I have a basset hound . She is not obese because I watch her diet and she gets exercise. These hounds were bred to hunt rabbit and there is no excuse to let them get fat. If the dog is fat it is the owner's fault.
I find this funny!! I'm watching this video and my three month old bassets Fred and George are going nuts looking for the other Bassets they hear on my computer
I love hearing Helen shouting in the background on bingo and the rest of her brood! It was a wonderful walk in Glen Tanar today and look forward to the video!
my basset owned me and not the other way around each 1 I had was a different personalities, 2 were funny, another wanted to please 1 was our 1st she stole my heart.
I had a basset hound when I was growing up. They are the best dogs ever!! Someday I am good to get a male basset hound puppy and name him Walter. I think that is just the perfect name for a basset male!!
We had a tri-color basset when I was a little girl......his name was Wimpy. He ws so sweet. Mama and dady got another one when I was an adult, another tri-color they named Beaureguarde. Bassets are such sweet dogs. I would own one myself but for all the shedding. Hubby wouldnt like that. At all. So we have poodles. I love them, but my first love will always be bassets.
The joviality of these dogs is exceptional! They tolerate one another and (every other dog's) nitwit people. Each dog's OWN people are brilliant and kind and have lovely, tuneful voices. Just sayin'.
they are a motely crew, there are quite a few rescue dogs and retired dams and a few of them are aged 13 + years, so not really overweight just what happens when you have lots of loose wrinkly skin, a bit elderly and gravity all pull together. Which i am certain you will see in your own bathroom mirror soon!
To everyone saying these bassets are obese, let's keep in mind these are European bred bassets which tend to be stockier and more loose-skinned than the American Standard bassets.
ashleyswshr i wish the idiots over here..USA. Would breed bassetts like yours with good legs...these puppy vendors seem to only breed crooked legs...poor dogs could never run and play like yours...plus most have untrustworthy temperment
What a gorgeous sight... especially the large group of Bassets at 1:08 all those beautiful hounds with waggy tails! Do you ever have a walk in the Edinburgh/East Lothian area please?
Do the boys (dogs, not humans, LOL!) have to be neutered to participate? I ask this because I took one of my bassets to an all day dog park where the park was set aside for dogs all that one day, for him to get to run and romp with other doggies, but they wouldn't let us in cause he was not fixed. We arrived with high hopes and left with both our tails hanging down. I looked for awhile here to see if I could see any of the boys privates, but gave up after a while. Thank you, and GREAT vid! Have had bassets since the mid 80's, only breed there is for me.
I know what you're saying, I had a non neutered male and we ALWAYS went to the dog parks and everywhere else, NEVER on a leash, ( dogs know how to sort things out quite well) but yes, when 2 non neutered males confronted, that was usually interesting to say the least, they know. . I would NEVER neuter my male friend. I wouldn't want him to neuter me
So adorable! But just a reminder, unless at an enclosed dog park, all dogs everywhere should be on leashes when away from home. Dogs, especially hounds, can follow their sense of smell and wonder instead of an owners commands no matter how loving they are. And no dog should end up lost and alone. It's a nightmare. They deserve better than that.
