Its an absolute privilege to have been at this course for V8 supercar Bathurst races and the inaugural 24 & 12 hour races - but you HAVE to walk this track to truly understand how bloody steep it is up the mountain and how insane it is to come DOWN again...
So you would have figured out by now that Brock is the biggest legend of Bathurst, and a week of videos dedicated to him would be more appropriate. Some popular YT suggestions: 1979, Brocky on slicks in the wet, and talking to Peter during a lap of Bathurst. Anything you can find really, the older the better in my opinion. This guy really knew Bathurst, and his casual approach meant he'd go into cruise mode in the enduring event. Not cruise/slow, they just get in that zone, almost one arm resting out the window type thing.
If you wanna check out the absolute best of Peter Brock at Bathurst, then hands down the 1979 race where Peter Perfect started on the pole, lead all 161 laps of the race, including all pitstops and driver changes, won the race by over 6 laps. Oh and set a new lap record on the very last lap of the race, all while running out of oil.
@@OccasionalOutlaw Yep! An absolute epic. And back in the day when there was no "Chase" in Conrod Straight. Just one long straight. And also when the smaller classes were still running in the race. So good to watch.
Love it!! As a great NASCAR driver once said, "If you aren't scaring yourself, you aren't going fast enough!" Bathurst will scare the crap out of you, for sure!
He had balls of steel for sure, but he knew every inch of that track and exactly how to drive it. Everything he did was calculated precision, not to say he didn't miss the mark sometimes, but he also knew just how to come back from a mistake or mishap. A true champion. King of the mountain. ❤
In the 1980’s my father worked in a advertising agency in Melbourne Australia doing illustrations for Holden . when the first commodores came out for sale . I remember waiting for my father to finish work and I saw Peter Brock and John Harvey few times arrive to visit Bill Tuckey wheels magazine motoring writer . My father’s office was next bill tuckey . I remember Brock pulling up in the HDT commodore road cars. As child and to now I loved watching Peter Brock race . It was the best . Bathurst isn’t the same without him
You need to see some of the drivers doing commentary while racing in the 1000 Peter Brock, Larry Perkins and for old style racing Peter Williamson it will blow your mind how calm and in control they are, also Larry Perkins last to first is worth a look as well.
You bet Charlie I love this kind of stuff I have a little bit of road course experience but nothing like Bathurst. I will check out all of it. Be well mate.
Try these two on Mr Brock King of the Road Peter Brock 1986 interview 60 Minutes Australia Peter Brock Bathurst 1979, Last Lap in the A9X If you type into you tube should be able to find these Their a lot of kids running around with his name as their petrol head parents named them after him Also odd Aussie rule players have the same thing happened Brock was know for his earlier Holden Torana racing these cars where very raw in technology Pretty much road cars with slight modifications to them Hope you enjoy also 05 was he's number even when winning championships retain that number on the cars Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
@@OccasionalOutlaw all good mate also look up dick Johnson was Ford rival Look up Dick Johnson Crash Bathurst NSW Also Dick Johnson's tangle with the rock in Tru Blu There's always strange stuff happening kangaroo's on track ant eater all sorts of stuff not just the race some years Just keep enjoying yourself and have fun with it mate cheers 🦘🇦🇺👍
But did you see how close he was to "that damn grate" at 2:20. Just before he put it up on 2 tyres the first time. Always a shocker when you know what that grate can do to a front end. Always love it man. There's a video out there where Brocky drives the mountain in the wet during the race.. The car control is sublime. There's also another one where he commentates with the TV commentators for a lap, during the race.
Luvin your reactions to Bathurst 👏🏻🍻👍 Also you have to check out the Top 10 shootout’s where the top 10 qualifiers have the whole track to themselves and try their hardest fastest lap for Pole position ❤
Your should know that as you approach the DOWN the mountain point its called SKYLINE. Drivers sees NO TRACK JUST THE SKY. You need to set the Car line correctly based on knowledge without slowing down. This Skyline is now called BROCK SKYLINE.
