I've never made it to ANY of the Western Theater battlefields and I've been to all the major Virginia and coastal theater sites.... rev war to 1812 many, many times. Franklin is on the top of my list. I'm a sucker for physical reminders of battles (trenches, battle damage ect) so the Carter house is a must see. John Bell Hood should NEVER have been given command of an entire army... and battles like Franklin are the result. I mean, five confederate generals including the best combat commander in the army AND the destruction of his division? Unmitigated disaster.
