My favs are the petite with the purple buns and the ginger guy.

I love that BMR has a doll with the midge sculpt, I didn’t like her as a kid but she’s been missing so long that now I miss her. I wish the dolls had actual canon names like they used to besides Barbie but I’m still gonna call her midge lol

THANK YOU! There is obviously nothing wrong at all with focusing on diversity, but when it’s completely possible to not have a problem to balance that and quality out then unfortunately the company will suffer a little from lack of buyers. Mattel was able to do both when they did Fashion Fever, why can’t they do it now?

@datsquisheeboi
@datsquisheeboi 3 года назад
The bucket hat doll is a nod to the green hair doll from the first release. She is supposed to be a tomboy since today's fashion is becoming more and more androgynous and a large part of that is because of the 90s. For instance Aaliyah wearing baggy clothes and athleisure. As 90s Black culture is the topic of this doll line, bucket hats often come in and out of style in the Black community. I'm glad they made this line because we've been asking for more Black culture fashion and hairstyles. Even though it looks like exactly what it is: nonblack designer trying to imitate Black style- I like that they tried. Next they need to hire more than one Black designer at a time...

I’m tired of Barbie making African ethnicity dolls with loud colored and unflattering garish hair & lip colors that they seem to ONLY put on those dolls. If her hair is lavender, I need her eyebrows to be more subtle, especially if she is going to wear door knocker earrings.

Barbie had diversity before, not so much, but she did have different skintones and facemolds, now they only added different bodies, which shouldn't take so much of budget that the quality has to be so bad, and design has to be clownery.
@LaBellesGrace

Yes! I think the problem now is they are focusing on creating more face molds and body types when they already have so many already created that they can reuse. Hopefully they get back to their quality roots soon.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE all the great new face sculpts but want the great MTM bodies on them. The ginger guy is gorgeous! Mattel!!! Give us some MENA sculpts! I would buy the heck out of obvious MENA face sculpts and fashion.

I'm not a fan of the female bmr1959 dolls I prefer the male dolls especially Tate (the name of the face sculpt) I bought multiple versions of him. & i did that with the two other guys from the bmr1959 line. I kept one of each in the boxes & have head swapped a couple. but I REALLY do like this line of dolls the amount of articulation they have & the different skin tones and face sculpts & hair colours is what I like the most. The fashions don't really bother me cause if I don't like them I change the clothes for some that I have already.

@MeshellD

You're right shoulder pads were not 90s. The big eyebrows were a thing in 90s among the men, the women had really thin eyebrows. so was the weird hats but you see it more famously like Brittney spears white hat, etc. The pants of the the first one is a little off it was more the parachute pants in the 90s. 90s you did see the jerseys like on the 1st one. The only one I like and I feel is the most accurate of the 90s is the one with the pink hair. Though the guy is pretty accurate too. The 90s was my whole childhood and key point in my life, a little disappointed at the representation they did of the 90s.

And let’s not forget that fact that they are also listed at 29.99, like ummm rainbow high dolls cost around 26.99 and come with more things and much better quality and less tacky clothes, I mean I get it they have to make different body’s, head sculpt, skin tone, etc. and it can be a bit expensive, but at the same time it’s supposed to be a fashion line, their main focus should be fashion, and no I’m not saying that they shouldn’t focus on adding diversity it’s just that when they focus on both they tend to only focus on the diversity more and just slap on a cheap outfit that looks like a circus outfit👩🏻‍🦲

@@c.w.2000 I am sorry but a fashion doll line focuses on stylish and detailed clothes (Example: Rainbow High and LOL OMG). This line on the other hand does not. They took random pieces, slapped them together and created 4 cheap trashy looks. If they actually wanted to focus on diversity they would revive a line called Barbie Look, which in the beginning was an attempt at showing diversity while using simple fashion. I really like these, but I wasn’t able to get any of them. I really wanted these ones and the other set of the 1959 ones.. but with are income problems right now just couldn’t happen. But I’m glad you finally opened them.. stay safe!

I don't enjoy the fashions on this line, either, but I have all of them and have redressed them. They're fabulous redressed.
