Cinemassacre hello mike, and james,i am your big fan from russia, can you please in youre next videos send a hi to all russian fans, and specially to the avgn pablik in vkontakte, thx mike, james
These are seriously some of the best playthrough's I've ever seen. I usually don't' like let's plays, or streams. Mostly because the commentating is usually annoying or boring. But Mike does a perfect job balancing being entertaining and informative. I like that he actually explains things about the game, and goes into depth about the games mechanics, as well has his own strategies. I really hope these are doing well in views, because I want this series to continue on Cinemassacre. They are so good.
How in the world can you even hook up an NES to an HD tv? We have this old NES thing with some adapter and controller, but it's like impossible to find decent information on how to play this.
One thing about stage 1 with calling Moe, when he come out to chase you, he is wearing a purple apron. You can hit him with the spray can and get credit for a purple item.
+Cinemassacre Its been a while Mike, but here is what I remember secret and tip wise for Bart vs. the Space Mutants. If you are outside the movie theater when your timer is at 400 and/or 200 a purple boy scout will come out for you to spray paint. Calling Moe is worth it to summon a guy in a purple shirt to spray paint. The whistle calls Grandpa Simpson if used at the last window of the retirement home, who will shower you with coins. Collecting coins is worth it at all cost (aside from buying stuff on stage 1 and playing the the carnival games for extra lives on stage 3 the coins in of themselves will give you extra lives for every 15 or so you collect). Collecting extra lives (I'm pretty certain) is also worth it even if your counter shows 9 (I believe the game gives you credit for lives beyond 9, the counter just doesn't show them. The counter will also stay at 9 lives if you lose a life when you are over 9 lives. If you have the key item you can quick warp between the retirement home door and the movie theater door. When you hit the E in the Kwik E Mart sign for the extra life you also unlock the sound test. The magnet item from stage 1 will guarantee a 100% win every time on the spinning wheel carnival game if you use the item before you play the game. A lot of the trash cans have items in them (coins, hats, Jebadiah heads, Krusty heads) in the mall stage. Catch is you have to jump on them multiple times. And don't stop jumping even after one item comes out (there are multiple items per can and it takes multiple jumps in between each item coming out of the trash can). One trash can so loaded that it 'll even spit out a second round of coins after a Krusty head (oddly these coins don't look like coins, they look like weird crosses and have initials on them like "JW" etc.). One of the trash cans in the mall (if you press down on it for a few seconds) will warp you to a hidden room with a bunch of hats. If you stand in place and jump up and down on the first candy bar platform in the mall multiple times it will eventually move and carry you over the lollypops. There is Jebadiah head hidden at the magic wand platform section (between the forth and fifth wand) of the mall (catch if you have to jump between the platforms when they are at their highest point to activate it). The balloons popped in the balloon pop carnival game count toward your goal. If you solve the door mini game at the carnival a bunch of balloons appear. In addition to the extra life, you can enter the giant carnival Krusty head's mouth (press up while jumping to enter) for some extra coins. The window of the final tent of the carnival stage activates a quick warp to the windows of the other tents (if you press down while standing on it). This lets you search for more balloons if you haven't met your goal yet. Once you meet your goal the other tent windows will now be able to warp you back to the end of the stage. The items in the museum glass cases work exactly like the trash cans from the mall stage. Stand in place on top of the item and jump up and down multiple times to make the item pop out (its the number of times you jump that counts, not the duration of time you stand on the case). The symbols in the Egyptian section were indeed Ankhs (the Egyptian symbol for eternal life). The platforming with the waterfall and tar pit sections of the dinosaur section are indeed tricky, but you did make them slightly harder for yourself. Around the edges of the water fall chasm and the tar pits there are invisible "background" platforms (like with the T-Rex fight) that makes the jumps not come from an awkward angle). Final tip, remembering the door codes in the final stage (while helpful) isn't 100% needed. They can easily be brute forced through in a negligible amount of wasted time (just rapidly tap the enter code button while holding up or down on the d-pad to cycle the numbers).
"the controls in the game can be a little bit weird, a little bit wonky" - try the controls in the game are fucking shit. Ive been playing this game for 30 years, Ive never got past the second stage... I might try it again after watching this maybe
I was born in 83 and let me tell you, NES games can be mindnumbinly difficult unlike games today. Now its 630 I need to take off my dentures and watch Matlock.
Cinemassacre If you have the game, Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike for GameCube and type these codes in Star Wars Arcade: RTJPFC!G / TIMEWARP Empire Strikes Back Arcade Game: !H!F?HXS / KOOLSTUF Return Of The Jedi Arcade Game: !?ATH!RD / GAME?YES
I think the platforming is kinda okey, but why most people don´t like this game is cause of the controls. Making the jump button also the run button sucks, many played super Mario before this and where so used to hold the B button to run and A to jump. Here you make those big jumps by pressing both buttons A and B at the same time. Other than that i think it´s a good game and by far the best Simpson game for the NES, the others that followed sucked ass....
