I am 69 and French. I restarted learning Russian some weeks ago with books I bought at a local bookshop. I already made an attempt last year but was interrupted due to more urgent needs. When restarting this year I had trouble finding the good rhythm and path. Eventually I found your site and I must say: "its really amazing". What an excellent teacher your are! With you, learning becomes a real pleasure. What I appreciate the most is your talent in stressing the most important things but also the lack of superfluous stuff: nothing but the just necessary to prevent student from becoming overwhelmed by irrelevant details. Thanks a lot!

Why человек doesn't change in genetive case?
@AmazingRussian
@AmazingRussian 2 года назад
In the genitive singular, it does change: человек - человека. The plural form люди in the genitive - людей.

Thanks for another great lesson. I heard this phrase recently and I was confused by the use of the genitive case: "хочешь мороженого", but after listening to this and your other videos, it sounds to me like this is translated as, "want SOME ice cream". It implies a quantity. Is that correct? Is this use of the genitive referred to as partitive?

Hi hoping all is well and praying for the best during these hard times. Only the power of knowledge and cultural understanding can propel humanity to a greater understanding of each other. History is why I started learning Russian in the first place!! This video is currently where I’m at as of today. Let’s keep studying harder!

The grouping you present (2,3,4 and compounds = genitive singular; 0,5-21 and compounds = genitive plural) is very useful. However from this we might assume that, as 21 takes genitive plural, then 31, 41 etc. would take genitive plural also. But I have seen elsewhere that they take nominative singular. Could you clarify please? Thanks Alex
@AmazingRussian
@AmazingRussian 3 года назад
Numbers ending in one: 21, 31, 41..,,101...take genitive singular.
@TheMisterlordy

I am just a beginner of Russian, but I don't agree that 21 is genitive plural as in the video shown because it should be nominative singular in my opinion.
@AmazingRussian
