We had 3 bassetts when i was a young boy. If they didn't want to come back inside the house from our fenced in back yard you had to go grab some pieces of cheese or hotdogs from fridge to coax them to come back inside the garage!
I miss my basset. Old age got her. She never had health issues, not even getting up and down stairs. Walked out side and found her in her favorite lazy spot.
They are my favorite breed by far, and are not the lazy beast they are often portrayed as. They are wonderful hunters. You have a beautiful pack. I love the country side in this video. I would love to see in person.
Kim beadyeyedbrat Kennedy oh yesssss.....this breed is much faster than what people believe. I have two and they both love an open field to explore and run.
Que despliegue de vitalidad, alegria, sonoridad, fuerza, olfato, quien lo diria al verlos dormir.... jajaj, esta es la verdadera esencia de los bassets, asi son, asi los amamos.
I once had a basset hound named Fred, or should I say he once had me. I was married at the time but divorced my pain in the a%$ wife. My wife left and took Fred with her. Months later my X-wife wanted to reconcile but I could not do it. I told her that we could be friends if she sent Fred back to which she refused. I have never spoken to my X-wife again. Damn, I miss Fred!
Fantastic. The mighty Basset Hound, not the fastest dog out there but they were bred with stamina in mind and that rabbit better have a teleporter if it wants to get out of there alive as those noses will track it any where. I've owned two Basset's in my life and when circumstances change, hopefully another and they just amaze me with how they were bred, the characteristics that make them... a Basset Hound. The ears, the skin and the saliva are all designed to help trap and enhance the scent. The thick breast plates to allow them to run through dense brush and branches without damaging themselves and even the white tips of their tales so their human companions can spot them in tall grass. Truly amazing what they bred into them all without modern science. And then there is that nose, one of the best in the business. Add to the fact that they are (to me) the most gorgeous animal on this planet. This video is almost a year old for me, but I truly appreciate you sharing this. Thank you.
Just what the basset is meant to do. One thing i love about them is that they're the point and bark type and won't attack. At least mine was. One day we went to visit my aunt and uncle and no one realized a rabbit made a nest and had some babies in the backyeard. My aunt had a german shepherd mix (not sure what) and right away we heard our dogs barking. You cant miss a basset barking, so we went to see what was going on since they usually get along quietly when outside together. (They're dog sniffs around and mine would sun bathe.) There was Daisy barking at GiGi to get away, im assuming, and as soon as Daisy saw us she started barking at us and moving in a way that said 'come here' while defending the baby rabbits until we got there. Unfortunately one was hurt, i think from GiGi since kept trying to get to them even though Daisy kept blocking her. We managed to save the babies and get them to a small local shelter that would take care of them until they could be released again. This was common in the small town, they had rabbits everywhere. Funny thing was that no one in my family hunts. Love animals to much to do so. (To each their own though.) So no one trained her on anything like this, and it just proved, what we already knew, that bassets are natural hunters.
I'm a rabbithunter & I purchased a Bassett hound because I liked it looks not intended to hunt it, but it got bred by one of my beagles & low & behold I started hunting those dogs & I would leave my beagles at home, I were offer a $1000 for the 4 of them & no they were not for sale momma & 3 puppy is bury on my place.
