Barriss made some mistakes. She betrayed her best friend. She killed innocent people to prove a point. She killed to survive. But I think what this episode highlighted is that Barriss is not a bad person despite that. The Empire wants to rule through fear, but it wasn't fear or terror that got Barriss and the Fourth Sister to find the Jedi here. It was Barriss being compassionate, realizing that the townspeople were scared of her and taking off her helmet. Asking where the Jedi was, not demanding. Yeah, Barriss didn't like the Jedi Council. They were blind and they paid the price for it in the end. But not liking who's in charge and not liking the rules are two very different things. In the end, Barriss still believes in what the Jedi stood for, or at least claimed to. "We're keepers of the peace, not warriors. And once the war is over it will be our job to maintain the peace." -Barriss Offee

To all the people who say that Barris being redeemed makes no sense because she bombed the Jedi Temple and killed innocents, I like to remind you that Anakin lead Order 66, killed younglings, his wife, master and took part in hundreds of massacres for 20 years. But I don’t see anyone complaining about him being redeemed

Ironic Bariss returns to a Jedi after she sees the dark side is not the way.
@Mr-Sinister
@Mr-Sinister 14 дней назад
She returns to the real Jedi way. Pacifist way, peacemaking way, healing way. That is the way of the Jedi. Not the one where Jedi are generals and leading their armies to the endless wars. She was still right about the Jedi that they only used violence and should not have been involved in the Clone Wars. Eventually she proved herself right - the Jedi lost their way, and she found it again by choosing the path of non-violence.
@maksymilianziele28

@@Mr-Sinister If Jedi were not involved in CW, Dooku and his droids would defeat the Republic too quickly, maybe even destroy it. Jedi not fighting in CW would make sense if Dooku was still a righteous idealist they remembered him once, who just wanted a better future for those sick of the Republic's corruption. But Sith Dooku was a cruel sociopath who laughed evilly, used assassins for dirty work, worked with despicable businessmen like Wat Tambor, employed monsters like General Grievous, Riff Tamson or Zygerrian Slavers, and wanted not a solution for his followers in fact, but a war to create a new empire from what's left of BOTH Republic and CIS. Even Clone Troopers pointed out that without Jedi Leadership, the Republic would lose the war.
@Mr-Sinister
@Mr-Sinister 14 дней назад
@@maksymilianziele28 Without the Jedi Republic would lose the war - EXACTLY. The conflict would be resolved much quicker. What does it matter to the Jedi anyway, being neutral their only role would be ambassadors. Try to solve peacefully, not on the battlefield. The rest is not their problem. They should be like monks. They need to only defend the Jedi Order, Force-sensitive children and not be involved in warfare. Separatist worlds are not that bad, by the way, otherwise there wouldn't be people like Mina Bonteri who believed in their CIS democracy as well, and their people lived fine under Separatists (it would be the same under Republic, but this isn't Black and White). The Jedi Order could live outside the Republic in a neutral system somewhere, if the Republic chose to use them as weapon and they refused.
@maksymilianziele28
@maksymilianziele28 14 дней назад
@@Mr-Sinister It wouldn't matter to Dooku and Sidious (people not persuaded by nice talk), one way or another, Jedi had to be dealt with in Sith's design (so as annoying to them people like Bonteri), with them as either soldiers or ambassadors or living peacefully in some neutral system. And all peaceful resolutions would be just dealt with like a case between Mina and Padme or even if not, it is just because on the long run it would help Sith's cause. Sorry, but like I said Dooku too much embraced evil (he even ordered a genocide on innocents not because of some war significance, but simply because Jedi were watching it) and had too much power in CIS (which in truth was tyrannical, something of which Separatist Senators were completely unaware of) just to let it all end peacefully. And I wouldn't consider him winning the war with the Republic, even if the war ended sooner, a sufferable solution, because making a victor out of someone who blames others for him killing innocents even if there was really no point in it other than satisfaction that his enemies are watching it, does not sound like a tolerable solution. So whatever path Jedi would take during the war, they were screwed from the start and them not fighting would just make them an easier target to be killed once CIS would be victorious and Republic defeated.
@Mr-Sinister
@Mr-Sinister 13 дней назад
@@maksymilianziele28 Not really. If the Jedi weren't involved into the war, they could focus on their own Order, and more prepared for the Sith, but since they were involved in politics, they were manipulated into becoming war instruments, and there was no time for them to think, meditate, the Dark Side of the Force already clouded their vision. They would be free of that if only they were out of conflict, some place else. They could even see the Sith in their visions, given enough focus and time. But since they were part of politics, that was their weakness which Palpatine used to manipulate them into what he prepared for them. The thing is - they already shakened balance of the Force by choosing to intervene. It was their test they didn't pass, so the Force was rebalanced once again.

Barriss never was Inquisitor material. The Empire represented exactly what she was worried the war would do to the Republic and the Jedi. The Inquisition assumed that she wouldn't need any extra conditioning because she _totally_ has a grudge against the Jedi and would be happy to take it out on some poor schmuck, right? No. She joined the Inquisition because they didn't give her a choice. It was always a mere survival strategy for her, and her problems with the Jedi extended to the direction the Order was taking, not the people themselves. I suspect that they introduced the brutal regimen of torture and reconditioning precisely because of Barriss going rogue at the first opportunity.

