We attempt to get my Bronco with a big block 460 up and running after it has been sitting in a barn for years. This video has some old videos of this Bronco at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan. #Bronco #SilverLakeDunes #Willitrun
They are worth a lot of money, but this type of vehicle, has memories and a past no money can buy, Guy needs to get it restored and keep it for the whole family, one of the kids I am sure would love to do what there dad did in it, have lots of fun driving it.
Restore it!!!! My goodness, what a diamond in the rough. Plus think of the video content you've uncovered. I'd love to follow the restoration. Please don't get rid of him!
As an lifelong Ford guy myself, Last November picked up a 73 Tbird reminds me of my childhood in the 70s.Good God do I miss the 70s. This beautiful Bronco looked out for you back in the day right?? Now it's you're time to bring him home for good. Besides how many of those do you see today on the road?? Yup, almost never now. That Bronco is family at this point right? Would you send family down the road with strangers???
Neil, that things sweet. I’d freshen it up, keep it simple and enjoy it. That’s a lot of history in your life to get rid of it like that. I know you’re a Ford man, and I know you love that thing. 🤓
Yeah. I lost a lot of time editing this video cause I got sucked into a bunch of 20 year old video tapes! Was fun to walk down memory lane. This is the first time I've ever made good use of all the old home movies! Thanks for watching Tony!
I like your thinking. Fuel filter can’t leak if it can’t fill up so pedal to the floor😎 I vote keep it fix it up some and make a RU-vid series out of it. That way you can tell the wife it’s a good investment and it’s generating income. Every body wins. 😁
I like the way you think Jason! I always pictured the inside of the fuel lines being eroded on this thing as fast as the gas runs through it! I may need to call upon you as a mediator when I sit down with the wife to discuss 😋 Thanks for watching. Hope you're doing well.
@@digdrivediy anything I can do to help just reach on out 😂 I got your back buddy Looking forward to parts 2 through X of the bronco restoration project
Neil, not sure how I missed this video. I have always wanted a bronco. Before my daughter was born I went to look at one in a town called Mishawaka IN. After test driving it I decided I would buy it. I walked back to my car where my buddy sat in the passenger seat to get the money to pay the seller. My buddy started shaking his head and chuckling. I said "what?". He said- you are the only guy I know who would buy a POS bronco a few days before your first child is born. Well, at that moment guilt sunk in and a reality check came into my life. It was probably the first time I didn't buy something because of someone else. I cussed my friend the whole way home (over 2 hours) for making me feel bad and talking some sense into me. He's still a very dear friend that I think a lot of, but damn him I never have owned a bronco to this day. Haha. Thanks again for your videos. Keep the entertainment coming. If you decide to sell your old gal, maybe I would be a buyer. You could take it to the dunes anytime you wanted (I am in Michigan). Take care.
I can totally understand. I've had similar situations and feelings in that department. Thanks so much for sharing that story. It is very poignant. There is a reason this Bronco hasn't seen much action in the last 10+ years as my daughters approach 10 years of age. I hope to maybe go to the dunes with it again. My wife is on board since we can now take our daughters and hopefully have a great time as a family. I might have to keep you in mind though once it makes it's last trip! Thanks again for the great comment and appreciate you watching.
Look at Neil…. Riding the Bronco! I think most guys have a vehicle from their youth that brings fond memories. One that we outgrew… or otherwise gave up before our sense of automotive adventure was arrested. That Bronco is a perfect example! Mine was a 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser. I bought it in 1975 with 6,400 miles on it. It had a hard top convertible with swingout doors. When I showed up at the chats (piles of gravel left over from the lead and zinc mines) no one had ever seen one. The six cylinder engine made them scoff… but, for some reason… it’s lighter weight, perfectly matched tires and low range 4x4 in 4th gear… made it float up the gravel piles better than anything else. I have way too few fond memories of it… a few photos and no videos. It was driven out of my life because of its impracticality. We were broke… a second child was on its way… its side facing rear seats afforded no place for toddler and newborn passengers… and, most importantly…. It had the kind of ride that guys craved and my wife loathed. Had I kept it in the immaculate shape it was in…. stock T-LC’s of that vintage are worth $20K to $30K today. But, the decision to trade made itself. I moved on to the world of Pickups. Even now, my heart skips a beat every time I see a Land Cruiser in that body style. I’ve often thought it would be fun to own one again… but, because we could be standing in the middle of a whole parking lot filled with Land Cruisers and my wife wouldn’t even notice them… I think that’s a thought I’ll just keep to myself. There is a demand for those Broncos today and you are an accomplished tinkerer. Every car guy out there will advise you to fix it up… However it is your family demands which are evolving. This is a decision that you can’t make alone… So, my advice to you Neil is to do what you want to do. Your heart and family will steer you true! By the way… what name did you give the Bronco?
