The GTHO Pahse 3 was the fastest production 4 door sedan in the world at the time. Unjustifiably, the government cracked down on the production of these types of cars, so it was the last of it's kind (there is a Phase IV, different car though). Good, low number examples of these can currently fetch over $1M at auction. This race just looks like an open historic event of little significance (no offence intended). Could be a club meet or a support race for a bigger race meet. You can tell this guy knows his way around Bathurst and knows his car, which appears to be well set up. Once he gets going, and judging by his lines, he's a well above average driver round here.

Great reaction Jeff! I had never seen that video before. Bathurst circuit is a public road with a 60kmh speed limit. You can drive it any time but not at speed. 🙂They close it off for events. Eastern Creek has lots of open days, it's an international speed circuit, F1, Moto GP etc. Cheers and thanks m8!

The Javelin is actually a Valiant Charger built by Chrysler in Australia , this one had a 265 hemi 6 cylinder , if I remember correctly . But those Falcon GTHO 351 Shakers just love Bathurst . You can also check out the old Muscle Car Masters for a bit of nostalgia where you would mostly see cars that your familiar with . NO-ONE in the world races cars like we do !! That wasnt an AMC Javelin, that was an Aussie Valiant Charger. And it looks like it might of been a E38 or E49 Big Tank. So more than like the large 265 inline 6. For many decades it was the fastest naturally aspirated engines in Australia in the quarter mile. Beating even V8's. Only beaten once Holden updated their V8 with the Gen III.

Maybe you could reach out to the Australian motor sports controlling body, CAMS. They may have some suggestions on how you could go about bringing your own car out and racing it at Bathurst. Quite possibly in a V8 super car support race on the weekend of the big event in October.

They have what is classed as "Classic Touring Car" races where they take all the cars from yesteryear out of mothballs or out of the museums and give 'em a run around the mountain (and other tracks). It is sort of competitive but also nobody wants to destroy their cars (because of the difficulty and expense of repairing them) so it's more of an exhibition than an actual race. Still pretty cool though to see all the classic machines of days gone by. The car featured here (from the cockpit view) seems to be the Ford GTHO Falcon (phase 3) it was a pretty quick thing and is still a favourite for muscle car fans in Aus. (if you can find one) An original numbers matching car is gonna cost you as much as a house these days.

Check out some of the early footage of Bathurst . Over the years it had different names - 1963 to 1965 it was the Armstrong 500 , 1966 to 1967 the Gallaher 500 , 1968 to 1972 the Hardie Ferodo 500 ( 500 being miles in 1973 it changed to 1000 kilometres ) 1973 to 1980 Hardie Ferodo 1000 , 1981 to 1987 James Hardie 1000 , 1988 to 1995 Tooheys 1000 , 1996 AMP 1000 , 1997 Primus 1000 , 1998 to 2000 FAI 1000 , 2001 V8 Supercar 1000 , 2002 to 2004 Bob Jane T-marts 1000 , 2005 to 2020 Supercheap Auto 1000 , 2021 to present Repco 1000. But you must check out Peter Brock’s 1979 race , he started from pole , led nearly every lap won by 6 laps and did the fastest lap of the race on the last lap . Cheers Mick

Happy Saturday morning from Australia! I hadn't seen this one before either! What makes the 161 laps of the Bathurst 1000 even more interesting is that it can be raining at the top of the mountain and sunny at pit lane. Oh, and the kangaroos. They jump out of nowhere to cause chaos 😂 I'm not even really that much of a racing fan, but I grew up watching the Bathurst religiously every year, so it's a given that first weekend of October I'll be glued to the tv. I have a few different music suggestions when you get to them. * John Farnham - Angels LIVE 2000 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5_2NJRIdBO8.html - this is an acoustic version with his band featuring Lisa Edwards, his backing vocalist of many decades (and a little of John's personality shining through). * I Still Call Australia Home | QANTAS TV Ad | 2022 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--niyYHexMTo.html - yes, it's a commercial, but trust me! It's from QANTAS the Aussie airline during covid and when our borders opened up. You HAVE to see this before coming to Australia. We get a little patriotic from time to time and this is one of them. Absolutely stunning scenery and beautiful song. * Prejudice by Tim Minchin - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KVN_0qvuhhw.html - This man is Aussie musical comedy gold and a monster pianist. 🎉🎉 cheers Jeff!

So where do I start?. Okay I almost did John Farnham today but I ran out of time cuz I did the extra Bathurst. What a funny story that you tell. I think this race is for historic touring cars. All seem to be what was raced here over fifty years ago. Cars in close to road trim but tuned engines etc not departing too much from original. Almost sure this is a reverse grid type of handicap race with fastest cars starting at the back.
@goannaj3243
@goannaj3243 Год назад
Looks a reverse grid, slowest in qualifying up front for fun. Those little mini's dominated Bathurst in the early 60's with 850cc, before the 1300cc coopers, there is a series that just has them and 60's mustangs, minis take on the turns but mustangs take on the straight. There is a channel called Blend Line TV on youtube that does grass roots racing and people there would help with questions about racing in Australia.
