Ya know, I heard an expression that goes, "when the fisherman can't go out and fish, he stays ashore and repairs his nets" and thanks to you, now I have a way to do just that. Cuz I can't sew on my machine at this moment but I can definitely learn how to draft my own patterns in preparation for everything I want to sew when i am finally able to again. I'm very happy to have found your channel. Thank you and i wish you much continued success!
I made these! Your instructions are excellent and I made my 16yr old daughter pj’s! She has very long legs and pj’s are never long enough! We made some with cute colourful cats and she loves them! Palazzo pants next! Thank you for the guidance and sharing your knowledge so generously!
Hi Alisa, I followed your instructions and completed from drafting to sewing basic easy pants. You are a gem with your instructions and show how to. Everything fits so well. I had tried previous times with other's instuctions but came up short. You're the best. Looking forward to more sewing projects with you.
I wanted to make myself some comfy cotton shorts to wear at home. This tutorial is the best! They came out so good and they fit me so perfectly. They are my favorite shorts ever cause they’re made for my exact measurements…
I'd been hoping you'd make a basic pants pattern. I've been watching other videos about pants pattern draft that have been good still not positive I had it figured out. I knew you could do a video focusing on the bare basics I could work on before working up to more complex patterns.
So I’ve made these pants before and am revisiting the video to redraft it on some slightly more durable paper (instead of the original baking paper which is all sorts of messed up). This was the second garment I ever made and I still wear it all the time. I feel so proud of everything (minus the waistband which is a nightmare and I hope to do better this time!) Last time I measured this on my living room floor and now I’m doing it in my little dedicated craft corner and the amount of growth in the near…6 months(?) since my last draft of this just really evokes a sense of pride. As someone who has only owned a sewing machine since January, this video is superb.
Congratulations! So well done and I am so, so happy that you are sharing your progress and your enthusiasm - thank YOU! Waistbands can be a little bit tricky - but with time you will find a way/method/technique, that speaks to you the most. So, so happy for you! Happy sewing :)
I did it!! Alisa, *thank you* for creating these videos (and hello neighbor, from another Tennessean 😊) My Mom used to sew many of my clothes, but I never asked her to teach me, which I deeply regret. I just sewed my first pair of pajama bottoms, from drafting to sewing, and because of your excellent videos, they are comfy, fit perfectly, and best of all are well-made! While there are lots of excellent sewing videos, yours are the first I’ve come across that teach drafting and various techniques of sewing to beginners. From the dialogue to the camera work, and of course the content - you are a wonder, young lady. I often find it hard to pick things up on RU-vid videos, but your instruction is so clear. Please continue to share your knowledge with those of us struggling to learn! So, next up, pajama tops from one of your summer top videos!
You make it look so easy! Still afraid I'll do it wrong. But, I'm willing to try pants. Drafting a bodice still scares me too much! O, I love your fabric!
Joy, hello there! If you don't do it- you will never know. Use old bedsheet, cheap cotton to make a test garment and go from there. Besides, pattern paper and fabric does not bite :)
Thank you Alisa. I always look forward to your new videos ever week. Most of my patterns and sewn pieces were from your tutorials. They are Straight forward and practical. More power! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 😀
Thank you so much. You have proven the simplest less complicated way is always the best way .So easy to understand. Thanks so much.Keep up the great way.
OMG I can now draft me a pair of pants based on my body measurements! Thank you Alisa so much for your tutorial and after my Christmas sewing rush, I will indeed be making me a pair!
I am so glad I found you on RU-vid! You make me want to start sewing again! I messed up my pj pants pattern a long time ago and just haven't tried garments since...only blankets/quilts. You are so inspiring and I can't wait to set up my sewing area again. Thank you!
@@ThoughtfulCreativity I've been binging your tutorials all weekend. I'm building a basic pattern collection that I can eventually pull from and mix and match outfits for
@@deidraliddell8543 Deidra, I like you! That's exactly the goal of what I do for myself and for this channel/viewers - good foundational pieces that you can mix and match, add accessories and never feel like you have nothing to wear and that are a good base for any future sewing variations :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity I've been enjoying your tutorials so much and it's truly helped me. Sewing is one of my coping mechanisms for my anxiety and depression and is a huge outlet for my creativity. I also design appliques that I can iron on my pieces that represents different elements of my cultural heritage and that is extremely fulfilling for me
@@deidraliddell8543 Yesss! I totally hear you! Sewing has some magical powers, for sure. I am glad that it takes you to better place when you're not feeling the best. And I am glad that you found a bit of help on my channel :)
I just found your channel and you are an amazing teacher...I've watched a lot of drafting tutorials and you make it so EASY to understand! Binging your tutorials! Thanks 😊 I'll be becoming a member once I get my taxes done (so I have time to sew lol)
that was real cool i have such a hard time fitting pants i always have to fold at the waist im going to try this im new at this i hope i can do it thank you
I have just found your channel and am very happy that I did. You explained that very clearly and simply, best I've found yet and I will definitely be trying this out. Thank you.
Hello there, I saw your other comment asking about how to fold fabric and cut, please open the infobox underneath this video and watch how to cut and sew these pants - you will see how to fold and cut fabric.
Wow! You make it look so easy and simple… I’m starting to think even I can do that! Thank you 🧵🪡 looking forward to watching how to make the pants from the pattern
Amazing! Thank you so much for this video - beautifully clear and easy to follow. I am definitely going to create a trouser pattern using these instructions and will let you know how they come out.