God he was my idol I miss him. He was so perfect when he raced especially at Bathurst it was his mountain no one drove it better. saddest day in Australia’s motorsport the day we lost him. There will never be another like him. You have to watch the one of him talking as he going around the mountain it’s phenomenal the way he is so relax like he’s out on Sunday drive an not in car race and one of him driving in the wet.. RIP Brocky we miss you. 😊🇦🇺🥰
I completely understand where you are coming from growing up I was a big Nascar fan because of the old school drivers and the day Dale Earnhardt died I was crushed it never really has been the same for me since. I imagine with Brocky it was the same feeling inside of your heart and soul. The more I watch of him and get to know him as a person on a racer through coverage and interviews makes me miss him too. R i p Peter Brock
Wheewwwwww DAMN Brocky!!! Not known as 'King of the Mountain' for nothing! Very sad loss for Australia. Maybe others have mentioned too, part of the Bathurst 1000 was a long-standing Holden Commodore vs Ford Falcon rivalry, models manufactured in Australia. I was always a die hard Holden girl. Sadly, Holdens and Fords don't get manufactured here anymore, since about 2016-17 (I think... someone correct me if I'm wrong). Last year, 2022, was the last for the original Holden brand on the Mountain and of course, they took the podium. I actually got teary! And I say I'm not really a racing fan 😂😂 we'll see GM's Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustangs this year. The mustangs look SO COOL! Not sure it will be enough to get me to switch colours to Ford's blue from Holden's red 🏁🏁🚩🚩
Awesome stuff is always I love your stories. I guess it's time I break out the video and show you what I'm driving and why I like this race so much. Coming soon
Watching you fall in love with our motorsports is awesome. I knew when you replied to one of my comments with " no worries ", this bloke is gonna be an honorary Aussie. I'm ready to bestow it on you already, let's see if my Aussie brothers and sisters agree in the comments. You should get yourself a P.O.box so we can send you some memorabilia and some of the best snacks you'll ever eat . Tim Tams alone will be worth it.
David I got a big grin on my face reading your comments because you always take the time and are so kind. I would be honored to have the title. I will look into a PO Box just so I can get some of those snacks. LOL. It's probably really late there so I will talk to you later on it will be my Saturday night or sunday.
Excellent reaction to Brocky, could I ask you to make the video a bit bigger in future reactions, I know your face is lovely and all ! but the video is what I am watching !!
I think this was to find your starting position depending on time etc. Your enthusiasm is catching lol. Interestingly last night on "Better Homes n Gardens' the whole episode was filmed at Bathurst as they were celebrating their early Australian Heritage Week.
Good morning and good evening to you you might not see this until morning Sunday. Thank you for stopping by again. Your kindness is catchy. LOL. With all the response to the course and the racing and driving I think it's time I break out the video showing you guys what I'm driving and why I'm so interested in this race. Coming soon.
@@OccasionalOutlaw Oh wow, now that's something to look forward to. Ok now my mind is racing lol but I was remembering that they do a 'celebrity race' the day before the 'big race' and maybe someone could organise a car for you ???? Just putting that out there for anyone who has some inside info.....Now that would be awesome!!
The man the legend only dick johnson for me is in the same class yes I know for you it’s dick dick but those two were like tome and jerry , Abbott and Costello ,pure class
I suspect you’ll enjoy Brock being interviewed live on tv mid race, giving a bit of a tutorial on how to drive the circuit whilst overtaking slower cars and as relaxed as can be. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OeRrvJSXXy0.html
Yeah I'm going to check it out for sure I have a little bit of road racing experience here just having fun in Central America nothing like Bathurst. But I sure love that course it's the greatest race I've ever seen and I'm going to watch every bit of that I can find. I have that one you spoke of coming soon. Thank you and be well.
