In this video I put together a basemap for the Mk5, to take in to account for all of the hardware changes that ive made to the car.
This is a good idea so that the ECU is happy, and the data is correct - in order to monitor it all and check with logging.

Pretty simple tuning solution for sure! Gotta love being able to make the most gains out of all your parts you just bolted on. That interface is really user friendly and relatively easy to use, especially compared to some standalone EMS. Using the S3 stuff is a no-brainer too. It's pretty much the most cost effective/ guaranteed way to upgrade the stock longblock. An 'OEM bolt-on update' if you will. OEM+++ 😆 Good job deleting the variable runner flaps. People can argue a possible loss of torque by eliminating the flaps all day long, but it's so negligible if anything I wouldn't worry about it. It's idling smooth and the throttle response is right on, and that's just a base map with no tweaking. I don't know if you've seen the Integrated Engineering manifold, but it's a worthwhile upgrade, along with a throttle body as well since you can tune for it. The BBS CH look sweet on there too! Always liked the CH's cuz I 💙 BBS in general,! 🙂 This is definitely a great start to a tasteful build! Thanks for sharing this, can't wait to see that spinny boiiii get leaned on a little bit! 😁👍👍💪

Cheers mam, appreciate the comments 👍. Not trying to redesign the world or go wild with this build. Just a nice hopefully 350bhp daily driver 🤙. Love the Mk5 chassis, look and feel and build these for people all the time so cool to do one for myself 🤣

man I've tried opening winols demo once and going through my quite bad me7.5 20vt map to see what the tuner did, couldn't find a definition file or whats it called for that specific part number ecu, so I then tried looking for the maps in another me7.5 file from a passat that had the definitons, and mapping it over bit by bit. Probably gave up after 5% and never tried doing anything related to ecu tuning again. I'm a software developer but this kind of work is just on a different level to my brain.

its a lot harder than you think to fine tune it and then there is a large paywall. the winols license alone is over 1k including the plugins then map reading tools e.g. autotuner are usually around 3.5-5k+ depending on options and brand

Looks easy if u know what to change, and how and where... ive been into WinOls but its not that easy tho. Oh and u need to check the file or the ecu gets bricked and so on. I have a 'guy' for it, changing my files. Nice update vid cheers.

so nick regarding the runner flap delete, if i was to install the kit and not have it mapped in, im assuming the only "issue" that would occur is the cold start would be a bit lumpy and thats it? no damage will occur.

Yes pal, no damage will occur. You will have a few fault codes stored for it but they won't do anything. Cold start routine will be affected, mostly noticeable by a rough hunting idle until the cat heating routine is complete.

Oddly the OEM S3 8P injectors are more expensive that RS4 B7 injectors. Do you suggest going with S3 or RS4?

Really enjoyed that after not having any experience with the mk5's.. everything is all within relevance. I think I'll run 4bar FPR+ Map sensor with my hybrid turbo.. leaving lots of room for mapping :) Regarding the 1.8t style fuel pressure system, do do always have to change the maps when adding a 4bar fuel pressure regulator or will they adapt enough within tolerance ...haven't tried logging anything yet but I'm sure you have that experience ;)

A 4bar fpr will increase fuelling by approximately 15%. It can be adapted out but best to not gamble incase of bore wash so I'd keep the 3bar in until mapping so fuelling can be callibrated. 1.8t MAP sensors can't be changed, so your stuck with the 2550mbar sensor on that ECU. 👍

@@DecimalTenths completely makes sense on the fuelling and I thought would be the case.. However I have the 225 Bam k04 setup and as far as the part code goes as it's the later map sensor it's 3bar. But can be replaced by an identical & same plug 4bar map sensor. Both made by Bosch both the later type for the 2005

@@DecimalTenths I mean even if the 4bar won't calibrate with the ME7.5. 1.8/1.9 bar is enough for a hybrid anyway as with the right setup that should be more than enough.. without overheating the intakes :)

@@TTAutowerks94 Unless there is custom code, a bigger scaled MAP sensor can not be added to an ME7.5 ecu. All 1.8t MAP sensors are 2550mbar. No 3000mbar are compatible. On an 1.8t we have to tune boost open loop above this sensor range and accept that we don't see the boost in the logs. TFSI is better as you can scale a bigger sensor in, as per the video

@@DecimalTenths that's mad, because I do see more than 1.5bar positive pressure on my 1.8t. The code that's on my sensor comes up with a 3bar aswell 🤷 My boost can be read all day everyday at 26, 27, 28psi then tapers down to 20-22psi which is 1.5bar, it wouldn't even read that if it was 2.5bar sensor as you have explained yourself in this video.. the sensor data will literally stop and flatline at 2550mbar. But mine doesn't do that.. it reads data up to 26-28psi (1.8-1.9bar) (load dependant)

what about the 5mm hole you drilled on the fuel pump i have done the same and my mapped is saying at idle the car is running rich but ive not told him ive drilled the 5mm larger hole ... whole it course this issue ?

You could categorise most it as 'mis information' at best 😂👎 Always look forward to your videos mate, I was strictly KR, 9A and ABF before I found your channel during lock down, loved the Frog🐸🔥!! To be honest, when VAG introduced 1.8t's they where over my head and out of my budget back then, then years went by and I sold off 95% of my 80's 90's cars and parts and bought a TDI estate 🥱😴 haha, but through your channel, the falling price of 1.8t's and COVID I've found a whole new world!! I had a mk2 Scirocco shell already which was in 100% in barn find condition so nothing to lose, so I got back in workshop and, in all honesty, it's been the only thing to pull me through the last couple of years if you know what I mean, so once again, nice one for being one of the main influences to give me the confidence to get into it again, god knows what I'd be doing otherwise 😉👍

is it possible to make a gti throttle more lineair on decelleration. i was stopt by police en my exhaust was toe loud en was not allowed to drive my car i had to fix it en get a new mot on it now is my problem my db was to high when je let of the gas at 4.5k rpm the volume peakt now if you let of the gas slow it was good so is it possible by mapping the throlle to get a slower decelleration

Problem with a slower throttle on decel is that even when lifting off, the car will want to continue to drive on by itself. It will be awful to have to brake to slow down when normally lifting the throttle will do. Surely the answer is to change the exhaust.?

I havnt...😉. Just a simple road log to make sure it's all good. Not worth strapping it down to do that kinda thing mate. The tuning will be done on the rollers for sure 👍

The Ed30 is similar to the S3, but they carry different software versions so couldn't be cross flashed. In terms of tuning, the principle would be the same.

Hi, my mk5 has Unitronic stage 2 tune, I installed the flap delete kit but the car started acting a bit weird..sometimes it stalls especially on sudden breaking after acceleration from a stand still. Is there anything I can do to fix that other than reinstalling the flaps back?

Sounds more like an air leak. I would smoke leak test this to check 👍

Ignitron is a plug and play 1.8t ecu, and doesn't support direct Injection which the TFSI runs 😁

ignitron wont work with this... this car is med9 you could tell straight away when he said about a 140/200bar fuel pressure sensor. the 1.8t your thinking of comes with a 3bar from factory and has the injectors in the intake manifold this engine is direct injection and not compatible with ignitron from the map id you can tell this is an med9.1 ecu ignitron is designed for the older me7.5 ecu's