You should! These are very easy gathered waist pants, there will be a video about how to sew these, how to add pockets, and how to add a waistband - so you will be ALL set :)
@@MrsGump oh no....make a test garment form old bedsheets, if you need to make any adjustments for your taste and then you will know for sure when you cut into your good fabric, that way you knw your hard earned $$ are in good hands!
Hi Alisa!! Man, you make this so easy to do.. I can’t even believe it.. It’s nice to know I can draft what I want then mix & match outfits together.. I deeply appreciate everything you’ve done for me…. 💜💜💜🧵🧵🧵
I am a far cry from the perfect pattern size. This is so wonderful. Thank you so much. Question: if the legs are too loose how would I make them a bit tighter?
You can do it, sometimes the first step is the scariest one, but we need to make it, the only thing - if you're planning on loosing more you might want to wait just a bit, so that way you're not doing the same thing twice, however it could be a could practice.
Keep working through it, you can do it, I know it! remember - pattern drafting, even if using your own measurements - still needs adjustments, what looks good on paper does not always look good on the body.
Hey Alisa thanks for all great videos you do! Can you please make a video in the future If we are doing this pants for a man, what would we do differently? Also thank you so much for your efforts to make sure everyone can understand the video!
I made my own fleece pants. I will say there is always room for improvements. I feel pants are tricky than most things you can sew due to the fact you need to deal with negative space.
Jo, hello there! Thank you! If you mean Memberships - then open the infobox, there are written instructions on how to do it. If you mean just subscribing - then click on "subscribe" button underneath this video. :)
I'm going to try this. I haven't sewn garments for years and never tried to make my own pattern. Your directions are so well done it gives me the confidence to try. Plus these are PJ's doesn't have to be a perfect fit. If this turns out well I would like to get your instructions sheets for all the things you made in the past. I know to get this one I have to join your channel which I will do, if this works out for me. My question is will the pattern sheets for previously done items be available to me if I just join in a few weeks? THank you.
When you join every thing she has made so far will be available to you. As she makes more beautiful and useful tutorials they become available. I'm so glad I'm a member definitely worth it!
Simple fix that might work for you is to reduce crotch length for the front and reduce width of your front leg pattern at the hips/waist. With that being said - you need to make sure there is enough width in the pants after you reduce the front pattern. Take the pants you already have and problem solve why the front is bulky - that will give you an understanding of what to adjust.
my dearest, I always appreciate your talent shares. Thank You. there is a correction on the Pattern construction. The Knee Level is b/n or half of the Hip Level and Ankle Level, not the Crotch Level and Ankle Level.
Hi Alisa, Love how you explain the patterns so easily. But when I was trying this pattern for basic pants I got into some difficulty such as my waist is smaller than knees. When I reached the knee circumference on paper noticed my front knee went out of my waist pattern. 😮help me please
I so much love your video. Very explanatory and step by step. I will start sewing now by following you. Do you do children's sewing as well? Will like to learn that from you if you do. Thank you.
Hi Alisa. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials. I really appreciate it. I just want to make sure, when I extend my crotch line to the left, is it with ease included divided by 2, or is it my original hip measurement without ease divided by 2 and that measurement extended to the left? I am from South Africa and have used so many of your wonderful tutorials..
Hi, love watching your videos, thank you for all your hard work. Just wondering, with the measurement, if your belly is large than the hip measurement, do you use the belly measurement or the hip measurement. Thank you🙏🏾🌷
Hi, love watching your videos, and thank you so much for all your hard work. Just wondering with the measurements, if your belly is larger than your hips, do you use the belly measurement , instead of the hip measurement, to calculate for the pattern. Thank you❤️
Hello! I’m thinking about subscribing because you’re one of the only RU-vidrs that I found to do make reasonable clothes for adults and your daughter! For the paid subscription, do you have children patterns as well? Sorry, I just want to know what I’m gonna get into before subscribing to description is slightly vague
Hello there, that's because to know everything about Membership and what it is you have to watch the Membership trailer, to witch there is a link in the description. There are NO patterns for garments, as I don't do patterns, you draft your own, and Instruction sheets go through from the beginning of Membership through July 2022. By signing up you get access to everything I have in the Membership that you see in the trailer. I have only one kids Instruction sheet and that is for the kid's shorts. Here's the link to the Membership trailer - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uP9qSamkVkk.html
@@ThoughtfulCreativity I am so sorry! I’ll watch the trailer. I prefer drafting myself to learn! So that sounds like a bonus. Thank you for your switch response.
Great video. ! Im watching from my iPad. I didn’t get a pop up window for membership….🥴🤔🥴. What do I do now? Also why ….( if we are following you on you tube……) does you tube not allow us to get full benefits while I’m using my iPad.
Hello, hello! Oh... I wish I had answer to that, I actually spoke to RU-vid customer help regarding this topic and Ipads not supporting some Membership functions and.... it is what it is. I know, it is so strange! I have a couple of Members who use Ipads, it is a bit more work for them to go and "find" the new Members Extra videos when they release, but I also have a FB group for Members Only where I post them, so that way I can reach all Members! I am so sorry... you still get full benefits even if you're using Ipad, you just don't have a few convenient things that make it so effortless to be a Member, like Membership tab, for example.
@@znycelondon5313 U have 2 facebook groups, one is general group - people share free patterns, sewing advice, I share my videos, other videos - that one is free for everyone. The other group is for Members Only, so for those who become members here on youtube - there people ask me specific questions about sewing/drafting, we share pictures, ask for specific advice, sneak peeks and things like that.
