Because of the space between the lower and upper halves of the boat you need to use a spacer (Think it was 5/8" I used) and then you can tighten the heck out of it and use plenty of marine silicone to seal it.
I was thinking I wanted to drain the pontoons without having to empty out the boat and stand it on its nose to use the factory plugs. Works great by the way.
