In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ru-vid.comUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

Thank you, this was so simply explained and well presented. Had 2 questions if anyone can answer. You mentioned to power off the boat and electronics before switching to battery 1 or 2, what about if you are switching it to the combined setting having power from battery 1 and 2, would you still have to power down the boat? And also, when I have 2 batteries on the boat how do you generally charge each battery especially the house bagtery which would be used more for when the boat is off out in the water? Sorry may be dumb questions but trying to figure all this out.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Your explanation is excellent as usual and now I have the confidence of at least knowing what the batteries are doing and more importantly which one was my flat cranking battery which needs replacing I think. I would love to see how you add an isolator and charging system to this and explain how those work using the board you have created here. Great video. Those 3 way switches normally should be a "make before break" switch. This prevents there ever being an open circuit before the next circuit is made. Therefore you can switch through positions 1, 2 and both with motor running as long as you DON'T switch through the OFF position while it is running.

What is the best way to charge battery 2 (battery 1 being the one used to crank motor over)? Can you switch from battery 1 to battery 2 after starting the motor, provided you don't ever go to the "off" switch? Otherwise, how do you ever charge battery 2 for a situation if you used your stereo at sand bar for quite a while? I would have thought the best way to charge battery 2 would have been to go to the dial where you used batter 1+2 to do so, but you mentioned in the video to not do that very often.
@curtisanderson01
@curtisanderson01 Год назад
This is my exact question also... once you drain battery 2 with the stereo/trolling motor/fish finder, etc. Can you switch to battery 1, start the motor up and make sure all is well, then switch to the battery 1&2 position to re-charge battery 2? I completely understand never to switch to, or through the off position with the motor running.
@Mornechriz
@Mornechriz Год назад
@@curtisanderson01 If the switch is wired correctly then yes you can. I normally start the motor on one, or sometime both if the starter battery was a bit flat. If you start on 1 (starter battery) let it run on 1 for a bit to recharge and then switch to both or just 2 (house battery)

Good description thanks, I would have also added the diagram for the negative and positives to the outboard coming off the busbars.

Thanks I appreciate it .. I think I mentioned in the video to run the motor positive off the battery switch output and the motor negative off the cranking battery negative .. but maybe having some wires running off the board to at Imaginary motor would’ve been a little more helpful for some .. thanks for watching and commenting and for the input..

Very nice video, I'm in the process of rewiring my boat. I have the Blue Seas switch with ACR. My only concern is getting the right size deep cycle battery to power two bilge pumps, stereo, marine radio nav lights, and led lights.

You didn't really explain how both batteries get charged by the motors and how they are connected to the system. I have a small kicker and a main that have charging circuits. Do you have a video to explain how those get hooked up? Do you only use an on board charger for the deep cycle? If you cant switch the main power selector while running, how do you start the motor on the cranking batt and then charge the deep cycle? Do you crank on the deep cycle in t that case?

So if im following correctly, I dont necessarily need the positive bus bar if im not stacking too many cables on the battery switch and dont need a negative bus bar if i use a fuse block with a built in negative bus ?

@@ReelLifeFisherman I actually do have one last question. If i purchased a switch panel where all powers and grounds are already jumped leaving only 1 post open for the connected device, how do I make use of the fuse block to protect the device? I greatly appreciate your help.
@ReelLifeFisherman
@ReelLifeFisherman 3 года назад
Not sure I’m following exactly.. are you asking about running power to a new pre-wired switch panel?
@rcdel239
@rcdel239 3 года назад
@@ReelLifeFisherman yes sir ! So on your breakdown you have two positive wires going out from the toggle switch. One to the fuse block and one to the device. My new prewired switch panel only leaves me one post open to connect straight to the device i want to power and no open post to wire to my fuse block

Great video this is why your channel is THE BEST..... I am doing this exact same wiring less the distribution bus blocks at the back. SO when you are running to a fishing spot your suggestion is only run on the cranking battery and leave the house battery in the off position? Or run both batteries to charge them both and when you go to your spot leave your house battery on and turn off the cranking battery?
@ReelLifeFisherman

Thanks I’m glad you like the channel! So I would recommend running around on the cranking battery until you shut off the main engine and don’t plan on starting it for 2 hrs or so depending on how many electronics your running.. switch it over to battery #2 so you can run everything and don’t have to worry about the crank battery draining and having to start it to charge it back up again.. if you want to make sure both are getting a charge while the engine is running I would suggest get a battery isolator charging relay .. let me know if you have any questions about anything..

@@ReelLifeFisherman I have a minn kota MK 2 DC alternator as well its set up on the cranking battery and the trolling motor battery but I recently bought a 24v Terrova so not sure what to do now. Also should you not put a breaker or fuse coming off your house battery before going into the switch then to power distribution block and if you do it that way would you need another breaker/fuse for the fuseblock under the dash?

I assuming you would have one more positive and negative for your motor and they would go directly on the #1 cranking battery posts and not the battery switch? You would have 3 negative and 2 positive terminals on your cranking battery?
@ReelLifeFisherman
@ReelLifeFisherman 3 года назад
If you want to be able to crank from either battery the main engine positive need to be on the output post of the battery switch.. then yes the engine negative would go on the cranking battery negative.. let me know if you have any questions.. thanks again for watching

Hi. Thank you for this informative video. Now when I get home and have switched the ACR to Off. The green light flashes every 15 seconds standby mode. Will this drain either battery if the boat is not run for a few weeks?? How can I overcome this parasitic draw?? How did you wire the on off switch to completely turn off the ACR when away from the boat???
@ReelLifeFisherman
@ReelLifeFisherman Год назад
Thanks I’m glad you liked the video. No I didn’t wire mine in with the switch.. but you absolutely could. I never had any issues with it draining my batteries even when i wouldn’t plug in my charger. But you could put in in line with the output side of the battery switch and it would cut it off from the cranking battery.
