I never took it as Catwoman getting extra lives from the cats. Even as a kid, I took that whole scene as Selina going nuts. She fell out of the window and all those tarps slowed her down enough not to die on impact. She only believed she was like a cat with 9 lives, but it was all really in her messed up head

I think both Batman 1989 and Superman 1978 made it possible for Comic Book movies to become mainstream Hollywood blockbusters. The massive box office success of Batman 1989 encouraged studios to create Comic Book films such as Darkman, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films of the 90s, The Shadow, Swamp Thing, The Phantom, The Rocketeer, Dick Tracy, Dolph Lundgren take on The Punisher etc.

I think I remember hearing in an Interview Jim Carry had with Norm MacDonald, that Tommy Lee Jones hated working with Jim, and would often remark that he was _"Too ridiculous to work with",_ considering his performance in Batman Returns, I'd argue they're both a bit too ridiculous at times so it's weird that he's painting Jim as the only one being ridiculous in those roles in that movie.
@CorbCorbin
@CorbCorbin 2 года назад
He’s not talking about just Carrey’s performance. Carrey was at diva status by then, and he has had a few co stars say he was too much. To be fair, Tommy Lee Jones is disliked by a lot of people too. I’ve heard good and bad about them both. I have heard multiple RU-vidrs, who either used to, or still do press junkets, say Jones was the worst star to interview. He’s allegedly pretty similar to the Agent K character from MIB, whether on a set or not.

About the Batman 1989 soundtrack, and thank you for making it a topic in your video because if not, I would not have thought of this.. I personally enjoy the Prince music in the movie. And it's cool if you don't. To each their own, lol. But I started thinking, this movie really is split right down the middle if you think about it. It has two separate themes going on. One being Batman and the other being the joker. That theme carries over into the soundtrack as well. I really feel like the Danny elfman music showcases Batman while the Prince music definitely is made to represent the joker. It is very jarring and different, but I think that's why it works.
@blackking4610
@blackking4610 8 месяцев назад
I'm 56 and I saw it when It came out and loved it, I just watched it today and I loved it. Among other things, few people mention the music by Prince ! When we watch it today, we have to remember this was the best of 1989. I liked the scene to scene action! cutting out the transitions to keep it moving and not boring, superhero movies ask you to use your imagination, like when you're reading the old-fashioned comic books, for it's time , I see it as groundbreaking. Today we incorrectly compare it to all the other movies that came later . The original Batman movie is a piece of art. It stands by itself, this is the movie that set up all the other future superhero movies that we enjoy today.

My only problem with the live action actors portrayal, is that they don't know how to mix sounding menacing, to suave, to intelligent, to showing empathy/sympathy. Call me crazy, but I would have loved to see either Kevin Conroy or Bruce Greenwood in audition at the time for a live action. Because the thing about those guys is that they know how to mix ever Batman emotion without it being force. With Conroy, you can feel him as someone who knows how to interrogate, who also knows how to be a lady's man, to knowing how to be prepared, to going into complete shock when he witnesses something out of the blue. Some good examples would be in his encounter with Catwoman, his shock when he witnesses Harvey Dent go nuts and then get his face scarred, his fight with Clayface, and when Harley Quinn was in his Batmobile and almost got them killed And Bruce Greenwood (watch him in Under The Red Hood) knows how to be someone who can do all those things as well, but also shows his mentorship and when to pick his fights. I mean look at the fight between him and Jason for example.

The Batman films like the Bond films have gone through a cinematic evolution!! They started as dark and gritty with the Keaton films then went campy with the Kilmer and Clooney films. Then went back to being dark and realistic with the Bale and Affleck films. Just like the James Bond films started as gritty with the Sean Connery films. Transitioned into being goofy and over the top with the Roger Moore films. Then eventually went back into being dark and gritty again with the Daniel Craig films.

TBH.. I loved them all.. just in different ways, for different reasons. The Burton movies will always be my favorite out of the 4.. but the others are.. charming in their own way. I don't consider them sequels, I consider them their own different series. Minus the fact that Val isn't in B&R.. but that's just how I always thought of it.

The gadget and suit designs for Burton's Batman films are the best, IMO. The belt he wears is so damn cool. My favorite film is probably Batman Begins.

@1:37:12 Hey hey hey Kiss from a Rose came out a year before it was in the movie. It was like Sex on Fire or Just dance, it came out did OK, and later got much bigger in Seal's case because of the movie but the original version had nothing to do with Batman.

Tim Burton also didn't like Prince in the soundtrack, but he was forced to have it in there.

It showed how important Alfred was to Bruce and Dick. He was there adopted Dad. And Arnold had his typical Arnie cracks but he did have heart. He did give Batman the antidote. It was corney in parts but there was a lot of good I guess family values. They could have forgot about Poison Ivey. But it was fun.

On the fallong out in film 4. Came out in 97. TNBA also came out that year, a few montha before. The season opener covers the rift betwern Bruce and Dick, and is also the introduction of Jason Todd's Robin. Whom Nightwing tells the story, in the episode. Same thing the Clone Wars series did for the gap between Attack and Revenge. And to anyone wishing to debate this, the backstory for Freeze would make it plausible as cannon.

So I think Batman Forever is genuinely a perfect ending to the Tim Burton Batman Series (Other then the comic that's coming out that I hope to read when completed) Everything you said was right about it + Val looks so similar to Michael Keaton besides hair, its crazy. Robin is supposed to be 17 which I think fits well in that universe. Batman's character arc finally ends in my opinion, Dealing with a Robin that wants to kill who killed his parents is a perfect parallel. Bruce telling him that killing doesn't make it better, It gets worse. Its a perfect callback to his Joker, and in my opinion Him not killing in this movie shows his growth from that moment. I don't know it just fits TOO well.

I'm glad you mentioned Billy Dee Williams because I always felt a little robbed by never getting to see his Two Face. He's clearly mentioned to set up a future film and it never happens. Don't get me wrong because Tommy Lee Jones and Aaron Eckhart did phenomenal jobs. But man, I still want to see that Billy D Two Face just because 😆

“Tommy Lee Jones did a phenomenal job as Two-Face.” I mean… I guess that’s an opinion one can have. 7 billion people on planet Earth so I guess statistically at least one person has to think that. But I mean, geez… Did you think Halle Berry was “phenomenal” as Catwoman too? How about Shaq? Was he “phenomenal” in Steel?

I feel you're slightly too harsh on the whole, Bruce Wayne Michael Keaton thing. I think that may have been the point for him to come off stoic like that. He didn't feel like he could be humanly vulnerable with anyone. But in the second movie he's had more time as Batman, he's finding his footing as being both versions of himself. The things we would have likely seen that would come off goofy or awkward weren't there in 89 because he didn't think anyone would like him for himself. He had to play the part. But once people became more accepting of batman I think that bled into him feeling more comfortable in his own skin outside of the batman suit

Back in '89; around movie release, there was an actual book: "Untold Tales of the Joker"; some really DARK 'origin stories'

I'm of the firm belief that people who whine about Batman's no-kill rule are the same people who don't like people going down on them because "ewww". Do you honestly think Batman could keep an entire city safe through karate chops alone?

There has never been a live action Gotham that has been as good as Burton's. He really nailed the city. Skyscrapers, art-deco, and gothic 1800s relics all mixed together. That might just be because I grew up on it, and TAS that was heavily inspired by it. It might just be because I'm from the east coast and we have .... more and bigger older buildings. Not that they don't exist in the west or south, but they don't seem to stand out as much. Modern live action Gotham gives me more LA vibes than NY.
