If folks struggle with this tempo, they may want to know that starting in the mid-70s, when the Dead played this live, they slowed it down TREMENDOUSLY. There is a really nice duet Josh, or maybe Jacob turner, plays with claw hammer banjo I love but I definitely built the tutorial off the American Beauty album. I love the slower version that you shared too. You know it is a great song when any key, any tempo, it sounds good.

@@jasneskis start with just minor major, you’ll start to hear it. A great way is both A major and A minor so you can really just focus on the feel and don’t have to worry about any other notes.
Thank you for this lesson. I love the Grateful Dead, and I especially love this song. I just started learning to play the Ukulele. I know how to play this song on guitar, so it's nice to know how to play it on the Ukulele. I just wish I were a better singer. 😁

If you like the sound of the dominant V chord that is absolutely correct and it is always an option. The reason that is, as you may very well know but just in case someone is reading and is curious, there are 3 keys that have E major chord. E, A and B, but A is the only key of the 3 that has a D note. The D note is the b7th of E another way of saying that is the D note is the added note that makes the E major chord become the E7 chord.
That was really good playing, but unfortunately 20:38 the first chorus is "be as one" not "live as one". Also for some reason you played the second verse twice and you forgot the third verse alltogether.🤔🤷♂️✌️

I bookmarked this, but it is highly incomprehensible when you read music. God sakes, isn't there just someone who does scales with you on the internet and uses real musical notation? This is so complicated, it is an illterate method of learning notes on an instrument. God, I just hate this. I think all ukelele players must be dolts.
@@cefarther3945What are you talking about? I sight read music and so do all my professional musician peers and they are all versed in the Roman numeral system when discussing and analyzing chord progressions. Classic Dunning Kruger. You are too much of a dolt to know are the king of them hahaha.

Good tutorial, I play guitar so ukulele tuning is weird to me, only played a couple days on uke. I wanted to mention that you're opening your fingers on chord form changes making the down-up strums a C6 chord on changes. It won't have the same sound if you make your chord changes instantly. In other words, that's part of the groove (just feel it, man)! I just wanted to point that out for future viewers who may not have any fretted instrument experience. 4 years late for the game!
@@TenThumbsProductions I should clarify I use my own strum pattern. I'm looking for chords that fit into sections of bars. Specifically quarter bars as i use kind of an amature reggae strum of chuck, down up, chuck, down. Or it's possible I'm not understanding. Please let me know if that's the case.
