I had a 1970 SS El Camino that was fully restored and hot rodded to the max. She was so fast and good looking. Absolutely my most favorite car ever. I would just about sell my soul for that car there lol. Hopefully you will give her the love she deserves and a good long life. She's an absolute beauty.

I love watching barn-find, will-it-start, videos, and 99% of the guys who do them well are overseas, being an El Camino, when I clicked, I thought you were somewhere in the USA, and then I heard the accent, and I was like this fella’s an Aussie! I never was much for elcaminos as a kid in the 90s, there were several in my small town back then. Now being older.. man there awsome, wouldnt mind having one for sure, a car that could haul my dirtbike🤘! Also theres something i love about the 70/80s wheel and tire staggered setup like this, it's not popular and alot of people dont like it these days but that's exactly how I'm setting up my 79 transam. Either solid dish centerlines or with the circle hole cutouts like this. Frickin awsome 👌

Nice work. The dipstick on the driver side, below the breather is the engine oil. A chevy will work with anything that qualifys as a lubricant. We usually st as y on the high side, 10-40 or even straight 30w. The dipstick you checked on the passenger side at the back is for the transmission. The dipstick tube is also the filler tube. Check power steering pump on driver side too(belt driven). Chevys are tough, you probably don't need to pull that motor, it will come back fine! The balancer is interference fit, but fix the bolt before any serious shakeout;)

I just bought a 1966 El Camino 3 weeks ago. I live in Washington state. I have 2 1966 Chevelles, one with a 427 that I’ve had for 43 years now and I have a 1966 Chevelle convertible that I’ve had for 20 years now that’s nice. It has a 283. I also have a 1970 Monte Carlo that I bought a couple of years ago because someone in Australia needs one. It has a 402 big block and is in nice original condition but had a bad rod bearing and chewed up the crank. I bought the parts to make the differential a 12 bolt posi. It has new 3:73 gears and a new posi unit, bearings and axles. The interior is original and in nice condition. I’d love to come visit and help my new Australian friends work on it. All of my close friends died. Heart attack, brain cancer and a vehicle accident all within about a year of each other. They were the best and we all lived in the same neighborhood.

Two pieces of advice. 1. The starter sounds like that because it needs a shim or two between the starter and engine block. You will destroy the starter if you keep cranking it that way. 2. When you pour gasoline in to get it to start, put it in the vent tubes sticking out of the top of the carburetor. That way you fill up the bowls and give it enough gas to get it to start. And yes it's a turbo 350 transmission.

Good going Cody. I had a 68 back in the late 80s. Fun cars and useful when circle track racing. Like someone said add some zinc additive to the motor oil. Next time you get it running check the tranny fluid. Dip stick and fill on the passenger side. A small 2 gallon auxiliary tank will give you enough fuel to help reseat the rings and valves as you heat cycle the engine several times. Remember the auto trans needs to be checked ASAP.

I just bought a 1966 El Camino last month because it’s in great condition with no rust that I’ve seen. It has disc brakes now and the previous owner started fixing it up. I live in Washington state and have 2 1966 Chevelles in addition to the El Camino and we have a 1970 Monte Carlo with a 402 big block. I need friends to work on them with me so I’m not all by myself. I know I'm about a year late on this.. but the turbo 350 is the transmission. its a 3 speed, with no overdrive. A pretty common transmission paired up with small block chevy engines. Not sure if y'all got PB Blaster in Australia but that's my go to rust oil that I use. Be sure to use thicker oil that has a high zinc content for these old motors, some people use diesel oil 10w-40 but I tend to stick with general oil for gassers. If I were you Id keep that intake manifold and dual carb setup, that's gotta be like finding a unicorn in Australia. They're a pain in the ass to tune sometimes but well worth the effort. Look forward to seeing more videos of the ole camino.
