I absolutely LOATHED this fight. I don't remember if I died or not the first time, but I do remember the fight taking over half an hour. Didn't help that most of that time was just Giacomo moving back and forth to attack...
This. This is why I grind in this game. I remember being stuck on this part and leaving it to start the game over, a few times, because I thought I did something wrong. No, I just had poor deck management. But, now that I think about it, levels do make some difference in your deck management as well. The effectiveness is about 90/10 I'd say, with 90% towards your actual card load out, and 10% toward characters overall stats. Edit: it's probably closer to 70/30 management/stats, as I couldn't beat Giacomo at lv. 1.
Lots of Flametongues, Crystal Edges, Ray of Truths and Death Penduluns on Kalas's Deck are the key to end the battle very easly. Another great strategy is to create some SP combos like that hamburguer, which if I recall, restores 800hp per use. I always focus more on healing and buff itens than those defensive magnus. The battles turn pretty easy because there's no limitations to healing itens in the decks
Stats have a lot more than 10% to do with it. Obviously you can’t have simple long swords and level one magnus in your deck but if you have cards that are up to par to where you are in the game, you still need to be at a rather high level
God I absolutely loved this fight when I was young. I losed it like 40 times and I can say I loved every part of it. That theme. The crazy 3 bosses at the same time. I love all 3 of em and fighting all 3 is just crazy. Finally managed to beat em after a lot of patience, luck and grinding
I remember being struck in this fight, until l changed my strategy and used a "Heal character", just with healing and defense items, while the other two unleashed hell upon the enemies
Playing the remaster right now, my team is completely underleveled because I had been saving up to get the big 10 level payout. Currently nothing has really been too hard to fight at my current level. But I've tried this fight like 10 times, and I can't believe how tough it is. Why do they all get double attacks?? Not only does it hit twice as hard, but blocking their millions of hits runs through your cards so fast that you're going to be reshuffling quickly (giving them 4 attacks in a row). I can take out 1 of them but then I get steamrolled. The game devs were so insanely bold to put such a massive difficulty spike in a non-grindable area which traps your save file. I have to believe that they actually intended for people to get softlocked. Though honestly I do like it, it is fun how you have to buckle down and really try hard. I feel like I can JUST BARELY pull it off if I get lucky and play perfectly, which is fun. I just wish that the attacks weren't so slow...
Oh god I feel bad for you lol because the whole 'multi-level payout' thing is definitely a bad habit I had to remember to tame when a replay brings me back to this area. Your complaints are completely valid though
I had this on a GameCube about 15 years ago. Got so frustrated with this fight I had to break away for a while and my GameCube crapped out on me so being the idiot I am I traded in the games and all lol. (If I was smart I would have at least kept a few of the games like baten kaitos and star fox for collection) what sucked is I would always picture this fight time to time in my head but couldn’t remember the name of the game till Nintendo announced the switch remaster. I’m not sure why I was stuck back then knowing me it was a bad deck I was too stubborn to adjust, under leveled or both but just finally beat it today. Definitely a fight that wants you to know as much as possible about the combat.
I definitely feel you on the 'too stubborn to adjust.' I've only ever done that if I feel like I underleveled but I felt like I gave this game's field battles its due so I refused to do anything but keep trying the same thing. Madness/stupid gaming on my part but I never had trouble like this before
@@Onigirli neither did I really when it came to this boss years ago I always pushed through whatever game it was but this one was different I guess with it’s battle system.
I forgot about the robotic sound some GC games have in the characters voices. I wonder if it was just a Namco issue because the other games that had that issue were ToS and Starfox Assault which were also Namco. You forget it when you keep hearing it but having not heard of it for years makes it's very apparent again.
This instance it was a Game thing. BK1 was absolutely notorious for it's trashcan voiceover. Everyone sounded like they did their recording over Skype with those corded headphones with the mic by the volume.
@@Onigirli it happens with ToS, star fox assault and both baten kaitos of all the games i played. ToS was the first time I noticed it. It may be more noticeable in some games than others and you stop hearing it overtime. You might've not have noticed.
Straight up the worst part of the game, for me. It's annoying enough that this part makes multiple saves necessary, seeing as you can't grind in that area or even leave it, but the battle is migraine-inducingly slow. Why, for the love of god, why does Giacomo get that many turns, and why does his move take 40 years to carry out??
LOLOLOLOL OMG I remember thinking the SAME SHIT back when I played this lol glad I wasnt the only one. Slow ass giacamo getting like 2 or 3 back to back turns
Recently played through this game, and I went with offing Giacomo first, since he basically takes two turns. Ayme should definitely be saved last though, since she does little damage compared to the other two.
Yeah, take out Folon, or his energy injection makes him really hurt. Luckily he can only use it on himself, thankfully. Giacomo is second. Ayme is last cuz she doesn't hit quite as hard, the only bad thing with her is Chaotic Ice.