You provide great advice and a great story to go with it Mr. Harris. When would you be available to help co-write some of these episodes? I love the way you make a point and respond to the message I'm trying to share. I think anyone that has any type of gearhead tendencies likely has a story like this. I have a couple other vehicles I think about with fond memories. I still dream about driving my Mustang that I had in High School! Thanks for sharing the story of your Land Cruiser. I know there is quite a following for those machines nowadays. We had International Scouts growing up and they have a similar type of following. I always say that since I'm not into sports that John Deere and Ford are my "teams". I appreciate the advice concerning the Bronco. You're exactly right in that it will be a family decision. As long as I can keep it outta sight, Mama doesn't mind what I do with it. We have been talking about taking the girls to the dunes though, so.... Thanks as always!
That is cool that you have video from back in the day. I'm glad there weren't any cameras around back in the 80's, I'm pretty sure I would go to jail for some of the stupid stuff I did. Lol. Good video.
Haha! So true BD! I'm glad there were no cell phone cams back then too! I've been making videos long before RU-vid and I've finally found an opportunity to use them. Thanks so much for watching friend!
Im with all your others viewers. Bring er back to life . You dont have to do a full restoration just get her back to running and driving. Great video once again !!!
I like the sound of that. I've never been too much of a "full restoration" type of guy. Function over form! I may just be shopping for Bronco parts soon...
Keep it alive. Find a new hiding spot for it so the wife doesn't see it. That's what I do with all my extra cars the wife doesn't know I have. Love the videos. I'd come buy that bronco and add it my collection if I wasn't so far away in Virginia.
Hi From a fairly new subscriber, your old friend is awesome, Do old faithful a favor and save her, Do NOT junk old faithful, she gave you some thrilling rides and won you a trophy, i know life has changed and outlook is different your married and have kids but you have a soft spot in your heart and would never forgive yourself if you let it go, trust me i know i had a car and when i lost it it was like sticking a knife in my heart and turning it very very slow and that knife laughs at me every day and says got you.
I bet that was an awesome feeling headed down the road in it again. The old video footage was great! I think I know why I like you now, all the Fords 😂! I had a Raccoon jump out of a trash can one night on me in Gatlinburg going to the drink machine, I didn’t have on any shoes and it landed right at my feet. So I understand your dislike of opening into parked out vehicles.
It did feel great to have it rolling down the road even though the tires were so bad it was vibrating something terrible! It still responds when you smash the gas and acted as if I had just ran it earlier that day. Gotta love them Fords! I've been sitting on all these old home movies for years. Feels good to put them to use! Thanks for watching friend!
Thanks Andrew! I've always wanted to find a way to incorporate some of my old home movies into these videos. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!
I know im late, im a new subscriber. The instant I saw this 2nd Gen I knew i had to join. I own a 94 bronco and it’s never leaving the family. Just wanted to let you know ( in case you didnt know) 2nd Gen broncos are the RAREST broncos in the family. I can already tell you aren’t getting rid of this baby.
Keep it. Sort it out mechanically. You could pull it to the dunes with your new camper. I wouldn’t mess with fixing the rust except maybe doing some experiments with rust stop paints for the floor boards. Transmission wouldn’t be that much to have rebuilt. & you would have a nice Sunday afternoon convertible for the family
Yeah. I think I'm compelled to keep it now. Do you have room in your new shed? Someone suggested that as a potential storage location. Don't tell Kara.
Please do a rebuild. It don’t have to be a full one just enough to keep it a toy for you and the kids. And yes it will bring a lot of RU-vid content that I will for sure watch and I know thousands of others will too.
I like hearing that kind of feedback. I wasn't sure how viewers would respond to this so it is reassuring. I hope to maybe get it to the dunes one more time.
Hi Neil. I’ve owned several Broncos of that vintage and Ford trucks and they are a ton of fun. Heck I’ve likely ran into you at Silver lake around that time. My buddies and I used to go there several weekends during the summer about 20 years ago. I’m working on an early 76 Bronco right now and is the only one I have left. I wish I still had my 78 also but I sold it. I’d say rebuild it. If you’re looking to sell I might be interested.
That's awesome. We were up there every year too back then. I'm hoping to get it going again for a trip this year although my project list is a bit lengthy these days. I'll keep it around for now at least.
These old trucks are worth more money than ever. I've got a 92 Bronco I considered selling but my wife won't let me so it's gonna go under the knife at some point here...
Found this while I'm looking at an 86 to buy for cheap and try to get moving. Hopefully I can her started as easy as you did! Also, takes some major cajones to drive with a gas leak right over the exhaust manifold 😂
I like it. Some of the trucks in my old videos still exist. Would be fun to see if we could get them all back to the dunes. I want to take the girls there anyway, so...
What do we think? 1979 bronco... only year made with the square headlights with that gril. Seen ol boy still got the power saw ya get sideways. I'd deffinately fix him up. He's done you good as friend and never failed ya. It's your turn now!
Love the old footage. Keep it alive and running and USE it and ABUSE it as you always have done, enough with the 6 figure Dreamland, they never get put to use.
Great looking Truck , do the right thing do it up build it a home with rooms for the kids above your going to need both in the end , you know it makes sense ,,oh by the way Kleeman sent me ?
