New Ukulele tutorials every Wednesday and Saturday, Baritone the 1st or 2nd Wednesday of the month.
Today we are going to learn how to solo on the baritone ukulele, specifically, how to find the scale that you can use to solo over any chord progression. It works like this, the first thing you need to identify is the key of the song, this will tell you if it is major or minor and what scale to use. If the song is in G, then you need to find G root and build the G major pentatonic scale. If you it is B minor you find the B note and build the B minor pentatonic. The major root is on the G string and the minor root is on the E string. You find that root and you build around that root.
All songs are either or minor and all songs sound great with the pentatonic. Once you learn how to find the minor or major root and build shape 1 around that root you can use that scale to literally jam and solo to any song every written. A great way to practice is to put your favorite song on your home stereo, google the key, find the root, build the scale and jam along with it!
Once you master the ability to construct the principal shape, shape 1, the next step is to learn all 5 shapes and how to fluidly move between them. Here is a link to E minor pentatonic, all 5 shapes - • E Minor Pentatonic Sca...

Amazing! All these years of playing rhythm guitar and wondering how those shredders did it and now I know. I can do that. I didn’t know I could do it, but I can. Thanks for sharing these tips. I yes, I am now a subscriber. Thanks again.

Funny as you were playing the G scale at first I was thinking that’s the Em pentatonic scale forgetting that was the relative minor lol.

Do you only use the D string in the first of the five shapes?

So, when let's say I wanna jam to Somewhere over the rainbow Do I need to keep in mind the chord progression? Or just Jam to the Ab major key? I can do the song while strumming, never did it with scales
@TenThumbsProductions
@TenThumbsProductions 4 месяца назад
If you are playing the song in Ab major you can just play the Ab major pentatonic and let it rip. Later on you will want to think about the notes in the scale and the chord progression a little more but what it so cool about the pentatonic scale is it takes out the two notes that are very unstable, you are left with 5 notes, 3 being stable and 2 being semi stable, meaning you really can't play a terrible note. In the future you do want to try and think of chord tones, meaning what notes are in the scale and the chords or the chord progression. That way you can articulate your solos more with the chord progression, a process some refer to as playing with the changes, but for the time being just let 'er rip and build up some muscle memory.

This works beautifully! I'm confused about one thing. I thought minor pentatonics dropped the 4th and 7th, but these are still dropping the 2nd and 6th like a major scale. Can someone explain that to me please.
@TenThumbsProductions
@TenThumbsProductions 8 месяцев назад
Excellent question! The major pentatonic drops the 4th and the 7th the minor pentatonic drops the 2nd and the. 6th, I still end up using the 2nd a lot with the minor scale I also love to make that 6th a major interval and play Dorian with the minor scale. Thanks for the comment and support!
