Lyrics:
Bobby drives a pick-up for a corner store
Four bucks an hour and he's hoping for more
He's 28 years old and he still lives at home
Bobby's got ideas, but he ain't alone
There's a million Bobbies across this land
Everybody's got real big plans
He's got something to live for, Something so real
He's got something to live for, That one big deal
Bobby's got an uncle who talks a mean streak
Makes more in an hour than Bobby in a week
He tells the boy, don't waste your time
Be useless like your father, nickel and dime
There's a million Bobbies across this land
Everybody's got real big plans
He's got something to live for, Something so real
He's got something to live for, That one big deal
Bobby could have done-it if he'd only tried
Could have been a contender, could have been a great guy
But he didn't rob a bank or write a hit song
Got a raise and married Yvonne
He's got something to live for, Something so real
He's got something to live for, That one big deal
He's got something to live for, One sweet deal
He's got something to live for, That one sweet deal
He's got something to live for, That one big deal
He's got something to live for...

I still love this music, as a young man on the West Coast in the 80s I worked hard either commercial fishing or as a mechanic/welder and I partied pretty hard too hahaa!! Our small group of friends all liked rock n roll the best and we listened to Barney Bentall, The Hip, BTO, Chilliwack and many other really good Canadian bands. The memories are good and you got to admit that over time our Canadian music still sounds good and well it really holds up over time that's for sure. I'm in my 50s now and I bet I'll still be crankin this stuff up when I'm 70 LOL!

Got to meet Barney after a show at my university around '92. Wayne's World had come out earlier that year and me and a buddy did the "we're not worthy" bow when we met him. Still remember them performing this in the athletics center gymnasium, quite a big space, and they drew a big audience. Great group!

Saw them at Clancy's Live in Burlington, Ontario. Was never a fan at the time but enjoyed their music when it was on the radio or whatever. Just another Canuck band putting out some accessible radio friendly music. Then I saw them live after work (I worked in the Clancy's III kitchen that was attached) and was blown away with the performance. Super tight with an absolutely incredible stage presence. Just a ton of fun to watch and technically superior to many bands that struggle to play their own music live. As in, it's what you hear on the radio but enhanced, which is how it should be. And I'm not confusing bad sound with bad music or performances. This group just ROCKED. We had a number of top acts there and they had, imho, the best performance I'd ever heard there.

Under the upbeat music, this song is bittersweet. It's either about settling for an average life even though you have dreams but never follow through with them or Not "having the world at your fingertips" but content with lowly life because being famous or talented is not everything.

I was introduced to this band back in the early ‘90s when they played at the Ontario Place Forum. I was absolutely blown away. Still can’t understand (and I know I’ll hear about this) how Blue Rodeo became a household name and these guys didn’t. Easily the same calibre of musicianship and songwriting and, onstage, a whole different and far superior level of showmanship.
