The swinging hinge part on the roof is actually so that you can put Batmans feet into it and he can hang upside down like a bat

Ah, yes like Keaton does in the 89 movie. Thanks.

Thank you! What a wonderful information! I just pulled my sons BATMAN The Animated Series Batcave Command Center Payset by Kenner out of storage. It looks similar to this one, and I believe it is possibly one of the ones you displayed earlier in this video. He is 34 years old now and I am getting ready to return in back to him! He is excited! He has many action figures as well as accessories to go shooting with this old toy!

Nice review as always. A friend of mine owned the Batman Forever release (that came with the additional cardboard diorama), I owned the Batman - The Animated Series repaint that was released before that. One thing to note, it was actually sculpted for The Dark Knight Collection, meaning it's based on the 1989 film. The building itself is designed after the U.K. manor that stood in for Wayne Manor and all the scenery inside is based on various scenes from the first film. Because Batman Returns was on the horizon they held off and premiered it with the Batman Returns line with a different paintjob and decals.

Yes, you're right. On closer inspection it does have similar turrets and ramparts to Knebworth House (the exterior for Wayne Manor in Batman 1989).

I hate that RU-vid removed the dislike count but For videos like this where it's just a wholesome hobby it should be a crime to dislike. So there's that

Looks like the Ace Chemical side was designed so you could recreate the Joker falling in to the Chemicals.

Yeah I think the same thing. Wish they'd properly updated the villain hideout part for each movie.

The playset was originally designed to be based off the first film, but it was never released under The Dark Knight collection from 1991. Instead it got re-released under the Batman Returns line, and it's subsequently been repurposed for the other films and animated series until Mattel took the license in 2003.

Ah, I had this playset back in 1995. Great memories. I think the version I had came with that awkward cardboard layout of the cave that came with nifty black Batman logo clips that went into slots around the cardboard for card shelves so figures could be placed on the layout. It was a very bad design as the clips were no way strong enough to hold the tiny card shelves. I think the other side was a skyline view. Back in 1995, I didn't know this was a reissue from the Returns mould. I loved the colour scheme for this version. Green was such a synonymous theme for the film and it works so well here. That's right, as mentioned the swinging hinge was for a Batman figure to hang upside down. But the Forever Batman line were all posable/in a stance so it was impossible to fit a figures feet in the slots; obviously for the more simplisticly designed Returns Batman range there. I remember the Batmobile being a nightmare to get through that door because of the high middle split wing. You were lucky! The Nygma theme at the back of the set was cool. I remember the blue tub very well that went at the bottom. You have brought back so many fun memories for me, this was a great nostalgic trip, a bit like the film! Thanks for this! Really looking forward to your next review of the other Batcave playset.
@1995Batman
@1995Batman 2 года назад
Awesome, glad you enjoyed the trip down memory lane. Yeah I have some of the cardboard add-on - it's a little flimsy but I'm glad they included it to make it feel a little more like the movie's version of the batcave. It doesn't surprise me that Kenner didn't adjust the set to fit the dynamically posed Forever figures. There’s a few examples over the years when they've rereleased stuff and it didn't quite fit a figure. The Knight Force Ninjas Batmobile comes to mind.

It was originally built for The Dark Knight Collection, hence why every design choice and play feature is based on Batman '89. The set was identical to how it looked in the Returns set in terms of paint job, although the Arctic World stickers were obviously Axis Chemicals instead.

Best playset ever. I have the BTAS one, still complete, since my childhood. The thing you said is for the zipline isn't. That's for putting Batman feet so he can rest upside down like a bat. Hehe. The zipline goes from the holes you see in the top middle part of the playset and down to the interior part of the front door.

Yeah the upside down thing makes sense now. Keaton did that in the 89 movie (well not in the batsuit).

Amazing! One of my favourite pieces in my collection. I wish I'd had it as a kid. My one is missing the garage door which is really frustrating. It was also missing the vault door but I managed to find a replacement on ebay...I don't want to say how much I spent on it! 😂 Small correction: The Dark Knight Collection (which was Kenner's 1990/1991 line inspired by the 89 movie) was the first line to have this, so it was designed for that not Batman Returns. The chemical plant bit was movie accurate grey originally before they repainted white for Returns and then green for Forever as you say.
@1995Batman
@1995Batman 2 года назад
Yeah I've also spent stupid prices to get missing accessories. Very frustrating. It being designed for the Dark Knight Collection makes sense given the batcave design. I was going by the listing on figurerealm.com which doesn't have it listed until the Returns line. Always assumed it came out late in 1991 by which point they were rebranding the line under Batman Returns.
@user-do2ev2hr7h
@user-do2ev2hr7h 2 года назад
By my count, this playset had at least 7 separate releases (one for each movie through Batman and Robin plus the animated series [both brandings] and one in 2002 ), so they got a ton of use out of this mold.

@1995Batman 2 года назад

@@1995Batman Read up a bit more on this and I think we're both right - the original design I'm talking about seems to have never been released. The first issue of this was indeed the Batman Returns one as you say, even though there was an earlier one designed to fit in with Kenner's 1990 Dark Knight Collection.

Mate I got to be honest. That's not the playset of batman forever, that's the one of the animated series. I had it when I was a child and really it was for batman the animated series. I don't know if because of the region they sold it as batman forever merchandise, but here in America tht was sold under the batman animated series logo. The one for batman forever was the bigger one, the one who had the 3 mountains and a glide hook above. Don't get me wrong, I love every one, just saying in my case was a little bit different 😁
