My wife recently gave me a bass (a little late in life :) ) because she knows how much I love Sabbath but in particular Geezer. I am in no sense of the word very good but enjoy playing whatever I can pick up. Your videos are amazing in that you break the music down into easy chunks to follow. You have a gift for teaching! PLEASE continue to make these videos. They are greatly appreciated.
That is so cool that your wife gave you a bass and you are learning how to play!!! Thank you so much for the kind words and I’m honored to have helped in any way🤘
It really speaks to Geezer's ability that a forty second solo takes almost 20 minutes to explain in depth... Gonna take a long time to learn this one. Thank you very much for the lesson dude!
@@BeholdenToTheRiff Lay's it way to hard sometimes, for someone trying to learn his bass lines XD thankfully there are great teachers like you, ready to bring it down a few notches, allowing us mortals to play like him.
geezer did improvise this tune. it is quite easy for the player but very hard to reproduce it it exactly. it is the same thing with basslines from james jamerson, billy cogbill ea. most of the stuff is a free floating impro. very hard to replicate. „son of a preacher man“ is not even 3 minutes, and it took me hours to figure it out exactly.
I always play some or all of this solo when trying out a new bass because it covers must of the strings and you can hear how the bass sounds. And that 5 to 7 fret area using pentatonics became my favorite spot on bass for me. Great lesson.
When ever i am jamming with my band and we are setting up recording equipment this is one of the riffs i play during my sound check, for the same reason.
Oh, one thing: I recommend playing over the area where the fret board meets the body. I find that gives that vocally “wub wub” tone from the first album.
Hey man, I've only watched a couple your videos but I want to say that I really appreciate how you teach these lessons in "Regular Guy" language, so to speak.
Ive just started to relearn all the sabbath bass stuff and this channel has been amazing to get me back into it, wish it was around when i first started playing back in 09"
thank you for breaking it down and making it easy to learn!! i'm a visual learner and a beginner and i have a hard time with tabs alone sometimes. thank you sm!!!
Hi mate , I only took up the bass during covid lockdown last year. My main inspiration was GEZZER and Black sabbath. That’s all I want to play and master . This lesson in particular is really precise and well said with the same passion I have too. You are making my dream come true .. I’m starting to play sabbath ! Yay. Thanks mate !
Hey man! Thanks for making these videos. I'm a visually impaired bass player. I only have 3 % vision and find it really hard to use tabs. These videos are helping me a lot. I'm learning loads of sabbath songs and your tutorials are amazing.
Thanks so much. Been playing for years and never given this solo a good effort. The way you break things down is exactly how my brain works and helped me learn in just a few days. You ROCK brother!
@@BeholdenToTheRiff maybe some Reverend Bizarre tabs would be awesome. :) I started to play on bass again (after 15 years) during the first lockdown period about a year ago and now I am really hungry for heavy riffs. Greetings from Budapest, Hungary.
Killer tutorial, dude!! The way you break things down is nice! And I really like that you play the whole riff before and after the breakdown so you can get the timing again. Really enjoying these!! The NIB solo I always try to imitate is the one Geezer plays on the Reunion disc. There are a couple tasty modifications to the solo he does and I just love it. My vote for the next Sabbath lesson is anything Dio era! I think some of Geezer's basslines in that era are the best he's done. Something like Die Young!
Thank you so much for checking out the video! Geezer kills on the Reunion disc!!!! Love the Dio era suggestion and will put Die Young on the list of lessons to be made🤘
Dude! You're pretty awesome! It'd be cool if you did some John Entwhistle stuff like this! The Real Me would be a great song to see! Or not! Bass on dude. Thanks for the video!🤘
@@BeholdenToTheRiff I've got the 1st 4 parts down solid. You've reminded me to go back and finish the rest! great tutorial. I've been trying to get my pull offs to sound better. find it hard plucking off if you understand
Great tutorial! Just one question: around 7:30 (second half of the third phrase where there is a lick) the pullof is not indicated in tabs, am i misreading the tabs or it is just an improvised thing?
checking out the logo and... um... Sri Hanuman is not really known for his bass playing ability (although the gods fixed it so he won't remember what powers he has until he actually needs them to prevent him from abusing them so in an emergency jam situation, who knows) You might want to chant Matangi a mantra. I'm pretty sure she'd have no problem with a bass veena....
Awesome interpretation! Just as Sri Hanuman is a messenger, devotee, and servant of Sri Rama, it is to the Riff which I am Beholden and to which all actions are humble offerings🙏🦍🤘
This thing is no joke!!! That’s awesome that you’re putting in the work. I had to go phrase but phrase, one at a time until I got it down. I can’t wait to hear you Slay this amazing song🤜🤛🤘
Great lesson but there's nothing about the tuning. From listening to the record and from watching quite a few Tony Iommi documentary's, Tony down tuned his guitar down by at least a semi tone. Therefore Geezer must have de-tuned his bass too. NIB is down a semi tone ( to my old ears) from standard tuning, which means it's easier to bend the notes on a bass. If your learning this & finding it hard to bend notes, tune down a semitone.
Great question! The first (2) Sabbath albums are in E-Standard. It wasn’t until Master of Reality that they started tuning down, where the majority of the songs are in C# Standard. If you’re checking out live versions, they may be tuned down, but the album versions are in E Standard. As for the string bending, Geezer hit hard and bent notes like a BEAST🤘
I like to leave being Geezer to Geezer :) He is such a BEAST, the best I (or any of us mere mortals) can hope for is to get the notes right and if we’re really lucky, catch a little of the “feel” of this amazing solo🤜🤛🤘
Thanks for checking out the video 🙏 If it’s a playthrough of the solo you’re lookin for, I ran through it at the start of the lesson. If the rest of the song is what you’d like to see it will be a video coming soon🤜🤛🤘