The reason I dislike this game is because it's unclear what you can and can't jump on during a lot of the game. Like on top of windows including the window in the doors? Like what?
28:09 Mike's platforming is either incredible, lucky or both, and he just takes it for granted like business as usual, but it's a miracle he does not fall into the water or even get hit by the spider.
I imagine the deal with spelling out Bart's family members' names is that Bart is getting enough evidence to convince them to help him fight against the Space Mutants. Hence why in the last level, they all help him out.
Great playthrough! Always fun to watch you and James play. One thing i noticed is the audio is quite out of sync at the end. Were you shooting with a logitech webcam by chance? I discovered a glitch with mine where the audio goes out of sync over time. A quick fix for this is if you rename the file to be .mov and install a codec for whatever video editor you're using (premiere in my case) it will be back in sync. Anyways hopefully that helps!
As someone who never got past the second level, it's pretty disappointing to learn that the later stages just recycle the music from levels 1 and 2 (one of them being the title theme, no less). Lazy sound design is lazy.
Omg that is awesome! I can never get past level 3 on this game. I also reAlly love these Mike lets play videos! If James ain't gonna do anymore Nerd videos then these will me just fine.
This game was released a few weeks before my ninth birthday. This takes me back to 91. Such a great time, such a great game even if the controls did suck lmao.
Oh bless your heart Mike, you are truly a glutton for punishment. ;) Always thought this game was semi-broken as a kid, but not broken enough for Mighty Mike! :)
Is there a walkthrough for this game in Nintendo Power? Because I can't imagine myself getting as far as I did when I was little. BTW, the "Mop Top Shop" is a Beatles' reference. So, the "Really Big Shoe" makes sense, since the Beatles made their American debut on Ed Sullivan.
There is something different with Mike's playthroughs now - they have a cinema quality to them now.... I know, Mike has gone HD with spectacular lighting, better camera angles and maybe even a make up artist! Good job!

This fucking game! Just thinking about the damn thing gives me twitches..
Nintendo games didn't cut anyone a break. Take this game for example. The main target audience was teenagers and down. How did they expect any of them to beat it?! I had a grudge with Bartman Meets Radioactive Man. I could get to the last level, but I ended up shooting the game up with a bb gun instead, and threw my Nintendo off a cliff. That game was the last Nintendo straw for me.
Hey Mike. Would you please take a look at Lethal Weapon on Amiga? Great graphics, excellent music and unusually hard. Your European audience is counting on you.
18:35 - the magnet you can buy in stage 1 is used for this mini game. When the wheel stops, you hold the B button to draw it towards the number you picked. I like that little nod to Bart's mischievous nature.
I used to play this game all the time as a kid... never even got as far as the Shoe boss at the mall. Rrrrrreally big shoe! Rrrreeealy big! They couldn't have made a better soundtrack though eh? What the shit?
Wait, so maggie was the last rod??? Wtf?? Now Im pissed that I couldnt finish all those years ago over the last rod. I probably walk past her a million times!
You and James should autograph the Map you made and do a contest of sort and mail it to the winner. Easy fun little stuff like that would be awesome here and there. Happy New Year, Mike.
Stopped watching after the fifth season. Don't worry, quality declined pretty quickly after what was known as the Weinstein/Oakley era. That was around the eighth season.
even if we get a few angry video game nerd review videos i enjoy the content that you guys do and when James do make a AVGN review it is always special and hogh quality,
Owned this game as a kid. It is indeed very hard. I think I managed to make it to the museum level once or twice, but then had my ass handed to me pretty quickly.
Mike, great video. I still have the signed NES you, James, and Kyle signed for me at CHILLER THATRE OCTOBER 2013. you drew Shit Pickle on it for me. you rock!!!
Mike, how about Little Nemo The Dream Master??? Amazing game. I always got my ass kicked as a kid in the final stage when they changed the whole mechanic up. Great Capcom classic, though.
mike you make this game look so easy when i know full well that it is one of the hardest NES games i played i had it the day it was released and i still have not ever completed it but know watching you play this has inspired to grab my cart give it a good blow out and wack it into my NES and try again
also mike, you can have more than nine lives, even though the game only shows nine at max, the game is still keeping record of all the additional lives you're collecting!!
Bart vs the World was somewhat fun and Bartman vs Radioactive Man was a pain in the ass to maneuver through but this game looks unforgiving. You're not allowed to kill most of the enemies, some of the goals are almost impossible to get and the jump physics are beyond broken. I'm sticking to Simpsons Hit & Run. :P
