BATAD RICE TERRACES, Heaven On Earth in the Philippines 🇵🇭 

At age 69 I spent the night in Batad. I even walked to the waterfalls, which is quite treacherous. Three months later I found out that I had cancer that had metastasized to both lungs, I’m doing ok right now and would like to do it again at age 72.

Did it feel like you travelled 2000 years back in time as you meandered through the narrow paths and the small villages? I can just imagine each of those volcanic rocks used for the retaining walls being carried by the ancient Ifugaos that carved the sides of those mountains to turns them into the magnificent terraces.

Thank you Jason for this lovely video of Batad. Your video brings back memories of my trip to Batad/Ifugao about 30 years ago. Starting from Batad I made a 3-day trek with a local school teacher. We slept in local peoples houses which gave me an insight into the lives of the local people. They all were very friendly. I remember, we brought salt, tobacco and biscuits as presents for the people. Unforgettable memories.

There was a scene on the movie avengers: infinity war where Thanus sat down and lived where he was killed by avengers, it was taken at the viewpoint of the banaue rice terraces. Amazing u been there, wish i have that strong leg

batad rice terraces is among the world heritage site in the world by UNESCO. and may be among the 'wonders of the world' list. a must-place to visit.

Batad is ideal for adventurous Traveller..so you better prepare walking and hiking..the area is quite dangerous coz of the narrow roads but its a worth journey seeing the view of rice terraces..one of the wonders of the world!! Good job Jayson..keep safe always! Enjoy staying in the Philippines

Ok. Those narrow mountainside trails are INSANE! One little misstep and it's HELLO PEARLY GATES!

You came here at the right time. May-june is the best time to visit batad because its all green. But everyone is required to get a guide, its better to be safe and its one way of helping the community.

There are some historians contending the well-known theory that the terraces were constructed 2000 years ago. They argue that they are the result of a more recent phenomenon than previously thought. Such phenomenon is the pressure by the Spanish government to assimilate and live on flat lands. Hence, those who did not like the idea decided to settle in the mountains. They also stated that it is quite insulting for the people who built the terraces to assume that they built such 2000 years ago because if so, then they should have developed other technologies (e.g. wheel, plow, etc) within such long span of centuries. Btw awesome video!

The Cordillera region of Luzon is a very beautiful and unique place. It's really different from the rest of the country. Even the ways of the people there are different. They cling more to their traditions and culture. They are very hardworking and disciplined. They are friendly but they are more serious than the typical Filipino, which I like.

Thank you for visiting Batad. I'm from here and I grew up here before I moved to the city of Baguio, the summer capital of the Philippines which is over a hundred kms away from Banaue. My mother's souvenir shop along the road to the jeepney station is the first stop when you're from the village. You probably seen her. When I was a kid, I always go with my mother every weekend to sell souvenirs to the tourists. A thing I always miss childhood memory.

If you are a Marvel fand and have watched Avengers Infinity War you will notice the ending of the movie where Thanos comes to rest that scene was actually shot from the place where you have visited. For a Fil-Brit myself I really appreciate and liking your videos. They are not too boring and are straight forward. I went there with my friends and I have people to talk to the entire time of walking, and I was imagining a single foreign individual walking with only himself and his cameras all the way to the waterfalls and back up again alone. Yeah, buckets of water would sweat the hell out of u while walking! Haha.. enjoy the rest of your travel here in the philippines!
