I just had one of my oldest memories kick start. 4 years old in 1971 the first 2 days and nights after dad brought our families first BasenjI puppy home, he certainly didn't have the volume but the wailing was just like that, no one slept. precious memories
"why is this neighborhood so dead". "It's because of the basenji's". "The dog? You make it sound like a ghost?" Bha-bha-RHOOOOOOOOOOO "Oh, fuck that noise. Nope! I think I'll just take that overpriced loft next to the train tracks". (3rd ward, Milw, Wi).
Omg what adorable dramatic little babies!! If I lived next door I would have thought these dogs had been left alone for days from the sound they’re making 😂
they aren't good dog for flat... Basenji is a true dog. He's a hunter. He would be an espace artist if you don't give him an huge space to run and live. But since he's extremely clean for a dog ( the cleanest) and doesn't bark some people think that he's the best dog for an appartment which is ridiculous. Like can you see in the video, one is looking for a long time at the windows while the other is screaming lmao
they are !!! A lot of peole think that since the Basenji is the cleanest dog and doesn't bark, he's great for an apartment. But the Basenji is a hunter. He needs a huge place to run freely otherwise he will be an escape artist. In Africa they are loved because they are loyal, smart, clean and of a great help to hunt, prevent dangers and look after livestock. If you mix them they can become pet like we know in the western world. But they still need a huge place to live. Keeping them in an apartement is dumb as fuck.
Australian Dingo does the same I owned two brother and sister when I was a young girl and every time I left without them they would howl their faces off.
WOW!!! I'm looking to rescue an older Basenji (I'm 76, already!) and I have a big domestic cat that howls and talks a lot. Can you imagine the chorus?! My apartment neighbors are patient with Surya, but I wonder if a Basenji would be an overload ha ha ha. DO YOU think an older Basenji will be able to re-bond with me and be happy?
Absolutely. It might take a little time for that bond to form. But definitely believe if you are good to them & somewhat decent at reading animal behavior, you'll get along just fine...
Hey man serious question cause I really wanna get a basenji. Do they howl in the middle of the night a lot. I ask because it would wake up my parents and i finally convinced them to get a dog but they won't accept a dog that won't let them sleep. And also I see from other videos in RU-vid that they like to play, are very active and have tendencies of hunters. I guess question is, can they sometimes just chill and relax with you on your couch or are they always running around and won't chill with you if you're watching a movie for example.
I have a basenji and she always sleeps through the night and rarely makes noise when people are around. You might get woken up early if they need to go out to use the bathroom but that's the same with every dog. Sometimes when we get home she will howl/yodel a little and will howl sometimes when we are gone like these two. Other than that mostly silent which is great. Lots of other dogs I know will bark at almost every noise. As for the chill part. They will chill with you as long as you give them plenty of exercise especially when they are young. Basenjis have lots of energy and the best basenji is a tired basenji so talk them on long walks or runs. Mine also loves hiking and going to the dog park to run with the other dogs which is good if you don't want to run or hike. If I need tire out my basenji out quickly I will ride my bike at a medium speed and have her run along side me. This takes some practice so you won't run the dog over so be careful.
Actually, they make good companion dogs but you have to give them lots and lots of attention. Establish who is boss, and keep them entertained. Personally, mine watches TV when I have to be gone. She can open the back door and the yard is fenced so she can go in and out.
So, so sad 😢 poor dogs, I feel that I want to come and hug them, they are probably very depressed after their Awner left them home alone.😔 Efrat Israel.🍍 😁
