A tour of Dave Wilson Nursery during our busiest time of year- our Bare root tree harvest. Tom shows you how we dig, process and deliver millions of trees every winter.
I got my order of fruit trees today! They all look so happy, strong and healthy. This company has the greatest products. I look forward to future orders!
I got my sweet treat pluerry last year for my birthday.... and 9 other varieties. But the sweet treat, and two other pluerries are what I'm most excited to taste. This year, maybe, if I'm lucky? Surely next!!!
I've been bing watching your videos Tom and I think what I'd really like to see is what trees you have selected for your backyard orchard. A "Tom's List" of backyard varieties. Maybe answer the question of why you selected each variety. Was it because of taste, ripening time, soil or sunlight conditions etc. Thank you for your work. CL
Great video as usual! Thanks--My great uncle owned a truck farm in Pomona for many years. Now we have a small backyard orchard going in Nevada--and your videos have had great tree and orchard information...Thanks!
I've been thinking the same thing, and have missed more regular updates from Tom! I've started a channel in the past year dealing specifically with backyard orchard techniques. Feel free to stop by! ru-vid.com
We live in northern California and look every year for your bare root honeycrisp apple trees but nobody seems to have them. Hoping to see some on our area this year.
We started a backyard orchard based off your videos 2 years ago. All but a couple are dave wilson nursery. We also have a few varieties of berries from you. We want to start a small apple orchard this year and have had a hard time finding your honeycrisp bare roots. Would love some direction as to where we canfind them. Checked your website last year but couldn't find any in our area. We live in northern California.
Oh hi Tom! Long time, no see..! I've had no choice but to keep 5 fruit trees in pots for TWO LONG YEARS! This was not my plan. I've fed and watered them properly and they look okay. Any tips for planting out this winter (in Australia)? Should I prune the roots and or tops hard or not? Great video - I envy you your job.
Make sure you are keeping the scaffold structure pruned to no more than 1 1/2 times the size of the root ball when being kept in containers. The less time in containers the better. Make sure root balls are fully irrigated before removing from container. Never plant a dry root ball. Enjoy your trees.
Is it best to get the trees into the ground as soon as I get them? I’m in Southern California. Thanks greatly appreciated. Hope I can find a sweet tree pluerry. Any where in SoCal you know will have them?
Yes, plant as soon as you can. www.davewilson.com/home-gardens/where-to-buy/retail-sources/Sweet%20Treat%20Pluerry™%20Interspecific%20Plum/SWETR/product-information/product/sweet-treat-pluerry-interspecific-plum/Yes//
jujube's are fine when they start ripening if you want a tart crispy apple like fruit but let them dry and become what they are known as "asian dates" when they are dried and chewy man that's how I like 'em
Hi Tom I'm having some problem with my flavor supreme 4 in 1 pluot tree is being in the ground for 3 years now, and last year and this year hardly any flowers, any recommendations,..? What variety can be a good pollinator for black splendor plum.. thanks
My first guess would be over watering. Maybe from poor drainage. Water only every 10 to 14 days in the hottest months, letting the soil dry first few inches between watering.
The state of California is Mediterranean climate low-frost: freezing temperatures, but the summer months are mild to low-desert temperatures. So we depend on Sierra Nevada range, snow melt in spring... I remember in the 1990's the valley was colder, and foggy weather. www.farmersalmanac.com/will-this-winters-weather-be-a-repeat-of-1989-1990-11046 Will This Winter's Weather Be a Repeat of 1989/90? - Farmers ...
@@DaveWilsonTrees Thanks for the reply. I bought my cherry tree as a multi grafted tree. It has blue paint on the root stock, blue on the leader branch and green on another branch. The other two branches are not painted. :( The local nursery label reads R/B/UG/V Maz which I assumed are Rainier/Bing/Utah Giant/Van on Mazzard rootstock. Unfortunately, I have four branches that have their own printed tags for Van (blue paint leader branch) Rainier (green paint), Bing (unpainted), and Lapins (unpainted).
28 bare root trees, 24 of them dave Wilson, and the 2 trees I've lost in 5 years were due to flat nosed borers. My only problem has been finding more room when an interesting variety like Royal crimson cherry comes out.
