Turning the shoulders and aligning them with the basket will help you with power and accuracy in your shot.

Pro shot system is the best shooting system ever! Period! Because pro shot doesn't try to tell people what they think proper form is and what they think will help. They look at the best shooters ever and tell us the fundamentals that they all use!

I like the turn but when ray Allen said that he meant to get your body squared to the basket because your body is facing the pass when you come of the curl.

Sean Flaherty exactly, what Ray Allen means when he says turn is to do a pivot square up as he catches the ball off the move, not turning the body after releasing the ball. I've coached 12-year olds who turn their body when they shoot and I haven't even instructed them to do that. They do it because it's something the body naturally does on its own. It takes lots of reps to get a good squared straight shot. Body-turn is usually caused by non-intentional game-slippage, meaning you won't shoot as perfectly in a game as you do in practice with shooting drills Drew Hanlen is an NBA skills coach who I've seen squares his feet, 10 toes to the rim , when shooting practice shots...and he's a great shooter, he makes a lot of shots These NBA players are so good that they can get away with a little game slippage, not shooting with perfect form, not having perfect footwork, and still make shots
@fradez4
@fradez4 6 лет назад
I know there are good players that can get away with a little game slippage but the point of the video is " do not square up your feet to the basket " And i totally agree with it. If you have your feet to the rim than your hips won't be in good aligned. i know the old school theory of basket says the opposite and i know there is lots of players that can score consistently with that however now players are better shooter than before and it is because they are not square up to the rim and they turn and swipe

Coach can you please do a video that explains/show with an example with one of your students what to do with your shoulder when you shoot because I don't exactly get what you mean by put your shoulder under your chin. Whenever I do that I'm extremely tense and air ball but whenever I don't move the shoulder I miss to the left and I'm right handed btw. Yes I use all pro shots components and I'm a one eyed shooter just not sure what to do with the shoulders

Unfortunately i used to square but after i saw how jerky my jumpshot is... The deep squat, almost no elbow use in shot and no wrist flick i lost motivation but then i noticed i release my guide hand too early (my center friend who has 2 motion shot taught me to put guide hand away..) and yesterday i changed my jumpshot ti turn jumpshot a bit like curry s but i out guide hand lower and do less wrist flick and myb jump higher and nkw my jumpshot is amazing...

Hey coach, I learned how to turn and shoot straight but in real games i usually forget what i have learned. Can you give me some advice for that?
@RussellGurule
@RussellGurule 8 лет назад
I bet you're probably thinking about shooting technique and all that stuff during your practice time. So when the game comes, and the speed is faster, you end up forgetting because you don't have time to think like you would in practice. The thing to do, is to practice so that you're shooting becomes instinctual. Don't think more than what is necessary in practice. Get to a point where you can just go out and shoot without thinking about it.

Im confused. So do you start shooting with ten toes to the rim and then turn as you shoot or do you turn when your feet are still planted on the floor?
@awesomeman3563
@awesomeman3563 7 лет назад
Richard Yao either way what ever you like, if you turn mid air sometimes you can get more power from it personally I have my feet planted about 45 degrees but experiment with it
@tygeezy
@tygeezy 8 лет назад
I personally like starting off squareish, or even with my left foot in front of my right foot and then turning in mid air (right handed shooter). You don't always have the opportunity to get your feet exactly how you want them anyway. The mid air turn seems to give more power with the added benefit of alignment. Hoover talked about this....now it seems like you guys are going backwards with your progress.

Ok I practiced shooting in a mirror with a ball and without and I noticed when I started my shot after the dip by getting my shoulder in front of my chin it automatically lines up with my eye and feels smoother than forcing my arm to go threw my chin cheek and eye so I gotta know pleaseee. And it makes more sense for it to start the shot because you should be focusing on putting your finger through the rim for the release not your shoulder. Please respond pro shot :-)
@RussellGurule
@RussellGurule 8 лет назад
When you dip, the ball is going to go in front of the chin. That's what they mean by going through the chin. After this is happening, by the time you are doing the sweep and sway, the shoulder will naturally be in front of the chin. I would suggest dipping at the waste area, when you dip at this area, you will see what they're talking about.
@crear2823
@crear2823 8 лет назад
+Russell Gurule' I'm pretty sure that he doesn't mean bring the ball in front of the chin. He clearly says arm through the chin, cheek, and eye. Also, in a lot of his videos he talks about focusing on what YOUR doing and not worry about the ball. Also, if you look at the #1 one eye shooting vid the 2 dudes that are demonstrating, their arm goes through the chin cheek and eye not the ball.
@RussellGurule

@crear2823

@RussellGurule
@RussellGurule 8 лет назад
The whole idea is to make the shot as natural and tension free as posible. That's the ultimate goal. You get to that point, and it'll open up your game to new possibilities.

Ok serious question on the chin, cheek, eye concept... Are you supposed to control your elbow and have your arm go straight up through chin because I change my shot almost every day whether I control my wrist, elbow, etc... My shot looks like a quick flick because my elbow starts by going out so do I fix that by controlling my elbow to shoot? Really need to know

On the release, because before you shoot you usually have your shoulders down and you should have your shoulders down to do the dip, but then as you go up with the shot, then you bring your shoulders in front of your chin

it is okay for you to be squared to the basket. Mark price and even drazen petrovich were squared up. Some smaller players like Dame dolla need a turn because they need extra range since they are smaller. But just remember, if a lot of your shots fall short or to the side, it could be a squared feet problem as your elbow may stick out to the side or you have tension in your shoulders. But remember "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

3 things i do for range 1 relax (especially shoulders and grip on ball) 2 my alignment/shotline - hip shoulder elbow release lined up in FRONT of my shooting eye. - get hip and shoulder in front of body for power very important 3 i use forearm and wrist for power bend my knees as little as possible off balls of feet Ive made dipping a habit and the way i align myself i have a natural sweep because hip and shoulder in front of body. I would recommend watching stephen curry sports science video on how he uses his wrist its called "curry from 30 feet" or something like that anyways let me know if it helps or not work on your game

+Alexander Eliasson He means bring the ball up to shoot through your right eye if you are a right handed shooter. He doesn't want you to bring it to the right side of your head or the left or through your nose. He feels that the most natural is through your eye that matches your shooting hand.
@crear2823
@crear2823 8 лет назад
+tygeezy I don't think so... When you shoot your supposed to shoot with your shooting arm and your form should look exactly like it does when shooting in a mirror. So when shooting you should pretend the ball is actually not in your hand and just shoot your form.
