Barry's right. Everybody knew he was gay 45 years ago. We just didn't give a crap. A great entertainer is a great entertainer. And his music made so many happy.
If everybody knew anyway, why did he always play the straight guy on stage with the girls and why did he lie to a Canadian journalist about 10 or so years ago, if he was gay, and he said no?! Yes, he is a fantastic guy and great entertainer and musician, but I just hate the lies...His book from 1987 and his CD "Manilow talks" from 1998...all lies?!
@@jacquelineleubin5004 45 years ago it was not that easy to come out. He was definitely not the only one who feared the consequences of coming out. "Philadelphia" (If you haven't watched it I suggest you do) is a great movie and shows how people reacted to gays back then. Ok. Tom Hanks's character gets HIV and dies from AIDS. But the movie shows how prejudice comes way before the disease. Anyway, it was and is our dear Barry's choice to let us in or not. As he says, he's a very private person. Many public figures, actors, singers, hosts, whoever have a persona when dealing with audiences, fans and journalists.

We never got to hear the album of new material he was working on as he stated in this interview. I was one who was dying to hear it as those have always been my favorite albums.
My business was cleaned out. This resonates more than you know. I’m fighting back for over 8 years….spent my life savings to defend myself and my company. Finally a jury trial end of August 2023. Prayers needed for strength to fight.

No Barry, you don't have to "lower the key" ... instead you just talk through lazy renditions of your songs and/or encourage the countless annoying "singalongs" with the audience. What you've done to some of your masterpieces is positively blasphemous!
Where on earth did you ever hear that? Barry Manilow NEVER talks about religion. If you are referring to the fact that he's Jewish, and you are disparaging him for it, that's anti-semitic. He doesn't have to believe as you do.
We were saddened and shocked when Barry came out as homosexual. Never suspected that he was homosexual as he was the crooner who melt the ladies hearts.
Even sadder to learn that he had started out on the right foot, marrying his highschool sweetheart; and, instead of allowing God's gift of marriage to strengthen him in his role as a man, he was lured into a lifestyle of debauchery.
Please, he is still the same crooner. His sexuality has nothing to do with it. People like you, waiving with the God card, make that he probably thought he had to hide who he really was.