Barriss may of left the Jedi after seeing their failings, she still has a heart to help other people from threats like the empire she briefly served. She ain’t power hungry like Krell or Malicos, completely broken like trilla or Masana, misguided like Bode, brutal as the fifth brother or as disillusioned as Dagan or Dibs. IMO they should've stretched it out over another episode or two. Vader legit doesn't care about inquisitors. In fact, he has been shown hating them quite recurrently. He considers them an obstacle. The exception, of course, being the Grand Inquisitor who was able to stand his ground against Vader. For the dark lord, they are no better than clowns (and he's right, so far the only competent inquisitors we have seen are GI and the Second Sister) and he does not consider them a threat. Even killing an inquisitor does not make him target you (See Cal, who killed the Ninth Sister and Vader did not go after him immeditaly, instead focusing on Cere as she was getting a little bit too strong despite not having killed any inquisitor). So Barris would have been considered just a minor nuisance for Vader.

Cool as her redemption is, it feels really incomplete. She’s never held accountable for all the genuinely evil things she did. She committed an act of terrorism, murdered a woman to cover her act, and then tried to frame it all on her friend who would’ve been executed were Barriss not caught. Without that exploration into who Barriss is and how she has confronted her past actions, her new future doesn’t feel earned. It feels like any morally gray person could have been slotted into these three episodes and nothing would change.

Another character added to the list of surviving lightsaber stabs 3. She convinced the 4th sister to leave the empire behind in like 2 minutes? Wasn’t she the one who killed the people in the village? 4. If she was to be redeemed is should have been from someone important to her like Ashoka 5. Vader had no interaction with Barris, he does beat up the inquisitors in their training so that would have been a great opportunity to show some of his anger.

it seems like the dark side doesn't corrupt people anymore, which makes the whole story more hillarious. I mean i can bend my suspension of disbelieve about some antiwar jedi bombing the jedi temple and framing her best friend, if she got corrupted by the dark side, but if that corruption can be easily dealt with, the question arises, why she would do something so dumb and out of character? it just doesn't make sense anymore. Why did Count Doku kill his friend Syfu Dias, wasn't Syfu able to talk him out of it, because it seems super easy to do it, when even some randos can get it done? Also withstanding the seduction of the dark side seems pretty easy, no real effort required to do that, this makes all the people who did fall, rather pathetic than tragic. i mean damn Anakin, sure you got visions about your wife dying, but becoming a sith lord, slaughtering younglings, seems a bit like you didn't care in the first place. Kinda destroys the whole point of the dark side, maybe the darkside isn't really the problem, maybe all those people were assholes to begin with?

@artloverivy well in this episode. They used the words "Are" and "there". Also as stated in the episode, Barris wasn't even able to confirm there was a jedi on the planet based on the severly limited intelligence. Also Jedi weren't non-binary, it wasn't until the clone wars did they take massive steps into republic politics. If you look at all the character encyclopedia books. Very few characters in the star wars universe even come close to non binary (not counting droids). The Acoloyte series actually might be the first series in star wars to introduce a formal non-binary character.

Even plo koon believed ashoka was culprit yet he was the one who picked up ashoka. Anakin was the only one. The Jedi were the Sith in disguise at that point.

Man, the logic of the Inquisitors makes less and less sense as we see them In some media they state to simply slay the Jedi, yet in Rebels they merely try and capture any Jedi, they simply serve as Vader's bodyguards and most sometimes even try to recruit a survivor to their cause, So how come Lyn didn't see the potential of recruiting this boy to their cause too Anyone else like to think that she and that male Jedi hooked up
@FrozenJedi38
@FrozenJedi38 6 дней назад
I think it depends on what their orders are. In Rebels, they kinda tried to kill Ezra and Kanan, as well as do stuff like get info for the Empire and find Force sensitive kids. Then in like Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor, they were more or less there to kill Cal + any other Jedi. So it seems like their job is mainly to kill/find Jedi, but also does stuff like finding Force sensitive children (which itd easier to indoctrinate kids than full grown Jedi on the run tbh).

Honestly.. only Bariss noticed from all ex Jedi Inquisitors that slaughtering innocent, killing each other, wearing black robes and using red lightsabers is not exactly spreading peace and order? And rest did 180° because dark side I guess? And it shows that empire could be much better as a concept if it wasn't ruled by Sith. Imagine all Inquisitors would be like Bariss. Inquisitors act due to their fear. That makes them quite desperate, and most are able to do horrible things out of desperation. Because if they fail, Vader will torture them. Because if they prove their use came to an end, they also see their lives end. They are cornered, and even the Grand Inquisitor was trapped in this cage, shown when he decided to commit suicide instead of allowing Kanan to save him because he knew the consequences would be worse than death. Imagine being tied to this system in which you have to kill, destroy, burn and all in order to stay alive.

I'm getting a little sick of dark side characters getting redemption arcs, it's way too over played at this point.
