This was always one of the most heartbreaking parts of the OG and I loved seeing it fleshed out in Rebirth. The changes were pretty good. As we discussed... Extensively.... This part was really special so I wanted to talk about it. Barret is amazing. Yet another Shinra ruining their lives. Also damn I really wanna see the Dio and Rude fight.

@gamester512

@@someoneelse9680 Because he truly does know what it's like. What happened to Coral, and what happened to Barret & Dyne, isn't all that different from what happened to Nibelheim, and what happened to Cloud & Tifa due to Sephiroth & Jenova. In this moment, Cloud & Tifa are probably the only people who can truly understand Barret's pain and grief here.

Cloud and Barret's relationship has always been a foster father/son relationship though neither of them would admit it. Remake/Rebirth really developed on that. If Barret is on that Gold Saucer ride with Cloud, it really proves that with Barret basically telling Cloud that he wants him to be happy in that way a father would tell his son

I love that line as well. For me that line is what makes that part between Cloud and Barret "hit". Funny how the addition of such a small line can have such an impact. A huge part of that of course is the VA and as everyone has said the whole cast is amazing.
@sean8102
@sean8102 2 месяца назад
@@antonironstag5085 Yeah I watched a vid with all the GS dates and the "date" with Barret is great at showing that dynamic between them. They are all well done IMO. Yuffies is just cute, the way Cloud pretened reacts to Yuffies punches. And I love the one with Red, it's cute seeing him acting his age like puppy. But my fav part is at the end, when Red in his natural voice thanks Cloud for the talk and says "You're good company", and Cloud's reaction is to just smile, get down on one knee and pet Red.

Dyne's VA did a really good job too. Overall he had a small part in the overall story, so he had to be on point for the few lines that he got. And the direction was great. For that arc to be so effective in such a short amount of time speaks to the quality of the story.

He was always acting as the group's "rock of reliability", so that they could lean on him for support when they needed it, and yet here he's just lost a friend who was more like a brother to him than anything, and now all Barret has left is the team and Marlene.... All of his strength and a gun for an arm, and yet it was all worth nothing when it came to trying to save his best friend both from himself and Shinra. He tried so hard to get to Dyne....to save him from himself, but Dyne was already too far gone to save.... And neither Barret or Dyne deserved anything that had happened to them, but Shinra took everything from both of them. Both of them deserved far better. But at least Cloud is there to support Barret when he needs it most, to repay Barret for always being there for the rest of them when it counted most. Yet another reason for us to hate and want to take Shinra down.

Dyne put his body weight on Barret and told him to carry that weight of guilt
@gamester512
@gamester512 4 месяца назад
In a way, I think that was Dyne telling Barret to keep living, and to never let himself give in to the weight of all of that pain, guilt, and sadness, so that he can be there for Marlene in Dyne's stead whenever she needs it. Dyne was so twisted and bitter that he couldn't express it properly, but I'm sure that if Dyne hadn't since gone mad, hw likely would have thanked Barret for saving Marlene and caring for her in his place, as a sane Dyne likely would have understood that Barret thought he'd died, and that if Barret had even the slightest idea that he might have been alive, that Barret would have done everything in his power to find Dyne and bring him back to Marlene.

@gamester512
@gamester512 4 месяца назад
Aside from the rest of the team, at this point all Barret really had left in the world was Dyne and Marlene, and yet now even Dyne is gone. Shinra has just taken yet another thing he held dear from him. First Coral, then the Sector 7 Slums with the loss of Biggs, Wedge, & Jessie, and now he's even lost Dyne on top of it. It doesn't matter how strong or tough you are, _everyone_ has a breaking point. And Barret finally reached his breaking point here. It's little wonder why he hates Shinra so much. I only hope that when we finally get to give Scarlett her comeuppance, that we can make it _HURT_ her as much as possible. She's hurt and killed so many people just to satisfy her own sadism, that it's far past time for her to get what's coming to her. The same goes for Hojo and Heidegger.... The only arguably "decent" people in Shinra's "top brass" in my eyes would be Reeve, Rude, & Reno (and possibly Elena depending on how she's portrayed in the future)....and _MAYBE_ Rufus as well depending on how things go (considering the fact that he called out the Shinra Heads for not even trying to talk his father out of dropping the Sector 7 plate, which shows that Rufus does not share his father's callous and heartless disregard for the lives of innocents). Honestly, I kinda hope that they turn Rufus into a sort of Anti-Hero/Anti-Villain who is legitimately trying to change Shinra for the better (which Reeve would very likely back him up with), possibly even to the point that he eventually becomes an outright ally and possibly a party member later.
@will_sfv

they made it more sadder than the og one
@gamester512
@gamester512 4 месяца назад
Yep. And they also make you wish that there was a way to save him....or at least give him the chance to see Marlene in person one last time.... But at least this time, they turned Dyne's death into a moment of redemption for him, rather than him remaining a madman until his dying breath. In the original, his response to learning that Marlene was alive was to say that he wanted to *"Send her to Eleanor, since she must be lonely."* But here, he only wants Marlene to stay safe and be happy.

