I have had Basenjis since 1981. This film of Cooper is so beautifully made. It made me cry with happiness. There is no other breed that can match a Basenji. The perfect dog.
I have had one of these for about four years now, he was two when he came to me and totally by accident. He is only one of a long string of dogs that I have cherished, (seven of which are still with me.) His name is Cephas which is Aramaic for Peter. He also answers to Mouse, His ears stand up like a mouse. Not a day goes by where I don’t think of each and every one of them. You are not alone with your feelings…… All for the love of a dog Blessings to you and yours
I have always since a young girl wanted a Basenji 40 years on I now am going to get two male and female. I have owned Australian dingoes who are just as loyal and unique
This is lovely. Cooper is a beautiful dog and clearly has a wonderful life with you. This also made me cry because growing up as a child I had a dog that I'd found on the street as a stray. We had never heard of Basenji's before that, but a neighbor who went to a lot of dog shows came by one day when she heard that we had an odd looking dog that made some weird noises and no one could figure out what she was. We knew she had some German Shepherd in her, but we couldn't figure out what on Earth the other half was. The dog expert neighbor took one look at her and said, "Oh, that dog is half Basenji!" And sure enough when we researched the breed she was indeed mostly Basenji in every way. She was the best dog a kid could have wanted to grow up with, I had to put her down when I was 24 and she was 14 and 25 years later it still breaks my heart and reduces me to tears to think about it. Many of the pics here of Cooper remind me so much of her, she had a full on Basenji face and ears, with the eyes and wrinkles on forehead (and she had the yodel too!). The pics of Cooper sleeping with his ears relaxed especially reminded me of her. I miss seeing that so much. Thanks for sharing. Loved it.
I live in an apartment and I have 3 boys ranging in age from 14, 10 and a half, and 4 and a half... Been thinking about getting a dog, but in cannot exceed 25 pounds, and I'm not generally used to small*medium breed dogs... I grew up with a Great Dane, and a Doberman at the same time, and then after we had a Bull Mastiff , and a St. Bernard... So This transition is hard to go smaller... But I am in between the Shiba Inu and The Basenji,,, leaning more towards Basenji... I'm IN LOVE with the facial expressions and. the love one gives... sooooo please help me get one soon... I reside in Maryland I live in a townhome. I work during the week 3:30am to 11:30am and 4:30am to 11:30am on Sat and sun so plenty enough time to give a basenji I think...also I have to pay a $500 pet deposit and have valid shot records to have the dogum wogum so please direct us in the right direction... We would like to start off puppy 8wks or older weined from mother, all papers to show my landlord with shots etc.. please contact ASAP
I just love your video of Cooper. I have three and have had them 1981. You both such a wonderful couple with hearts of gold. cooper LOVES you both so much and it shows his warmth of Love and Happy character of him reflects your treatment of him. I wish him a LONG LIFE with his wonderful little play buddy. I cried with love and happiness. Would love to become your friends on Facebook. My name is Kerry Pearson from Camden New south Wales in Australia.
I'm sitting here bawling my eyes out, while my 7 week old Basenji puppy Shango is asleep in my lap. He looks so much like Cooper! Beautiful dog, beautiful video, great music. Thanks for uploading
Wow, basenjis live a long time! I have a basenji/Siberian husky mix and she will be 11 this year. That has not slowed her down a bit! I bet she too will have a long life! Dogs, if they are happy and well loved, will stick around as long as they can because they don't want to leave their humans.
I love this video. My boy's name is Trooper. He is approaching the end days of his life.. I am so sad but extremely blessed to have had him since he was 4 weeks old.
I had two B's that looked just like your adorable Cooper. Colt was wonderful but didn't understand how dangerous cars are. Tippy lives to a ripe old age of 18 1/2. Thanks for the memories. Enjoy your sweet Cooper!
What a lovely film...Thank you for sharing. i lost my dog, Copper Baron, 35 years ago. I was so much reminded of him in your images. Baron was only 8, I loved him with all my heart.
Great video. Cooper seems like a wonderful companion. Thank you for the many hours of work that went into making the documentary. David- Knoxville, TN, USA
This video reminds me of my Basenji Charlie when he was a puppy; they are so smart! My Charlie will be 8 years old January 13th 2017. Picture to the left is him when maybe 5 months old. I love him so much. It is very apparent that you love your baby too. Have fun for many years.
Your video is life transforming. I enjoyed it, even though it made me cry. Remembering my child hood dog of 15 yrs, bunnkie. Hope that copper and his brother lives a very long life beyond 50 years, happy and healthy. It surely did touched my heart. I am a cat lady of 4 cats and I'm interested in getting a quiet dog. This impressed me and might be just the breed for me. Thanks for sharing. And please stay close to the Lord Jesus, as only he can bring such happiness in our lives!😇🙏
Thank you so much for sharing Cooper with us, we are thinking of possibly bringing a basenji into our lives soon, and we really enjoyed spending time with cooper. Your post has definitely increased our interest in the breed!!!
From a cute puppy to a very handsome guy! Thank you for sharing and creating this exceptionally lovely video. I am looking to rescue and older Basenji. Wish me luck, very rare.
I was watching my Dad's Basenji one time and a neighbor up the road was walking a 10 month old female he just got. So I stopped him and brought ours out which was a male 7 yrs old ,she got so excited by running around ours playing and cordialing him. He was pretty mellow with her and played a little with her, So I asked him if she does that with other dog breeds he said no and was surprised on how she acted I told him They seem to recognize their own breed instinctively.
A magnificent film with a perfect sound track about my most favorite breed. We have two Basenjis, Trooper and Gwyn. They are very loyal, intelligent and beautiful. Watching your film was like observing my Basenjis growing up a second time. Thank you for making it! Captain Frank
What a beautiful love story. Thank you for sharing this. These dogs are so special and you have provided such a loving home for them. And YES, this video made me cry! I have had two Basenjis and the bond we have/had is represented here in your lovely film. God bless you.
Купер красавец!Моя басенджи Урсула тоже любительница полежать на хозяйской кровати,а её лучший друг кот Кузя любить повилять хвостом перед Урсулой.Сняла много забавных видео и фото с котом и собакой.
I also own a basenji, awesome dogs BUT WILD AS HELL. They will destroy anything, definitely have to keep them crated when you are not around, at least I've always had to and this is the third basenji I have owned. I love how they have no dog odor (clean themselves) and they don't bark.
This video is beautiful. I have been thinking for a while of getting a Basenji in the future and your video has convinced me even more. Cooper is stunning. :)
I have had three over the years.... The only way you train them is if a spirit of a distant relative possesses their soul... according to African villagers
5:31 is probably my favorite photo. I hope he's still happy and healthy. I can tell he's spoiled 😹. Edit: 6:51 my basenji was a show dog when she was younger too and she does that same thing when she lies down with us. PS: her name is Ginger and she's got two red/orange spots on the white band that goes from her neck to her snout.

So beautiful.. So cute. I have 3 years old Basenji, I found him on the street, abandoned. It is strange, a Basenji in my country Indonesia. Probabaly my Kuto is the only one here. Now he is my best half. How long can Basenji can live?
