Barry Manilow - "Two on 2" 1974 Mini-Documentary 

I'm 15 years old all over again listening to this video clip. It brought back a lot of memories and how I felt about life then. Barry Manilow was a big part of my life through his music, then and now, ( no pun intended),. Mandy will always be my song and our song (my husband and I, and my boyfriend back in 1974). Some people liked Barry and some didn't but it never mattered what the haters said, just like it doesn't now. But compared to the music produced today, Barry Manilow was pure genius and he still is. Thanks for the memories Barry!

I really love seeing the very-early days. The beginning. It's my hope that when a movie-bipoic is made about Barry we get to see a lot of that!

You could see the tiredness in his face when he was off the set, but when he was on stage…he’d light up like a firecracker…that’s the determination and love he had for his fans. I’m 54 yrs old and there were 3 things I remember about Barry…his remarkable vocals, his good looks, and the fact he made hit after hit. Thank you for this classic clip!🥰

Real singing

Barry I learned singing all your songs from the early days.

It is really nice to see these early shows. Barry certainly got that lasting career that he was seeking back then. It's been a pleasure to have his songs around when I've wanted & needed them in my life.

Barry Manilow is the consumate performer, composer, lyricist, arranger, showman, all rolled into one. I've always had a great deal of respect for this man and have loved his music since I was a child.

I was 9 in 1974. Now I'm a granny. Loved Barry back then... STILL love him now. 💕

The energy and honesty of those early shows was just awesome. Before he got polished, when he still seemed like a gawky kid from Brooklyn, he'd sing right into your heart.

I was part of the promotion team in late 1974 working on Mandy at Bell Arista. I was working at Atlantic Records with Bette and Barry. My friend just moved to Bell to work with Barry and sent me his records. I knew Barry had hits and I had worked in radio commercials for an ad agency. Everyone knew Barry's voice. My colleagues told me I was crazy leaving Atlantic but I kept telling them he had hits. The rest is history. Chatty Kathy Henke. Love you Barry.

Barry Manilow was a very handsome young man back in those days and today he still is very handsome very talented I can't speak for the world but I know what he gives to me when I hear him sing gives me great fond memories of someone who is not here with me anymore my sister she passed away in 2003 of cancer the last thing she heard before she went to meet God in heaven she heard Barry Manilow singing of course it was on the tape cassette back in those days but all I remember is her smiling at me and saying thank you very for the times that I saw you in concert and now I get to hear you one last time I wish I could reach out to him and know that my letters or phone call or whatever will reach him so I can thank him personally of all the dreams that he kept alive for her and for all the wonderful things and memories that his songs were to her so for now this will have to do thank you very mental though from the bottom of my heart for being there in spirit and song and in person for her many many thanks

Back to the era when he didn’t even have room to dance during the Bandstand drum solo! That’s before my time. (But not by much!) How many number one acts could hold a room with just the music today? Audiences are so used to all the light shows and effects that I don’t know if many popular artists could keep the audience involved without them these days. If anyone could it would be Barry!

I was so desperately in love with Barry …

This is a joy to watch and reminded me of why I spent 6 1/2 years trying to get one minute in his presence. To this day, I remember his reaction when I told him he personified qualities I would never possess. “Nah!” was his reaction. He didn’t know me. But he was correct. What a great person and artist. ❤️

God I love this documentary. The people connect with Barry because he sings about relationships and life and things people go through day after day. He knows how to make it and handle things because when he played with Bette Midler as her musical director he was already in show business. Mandy made him number #1 and was a smash. There was never anyone like him. Glad he is still doing it today. Thanks for the post here.

Amazingly talented, intelligent, and humble man. Icon. And here, he's talking about hoping he and his crew will be able to leave the Holiday Inn and stay in a Sheraton in the "next round" of their tour. Sure glad he found the great success he deserved. Oh, one more incredible thing he said then - already he was saying he'd been in show business for awhile, "dealt with William Morris Agents." Priceless.

I recognized the voice, but didn’t recognize the face of a very young Bill Kurtis.

I love this documentary. Only one complaint. The one scene where he is at his dressing table he needed to comb his hair but I love you anyway and always will. One other comment-being number 1 is a big deal but I guess he meant that most that are number 1 do not know how to handle things. But Barry did because he was already in show business being Bette Midlers musical director.
