Good video bro..this is first coast fungus.. my contraption is off propane..inuse a 2inch flexfab hose..200 bucks for 12ft.. for me I turn heat off when temp gets to.around 140..it climbs to temp and stays for over 12 hours..same thing just diff setup..good job as always
Glad you chimed in. I absolutely love what you did! I would love to see the numbers on propane vs electricity in long term cost. Sounds like we need to collaborate.
I hope you get these messages for now, until i have better means of communication with you. All i can say is my head is just swimming with additions to your set up with my 25 years of building skyscrapers to bat houses. I can really apply my knowledge to this . - DENNIS-
Nice video buddy. You could probably turn one of your heating elements off after the whole systemes gets to the target temperature. That might produce enough steam to keep temps and you would save a lot in electricity costs.
Hey Joe, are you still growing mushrooms? I love your videos and how descriptive you are compared to other companies. I’m just getting started growing mushrooms. Any new videos coming up?
Thats a very high compliment I appreciate that. We're growing more than ever, just have been focusing on building the new op. I will definitely be making more videos.
@@cactushatmushrooms3677 Hi Joe, hope the new facilities are working out. I'm movin' on up into a bigger space next week. I'm building one of your trough sterilizers for the new space. You mentioned using a probe to to figure out the temp. I have a small bubba barrel with a PID that turns the element on and off to keep the temp steady. How do you control the temp during the cook with your setup? Is there a way to do it without the PID? Appreciate your time on this. --Lucas
@@MonValleyMushrooms I've never used a PID. Honestly the PID is the way to go, but you dont need it. You just measure the temp of a block and cook them until you hit your benchmark. This means the elements will be running wide open the whole time.
@@cactushatmushrooms3677 I’m sure they’re gonna be awesome videos, I come back every once in a while and look for your videos specifically and I’m so happy you made this new one. No one talks about this type of pasteurizing even though a lot of people do it, finding space for a business can be hard. Leases can last for years, everything is more expensive, gas is crazy. I hope that one day I can build a 100 x 60 ft shop or something one day and put tents in it like southwest mushrooms does. Anyway I’m a fan, and I wish you all the money and success in your business!
@@SkidMarkSmeller Im building out a 30x100 building currently. If youre gonna build out a 60x100, forget the tents and get a legit grow room that can be pressure washed. I appreciate the kind words!
@@cactushatmushrooms3677 I hope everything goes down in price in the next year or two. Gas is 4.69 which is insane. My home I live in right now is too small to even grow mushrooms. I’m looking at bigger places around me to rent and then hopefully rent out some commercial space in town to do the grow tents. I have a carpet cleaning business so I’m building up to own my own place to build a 60x100 building. Anyway glad your making moves and getting bigger, I always love seeing people succeed. Please give us more updates and grow log/harvest videos. Love your content!
Good video! Could you do one of your trough. I was thinking about possibly using an old stainless steel double door fridge. For now I just have a 55 galbarrel steamer with a false bottom . I like the idea of dual elements as well.
@@cactushatmushrooms3677 yeah that's what I was thinking. It does feel like they don't quite make the connection sometimes or it wiggles out. The first time I thought it might have been me running it overnight and something to do with the dew point. I hadn't had a burnout for a while and then it happened. Not a big deal $75 probably a couple times a year. Thanks for the quick response and I love your videos! They've helped me a lot 🙏!
Thanks for the update brutha! I don't live too far from you and am looking forward to watching your farm grow. Quick question, what are your thoughts on letting your steam vent into something like an old large deep freezer for sterilization? You could probably pick up an old broken one for pretty cheap, maybe even free.
It works just fine and plenty of farms pump into old freezers etc. It all comes down to cost. The trough is only a couple hundred dollars and can last years so it's the most popular. Whatever you choose make sure it can handle the steam.
Could one use a 55gal barrel laying sideways? I have a SS barrel, with gasket. I was going to put a 5500w heater on each end cap as shallow as I can and a ss float valve in the bottom end that keeps the water just over the heating elements. I was going to 4” galvanized duct and pipe into a water trough or a insulated room with steel panel walls for bulk pasteurization. The boiling area should be bigger with a sideways barrel as long as it doesn’t leak. A drain on the end cap with a 90deg pipe to siphon water when done. Then insulate barrel with r30 and aluminum face insulation and high temp insulation foam spray where the fitting are.
I simply dont have enough knowledge to determine whether or not that would help or hinder the process as a whole. This barrel was mildly modeled after Eric Myers 30 gallon steamer barrel which is a proven method. It seems over complicated to me, but could be cool for you to build out and document. I would reach out to Eric and see what input he may have.
Thanks for the thorough videos. I am just getting started and watching your videos helped a lot. Quick question would this sterilization technique work on oak pellet wheat bran substrate?
@@arthuregeoz5688 depends on strain but lamberts123 and king blue from mossy creek yield an average of 2.5lbs first flush. Sometimes a bit more. I currently only do one flush and done. The first flush is the only predictable and reliable one and when it comes to money I need my farm to be predictable.
Hey Joe What type of generator would you recommend if I was to go with two heating elements for the barrel steamer idea, if you got the time to reply if not I completely understand, once again thank you so much for your hard work support on sharing the videos on RU-vid 👍🏽
Please i hv a question I want to use the same idea to make steam curing for 4" concrete cubes in small chamber as a part of engineeting experiment , how can i keep temperature on 60 degress max. To avoid concrete samples damage ?
If you're referring to Jesse Campbell his set up is drastically different. This version is to pump steam into a container and involves 11kw and a float valve. This is the option for a large amount of blocks. Jesse Campbell's version known as the "ez-bake" has no float valve, operations on 120v and blocks are placed in the barrel itself and is great for smaller operations. Also this video is a full year older than the ez-bake video. If you're talking about another Jesse I'm not sure who you're mentioning.
Hey Joe, I just had a question. Are you experiencing plug burnout at all? I'm in Cali and it's pretty hot here but even if I run at night I've lost like three plugs and coils to fire. I was thinking about hardwiring because it seems like the plug is the issue. I've tried buying plugs ready-made and I've wired my own. They all eventually burn out it seems. Just wondering if you've had this problem at all?
Yes absolutely. I've had to replace plugs about 3 times in the past year. I have added an SOP to check the tightness of the connections every other run. I find the heating up and cooling down sometimes loosens the connections. I havent had an issue since, however, I'm sure its bound to happen again and I consider it a sunk cost. The plugs cost one pound of mushrooms so I'm not too worried about it and have a bunch of backups. Just make sure when youre steaming youre able to monitor.
@@cactushatmushrooms3677 can you explain what you mean by plug burnout? I am in georgia and worry I may start experiencing the same thing soon once I start running mine
I get plug burnout. Scary the first time, but you get used to it. About every 8 months it happens. I run a 5500w element on 240v for 30hrs twice a week.
If youre talking about at the barrel you can check the parts list in the description. Its two runs of 220v each to its own plug that plugs straight into the element. If youre talking about the panel, each plug has its own 45 amp breaker. I believe it was 8 gauge wire. Use an electrician.
@@cactushatmushrooms3677 If you change your mushrooms from regular mushrooms to magic mushrooms 🍄 I wouldn’t be surprised if you make joe rogan money 😂, since it’s becoming legal, chocolate factories 🏭 are requesting 500k bi weekly orders. Minimum.