That's no joke! The OSB blew out the back when I was driving it home so had to go back and get it before it was stolen off the road!! I like that garage idea too!
I Certainly Hope I’m Not Too Late With My Plea ! Please Not A Fiery Grave. He’s A Keeper In My Mind. New Subscriber Here, Just Catching Up On Your Content, I’m A Fan Already
They are worth a lot of money right now. Depending the area and whats up with it 5-30k, again depending on the truck. My personal opinion is that you have a lot of Sentimental value to it. I say fix it up enough to play with it and enjoy it. Not dump a ton of money but a little. I understand the relationships have a give and take. If you want to keep your bronco , talk to your wife and have some sorta compromise. Like getting a carport for it. I just never truly understand that thing with somone’s wife or husband says they cant have this but each to there own. I can see it if its a junkyard or a spouses hobby is draining them of their money. Anyway Dont send it to fiery grave. Sell it and make some money from it and let another fellow enjoy it. Either way I just hope you do what makes you happy with your bronco. Good luck buddy .
I appreciate all the feedback. As of right now, I'm planning to fix it up and try to run it next summer at the dunes. We'll see what happens so stay tuned. Thanks for watching!
New here, this Friend of yours needs a good foam bath, and seem real love, time to restore it, and get the whole family involved, wife don't like it, buy her some flowers, and get the old Bronco done.
I can’t allow you to drive such a dangerous vehicle. Being the great friend that I am, I will sacrifice and take it off of your hands. Just trying to help Neil. -Matt
Rebuild with the girls and give it to them for going to high school and first jobs! Cars built back then last forever and are easily maintained! Like that AJ song “drive”.
DO NOT GET RID OF IT you will forever kick yourself if you do. experience or maybe a hoarder talking here. It has Family history and maybe one of the girls will want it some day down the road. I hope you keep and restore it in some way, maybe it can be a first vehicle for someone.
Lol Neil , Loved your video as I have most. As far as keeping I guess it depends on how much free time you have, and how long wife can stand looking at it. Good Luck !
if its not too rusted id fix it up.you do such nice work i bet it would come out great and maybe the girls will drive it when they get old enough.i loved the door locks on the barn
Thanks so much Ron. I was hoping that someone would notice those door latches. Our neighbor that lived there was a very creative tinkerer. He was huge influence on my Dad and myself. The barn is full of little homemade items like that. Thanks for your input.
Restore it! You will see your views and ratings climb. Besides it's the right thing to do. Trust me I had a few when I was a teen and early 20s that I let go and i'd love to have them now! $$$
It would be a great vehicle for the twins to drive to school. Can you imagine the fun they'd have. You know, like the tame little Mustang you talked your Mama into when you were still in high school....
Oh boy! I don't think I'd be a responsible father if I let them take this anywhere beyond Scipio township! I think you were just jealous of that Mustang is all! Just wished your Vette could keep up! :) I wish I had that car parked in a barn somewhere too. Good memories!
@@digdrivediy I have to admit I'd have had a great time with your Mustang. I knew I'd been hoodwinked when it beat my Vette and worrying about you with that fast car was my reward! Wish you still had that pretty Mustang. It was a beauty!
It’s just like Ol’ Bill. Faithful friends deserve one more chance. A car cover will go a long way to placating Da Boss. And if you can swing the girls to your way of thinking….
I like your train of thought Bob! If I can just make it disappear again, it will likely live on until I can make it a full on project. Time will tell. Thanks for watching!
@@digdrivediy Use some of the old barn wood for a lean-to out back? A complete shed from the old wood? Hide it in the woods at you in-laws? At your cousins new shop? I've let 2 old friends slip away and regretted both to this day. Do whatever it takes to keep it, preferably under shelter (which makes Da Boss happier). How I mis a project vehicle!
@@bobgrier3103 Lots of great ideas. I wish I could keep more of the barn wood. The siding and beams were sold to a company that repurposes old barn wood. So, we're happy in the fact that the barn will live on in some capacity, but it means we don't get to keep too much of it unfortunately. (I will find a way to sneak away enough for a keepsake!)
Keep its "survivor" styling and do the most necessary work only to make it function normally again and have fun with the girls doing some wild mudding reliving your bygone glory days. You probably wouldn't want to have as much fun if you restored it
Right on. That's a good point. I would want to baby it if it were fully restored. I like the word "survivor" although I think it was repainted once already in the late 80's.
@@watkinstreefarm6880 I'm not sure if I can teach anything as I barely know what I'm doing myself!! 😋 But, if you have any specific questions I'm happy to answer best I can!
1) I think it’s awesome you held on to it for so long! And that’s how I would take care of my friends. 2) thanks for taking that minute to reply! It means a lot! 3) And thanks for ignoring that phone typo lol. 4) Last question! What’s the best way to reach out to you with some other questions? I would love to pick your brain on some other DIY and Homesteading things. Let me know what you think is best! Thanks!
Restore it and keep it. It’s part of your past, yeah broncos have really gone up in price but keep it. I have a very nice ‘94 that I have no interest in selling. I know what I could get for it,but it’s mine, probably never sell it.
