man I'm just leaving Berkeley lake. I did exactly what you did and I got my first bass. I'm a beginner so that's a big deal for me haha.. thanks for all the tips.. I did what you said at 7:15 of the vid and it worked.. that's how I got my first bass!! thanks man..
Some great bodies of water to fish around our area here. We're no Alabama, Florida or TX when it comes to bass, but there are some good reservoirs here for bass fishing.
It's awesome seeing my home lake on your channel! I was out Saturday on my kayak and caught a few 2lb'ers. I probably could have done a lot better, but I'm still learning how to fish from my kayak without drifting right into the fish (repeatedly...) I'm a pretty novice bass fisherman on top of that... Anyway, I'll definitely be trying the dropshot wacky rig stick bait when I head out this weekend. I've only considered using dropshot with finesse style worms. I've learned a lot from you channel. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Awesome and thanks for the kind words! Wish I could have spent more time out there today and I definitely will be taking the yak out there sometime. Keep at it w/ the kayak as you'll get the hang of it, then again you're catching fish out of it so it sounds like you're well on way to becoming an expert!
Tried duplicating you. Failed miserably:) I had a rough week of fishing overall though. I definitely lost a lot more gear in dollars than I caught lbs in fish. I had a 3/16 oz dropshot weight. Maybe I'll downsize to reduce snags; but, I imagine I'll lose some sensitivity. I was also using a Green Pumkin color - maybe it wasn't the right color. Then, there's user-error... So many variables, so little time...
Of all the setups and rigs, I probably lose more tackle on drop shots. One of the main things you can do to prevent snags is to make sure the line is tight, this will keep the hook and lure from getting stuck in vegetation and rocks. Green pumpkin is a great color and should catch you some fish. It took me a while to get the drop shot down. I didn't fish it hardly at all in the past, but I forced myself to do so this summer and it took a few fishing trips to get a handle on how to fish this technique. Good luck!
I'll have to give the drop shot technique another chance. I've used it in the past and got hits but wasn't hooking them with weedless 1/0 hooks. thanks for cool videos!
I live right down the road in Colorado Springs. Good job on your catches. Most people don't realize that the bass here aren't like the bass down in Texas for example. Those are good size for here.
I hear ya! I fish Quincy Reservoir a lot and catch quite a few 3-4 lbers w/ the occasional 5lber. I've yet to meet anyone that has caught a double digit bass in CO and I'm looking forward to hearing of a 10+ lber being caught here (and I hope it's me!).
+Bank and Paddle Fishing (Jeremy Baker) I actually heard that the state record I think small mouth was caught on fort Carson the army post. I think it's BS lol.
State record smallmouth is from Aurora Reservoir and was if I remember correctly, 6lb-11oz. The state record largemouth (by weight) was 11lb-6oz and came from the very southwestern part of the state (echo canyon reservoir). You probably won't see that record broken since CPW has to kill the fish to verify the record. Colorado also tracks catch and release records by length. The LMB record is 28", the SMB record is 23-3/4".
+5280 Bassin' ya I figured what I was told was BS. Lol I never looked it up myself so thanks for letting me know where I need to go to catch the big ones. 😉
It may do well, I've only fished this body of water twice and have yet to try a frog. A frog on top of those lily pads may create some nice topwater strikes!
good job bro. love that place Im lucky its on my way from work and home. you should get your yak out there and fish along all those lillypads and cat tails bet theres some nice ones around there..
I was thinking I wish I had the yak cause there are two large pads I would love to dissect from the yak. I could only reach small parts of one and the other I couldn't get to at all!
I'm a huge fan of these Blackout rods! My first one was this spinning rod and I also bought a 6'6 MH casting rod. If I buy anymore rods they will be Blackouts. I'm still amazed that they retail for $79! I believe Tacklewarehouse currently has them on sale for $54, which is a steal in my opinion.
Thanks for the reply. How would you rate the tip section as stiffness goes? Does it have a good bend or is it rather stiff? I wanted something not real stiff but with some good action for baits just like you are throwing, weightless senkos, ned rigs, light tubes, etc. Thanks!
I live by Buckley air force, do you know any good ponds around my area that I can go to? I'm a begginer. I went to quincy reservoir and aurora reservoir already. also is it legal to fish in local ponds in aurora?
Thanks! Ugh, my other mic went out and the new one should be here in a day or two. I hadn't been fishing in a month so I just couldn't wait on the new mic to arrive!