Yeah that's one of my few complaints about Rebirth. The pacing is just plain off in multiple parts. They will go right from a extremely emotional moment to gooft, or action. This scene is a perfect example IMO. We get the death of Dyne, Barret's VA blowing it out of the water, and the BOOM boss fight with goofy Palmer in his robot. Then back to emotional between Barret and Cloud, then a few seconds later action with the Turks showing up. They need to give these scenes just a bit of time to "breathe".

I really missed Barret's monologue about how his hands also are stained with blood, and how Dyne threatens to kill Marlene as well. And of course that he chooses to end it himself instead of being gunned down by grunts. They went for spectacle and in this instance I prefere how low-key the original scene was. Dyne used to be broken, but here he's anime ~~crazy~~ and it just doesn't hit as hard. I will admit seeing Rude and Dio was a lot of fun.

Agreed. I think in part it's purposeful as I think we'll get a much more emotional retelling including the *Spoliers* The water burial, and Cloud's lines will be seen (probably through Tifa's eyes) as her, and the rest of the crew are firmly rooted in reality, and in this timeline. Rebirth seems to be about seeing the party dynamics of a deteriorating Cloud, and from that asking: Is Cloud saveable? We're supposed to feel a little unnerved with Cloud right now, amd they leaned into that feeling of Cloud becoming more and more like a monster against our will. In that way I expect we will get an extremely faithful retelling of the OG emotional death to open part 3, which will then be followed by the party grieving, before exiting city of the Ancients, and exploring that whole northern region as we push north.
@Soulferno

@@malpercio123 Spoilers ahead The game very much implies that Cloud has it even worse by the end than in the og. He seemingly believes Aerith survived given that he never once gives direct acknowledgement that he can see her to the rest of the crew. Aside from Cloud still being influenced by Sephiroth since we still need the proper scene of giving the black materia to him, we skipped over the entire Aerith death scene, seeing only flashes of the original. Which means the inevitable Nibelheim truth regarding Zack will likely be in conjunction with Cloud having to face the reality of Aerith's death. Cloud already had it rough in the third part of the og but if what they're doing with what's implied in the new game, Cloud's life is gonna be an even worse hell than before
@xKayNee

That says more about this scene than the ending. Both are handled fine imo, as Cloud has yet to mentally understand the weight and impact of what he lost at the end due to his psyche.

Seeing the Corel scene again made me think that the reactor probably was actually sabotaged, and, like the mayor said, Shinra used it as an excuse. They didn't just swoop into town and start blasting. This is because the same thing happened in Gongaga, but they built a memorial. Why didn't they also destroy Gongaga? Because the Corel reactor really was sabotaged in some fashion, or there was an attempt at least. Barret should've had his arm shot off. As great as the storytelling is, there's a "Marvel/Disneyfication" of the violence that's only being alluded to, and never really seen. Barret held Cloud at gunpoint the entire first part of Remake, afraid he would betray them, but when Cait Sith actually betrays the group, Barret goes "would be a waste of bullets anyway." Uhhhhhh we grind for EXP in the Mythril Mine buddy. You "waste bullets" on birds.

Yeah the pacing in Rebirth is just plain bad in multiple spots. I think this one is a perfect example. The writers need to give these parts at least SOME time to "sink in". But like you said, we get the emotional (and amazingly well voice acted) part where Dyne dies and then BOOM wacky/goofy boss fight with Palmer in a robot. Then another emotional moment between Cloud and Barret and then BOOM action with the Turks and the chase etc.
@roaringviking5693

I think that the Dyne scene is a perfect example of Square having lost the ability to know how to balance and pace the plot. In the original they just fade away the scene after Dyne's death and start something new after that. Here you don't get the time to contemplate or anything because they almost immediatly put you in a boss fight against a comic relief character. It doesn't work for me. And why even was the Shinra grunts suddenly there? Just so that Dyne could commit suicide by Shinra? To me it was more impactful in the original were Dyne jumps off a cliff, but I'm guessing that they had to tone it down ad make it less obvious by letting Shinra do it instead. But that's on par with the rest of the game, I feel. The majority of the story they haven't changed are still so damn good, but most of the new stuff is either weird or unnecessary or, worst of all, ruins the themes and lessens the impact of certain events and character moments from the original game.
@sean8102
@sean8102 2 месяца назад
Yes! That's my biggest (and really my only big complaint) about Rebirth. The pacing. It is just so off in multiple parts it gives you whiplash. They def need to improve how they pace things and give emotional moments like when Dyne dies SOME time for you to "process" etc. But instead, it's the emotional part with Barret (and his VA killing it), and BAM goofy/wacky boss fight with Palmer in his big robot.

And you wish it was as deep and emotional as romeo and juliet dying lol. Aint ever gunna happen but stay mad I guess. I'm not gonna lie, I love everything they did with Dyne in this game, but here's the thing: Barret not being able to lift Dyne made sense in the original game when there wasn't as much context. But in Remake, Barret literally THREW President Shinra over his head with his non-dominant arm. You can't show me him doing that and then expect me to believe he struggled with something objectively less difficult using his GOOD arm. It bugs me so much lol. Aerith lowering ladders for Cloud in Remake in the sector 6 tunnel was the same thing for me. Like, bro, the man had a 15ft vertical BEFORE being Mako/Jenova infused in Crisis core.
