The kit is not for sale and the ride sold as I was putting the video together but the hats are up on Reverb. This drum set has a really cool story so we wanted to show it to you. It is beautiful now after we had it re-wrapped and will remain here as a tribute to Barrett. He was an amazing drummer with an extensive career, make sure to click on the link!

I also remember the fact that I got to see, inspect, chat, and even sit down and play your Slingy Buddy Rich Set. You had a Dualist Pedal on it at the time. And your lovely Gladstones, man! ;-)

Man I loved it when Barrett Deems would do the crab walk! Wish I'd gotten to see him in real life.

He was an awesome drummer live. I saw him a couple of times at a Club called Andys on Hubbard Street in Chicago. 🥁❤

I've always liked and enjoyed your playing style Steve. I've remembered the memory, and fact that you were by my side when I bought one of Barrett's Slingerland Kits at the Vintage Drum Show at the Pheasant Run in 2000. Still have it of course, as well as the Mint Buddy Rich 5x14 Slingerland TDR Drum you sold me a year later. Had Pearl Snare Wires on it, but I got it all back bone stock original with NOS Snare Wires. How does it sound? Superb, and Slingerland intended it to sound. Hope you are well my friend, Mark D.

CooL! - Great restoration + Fab playing (listened twice so far) plus excellent recording quality. -hey you could add a wood chair next time.... That one video of Deems with the Sachmo All-Stars sure had an amazing trumpet section !

Wow, I'd heard of Barrett Deems but hadn't heard him play before so thanks for doing this tribute. Seeing the wooden chair solo reminded me of Buddy's performance on the Muppet Show. In fact, his fast clean hands, vocabulary on the instrument and the way he hits the cymbals looks a lot like what Buddy was famous for doing. Do you know if this is because they were both products of the same era, or did Barrett influence Buddy or Buddy influence Barrett? I'm guessing both but wondering if you have any insight. Thanks again Steve your videos and passion for vintage drums are greatly appreciated.

Barrette Deems started playing professionally in 1920 when Buddy Rich was three years old. So I think it's pretty safe to say that Buddy was probably influenced a little by Barrett. 🥁❤

@@johnrobinson8323 Yeah you can definitely see and hear the lineage and was surprised by the degree to which he might have influenced Buddy. Btw, if you are the studio legend John Robinson, and I hope you are, your sense of time and strong pocket is THE gold standard. You have so many hits with really great drum parts but my favorite is that Rufus/Chaka Kahn live album. So good!

Sorry Syverdude I'm just a legend in my own mind. I've played on tons of demo tapes, cds ect. Tapes 🤣 that's how old I am but I'm not the studio legend JR Robinson. I do love playing drums though. And I have seen some great drummers over the years and Barrett Deems was one of them! Keep on drumming! 🥁❤
