what's insane is that if you replay the game and know where the end magnus is given, when you look at your inventory you see that the end magnus is gone right after the scene with Melodia
I remember this twist from back when I originally played the game. It really is 1 of those twists that sticks with you years later. It was so well done back then, it's amazing. Monolith Soft didn't do a twist near that level again until Xenoblade Chronicles 1, although they were a little more hinted at. I'm so glad Baten Kaitos finally got a remaster after 2 decades of obscurity. Now younger players can have this twist stick in their minds.
Played this game for the first time when the remaster released a couple of months ago, and oh my god this twist was absolutely incredible. The entire GAME was incredible! The story is one of the best in any RPG, and the music... Oh my god, the music. Cannot wait to get started on Baten Kaitos Origins!
What I really love about how this scene is played out is how Kalas looks like he is addressing you, the player, as if he was actually using you, the very person who has been playing the game.
I bought this game at Launch, and unfornetnly it took me 20 years to finally pick it up and really give it a proper go.....But recently just go to this Twist....WOW! That was great!
@@JeremazingShots Origins has much, much better voice acting than this game, and is worth playing if you have the time for it. If it's true that the remakes are only going to be Japanese voice only, you'll be missing out on some great voice acting.
Ho gods, I'm glad I played that part with Kōsuke Toriumi's voice, thanks for the remaster being japanese voices only! 🙏 His voice was top notch considering this mindblowing moment, that I experienced for the first time
Pretty genius to include the player as an actual participant and viewer in the game, for it to make sense that there’s someone/thing kalas is always acting for
This game is underrated it’s by the same people that do xeno series so they can use that to sell a remaster if they need to. origins is my fav of the series tho
@@jetstreamgamingexa I liked Origins, but I feel they didn't answer all the questions and left some holes that I feel should have been filled, but maybe I missed something. Still loved it though.
Thanks for not saying that the slowly and smoothly enunciated voice of a possessed psychopathic heiress of a duchy of a land of cordial eccentrics donning carnival clothing, sounds horny. I'd never have thought I'd have to thank someone for that, until I came to these comments. PS I'm disappointed that unrealistic voice acting is considered fit for a stage, but not allowed in movies or video games. All, please see Star Wars, and better yet, many early "talkies". To you, thanks again.
@@almondjoy4938 It's true. As soon as I read my last line, I was told I collapsed like an accordion. I was rushed to the ER just in time for the doctors to unfold me. Tragically, it was too late to save my spine. Namco agreed to pay for an operation, but had spent all but $5 of the budget on my performance, and $1 on the rest of the game, leaving $4 for work related injury. So, they reused the metal pipe we recorded our voices through, stuck it up my ass, and shoved in the four crumpled bills like a cork. In a cruel twist of fate, Namco slipped a clause in my contract obligating me to spend the rest of my life commenting on Baten Kaitos related RU-vid videos. Wow! Just can't believe I was caught red handed. I really tried it, huh, but there's no way I could be someone who doesn't hate the voice acting. What was it that did me in? Was it perhaps that I can count to 9 so I had extra brainpower left over between battles? So I could remember a really obvious theme from an island that I spent more than 30 minutes on? And remember basic facts about a main character? Couldn't be a Baten Kaitos fan. Wish I had tried harder (not try at all) to blend in.
@@LMstan1989 I can't tell if you're simply playing along with my joke, being a smart-ass,or both. No matter who you happen to be,though, your response was pretty amusing. 😂
The Baten Kaitos franchise was truly a unique and intelligent offering to gaming. I think more kids should get to play these types of games apart from the usual. Loved it as a young teen myself back in the mid 2000s.
I didnt liked Baten Kaitos that much, but holyshit this part Beats every betrayal in any videogame ive played, THE FUCKING PROTAGONIST, the Main character that YOU control Betrays You !!
When I had this years ago I had to take a break after being frustrated with giocomo, Ayame, and colon on the Goldoba so I never got here till I got the baten kaitos remaster. Just got to this last night but holy crap I did not see it coming. Also I forgot how silly the sun sounds lol.
you really should consider changing this title, it's really spoiler-y and a total buzkill for newcomers to the games now that a remaster was announced.
yeah from what i understand they were trying to go for you the player aka the guardian spirit are watching the events of the story from another dimension and the reverb effect was intentional is just doesn't work well in hindsight.
Even for the time I remember this voice acting being bad. I think i played it not long after Tales of Symphonia. Felt like night and day difference in quality.
@@jetstreamgamingexa Trying in part to make it realistic within the environment as well. It was a weird choice in development. But I was all for it. Never minded it.
I'm sorry that he's literally lost his mind with power that usually fries people's brains completely. You know, I just want to forget that only Fadroh, Geldoblame, and Kalas (all of whom spent a great deal of time killing people, manipulating people, and preparing themselves for this one thing) mentally survive. But please, by all means, keep attributing the disparity between the voices and animations, entirely to overacting. It's just not worth it to consider what might have been less awkward, if the animations had been more dramatic. (And sorry, but I'm an audiophile, so I have to disown the voices entirely despite the fact that a performance precedes its recording.) To be perfectly honest, I really just don't want to support any of the actors if I deem most to be bad. Oh wait... I'm just as overdramatic as the voices in this game huh. But I'll never realise that because I can't think my way out of a paper bag.
Would have thought someone with a username like 'nihilistic anarchist' would appreciate a twist that breaks conventional rules of storytelling and betrays your trust. Ironic.
