Basic Russian 2: Genitive Plural Forms

Oliver D Yes, Oliver. I think the same applies to Bulgarian. So it seems that Macedonian is easier than Serbian and Russian when it comes to nouns. How about verbs? Are they easier than Russian too? Thank you!

Yes it seems that Macedonian is easier compared to Serbian and Russian when it comes to nouns, but still it has three definite Articles in order to express definiteness, and I found that Serbians sometimes have difficulties with the Articles if they try to speak Macedonian, still it is unfamiliar to them because they express definiteness of nouns through Cases. Serbian as well as Russian is highly inflected language, has one more case -vocative, but at the same time it has less Endings than Russian when declining nouns, which makes it easier to learn. Russian is much complex because of the letter "Ы" which plays a huge role, as well as the soft sign. On the other hand the systems of verbs are different and complex in each one of them.

Например: мальчику 1 год, мальчику 2 года, мальчику 3 года, мальчику 4 года, НО - мальчику 5 лет (не говорят 5 годов); женщине 34 года и т. п.

@@AmazingRussian If I may....with numerals as well as neskol'ko you use the genitive plural chelovek: Piat' chelovek, desiat' chelovek, dvadtsat' chelovek, neskol'ko chelovek. But with mnogo, malo, nemnogo, nemalo it is correct to use liudei. I would recommend the book of Pulkina, Zakhava- Nekrasova Russian Grammar with Exercises, where the authors explain it very well in Eglish. This book is in a free access in a PDF format somewhere on line. Cheers to all! :)

@@alexvap3280 Ok, chto kasaetsia slov god, goda, let, to...... God is used after 1, 21, 31, 41etc etc , goda is found after 2,3,4,22,23,24, 32,33,34 etc etc and the form let is used after 5-20, 25-30, 35-40 etc... Speaking in other terms...after 1, 21, 31 we use the nominative case singular god, after 2,3,4, 22,23,24 etc - genitive singular goda, and after 5-20, 25-30 etc - genitive plural let.:)))))

Hello, The word ИДЕЯ phonetically is [ид'`эй'а]. It ends in A, so the plural genitive is ИДЕЙ (zero ending). The word ЖИЗНЬ ends in Ь, so the plural genitive is ЖИЗНЕЙ.

@@markkram9331 I can even explain why it is dvuh synovei and not dva syna. U menia est' dva syna..... dva here is in the nominative case and syna according to the rule is in the genitive singular. I menia net dvuh synovei.... dvuh here is in the genitive after net and synovei agrees with drvuh in number and case - so it is genitive plural. Only in cases when the numerals 2, 3, 4 are in the nominative or accusative inanimate they are followed by genitive singular, in all the other instances the noun agrees with a numeral 2, 3, 4 in number and case (dva studenta, dvuh studentov, dvum studentam, dvuh studentov, dvumia studentami, o dvuh studentah). I am a former university professor of over 35 years of teaching Russian as a foreign language experience and I attest that this instructor explains things very well and true to academic reality. Bravo from me, too!
