Thank you for the wonderful memories, was born at 21 Chapel St in 45 and left in 1953 so seeing all these great pics and the final picture I could see where we lived.

My home town, born in Old Basing in 1956 but we moved to town when I was a couple of months old. Dad's local was "The Feathers" and I remember he bought his papers in "The Warren" newsagents which I think was at the bottom of Wote St? Great memories.

I moved here in 1973. Love it. However, those responsible for the unnecessary destruction of history need to ashamed. A Newtown could have been built around the old without knocking so much down. I would love to have seen it as it was.

Excellent just one misdate at 3.47 'London Street 1952' could not have been because it shows a 105E Anglia outside the Red Lion pub, 105E Anglia's did not go into production until 1959. There is possibly a mini on the left of the picture as well which again did not go into production until 1959, so I should think this picture is actually early to mid 60's.

I thought that too. More likely to be 1962.

Some wonderful old pictures, but you can see from some of the 1958 shots e.g. Joyces yard as one example that the Town was becoming dilapidated and the decision in the 60's to demolish and rebuild was the only choice.
