So disappointing. Why bother doing an X enhancement if you not gonna put the effort in.

They literally could have made this backwards compatible and enhanced it for the X. Red Dead Redemption on the X looks better than this.

The X1X didn't fail to meet expectations. The dev's patch did.

So the game got a trash "upgrade" on PS4 Pro and also the Xbox One X? Christ these devs are lazy with this remaster

Could have made it backwards compatible and let Microsoft upgrade it to 4k.

I would prefer the Xbox 360 releases to be backwards compatible.

Why are they trying to upgrade this game and not Arkham Knight? Imagine Arkham Knight at 4K HDR. I'm pretty sure they could get it done, but judging by this "remaster", you can tell they're just lazy and Arkham Knight would be "too hard" for them to implement 4K HDR into.

The jump to unreal engine 4 and the resources' enhancements decisions are indeed to be respected, but it did nothing but hinder the game's performance and development. A 1080p lock 30fps for both Xbox One and Ps4 was more than feasible. Now Ps4Pro with unreal engine 3 is proven to take at least 1440p, same with xbox one x could have ran it at 4k 30fps. When they said the game ran at 1080p, I thought it was going to be 60 fps. Arkham Asylum, the masterpiece, is almost 10 years old now, 1080p and 30fps on the top hardware console is an insult.

I'd be ashamed to have a game running like this on either Ps4 Pro or Xbox X. What a disgrace.

The Physx effects in the original PC version looking amazing, made you feel more connected to the game world. Does anyone know of a reason that they have not been used in modern games ? I know it is an Nvidia technology but couldn't they license the tech to use in an engine or support AMD tech in the consoles ?

I remember Arkham City Armored Edition (the Wii U version) had a weirdly unlocked frame rate, too. What's up with them making that mistake?

I have tried to run both games in my xbox one x after hearing about the update but when the console runs them it does not tell me anything regarding an update for such games, at the same time, I notice no changes at all in the performance compared with the last time I played them... Can anybody tell me why this seems to happen only to me or if there is anything I should do to update the games to the latest version?

Funnily enough I've been replaying the Arkham series. I got most of them for free on Steam after what happened with the appalling Arkham Knight incident. Been playing it on 4K with all maxxed out (apart from full 8xMSAA). Still looks amazing on 4K 60fps teamed with an SSD. The Unreal Engine looks amazing no matter how old the game is

Just curious how this runs on an 8700k with 980ti , i upgraded processor but not gpu. Only run at 1440p not 4k . Would i get a decent fps of 80-100 on a 144 hz screen?

Glad to have seen this! Makes me want to wait to hold out for which version to get, as I have an X1X, and a base PS4 but wasn't sure which version of the game to get. Hopefully the X get's another patch to make it the best remastered version to play.

Looking back at things in 2022 the 45 fps cap was very much intentional. The patch was so advanced it already took vrr displays into consideration)

Can WB just give these devs some time to work on their games so they stop pushing out shitty ports? I have Arkham asylum on pc, and I can't run the game maxed out at 1440p because the game refuses to use more of my system. This kind of stuff is really frustrating.

Best way to play city is to play it on pro unpatched with boost mode and supersampling on a high refresh rate 1080p monitor.Try it and you are welcome for how smooth it is it holds 50-60 now with those settings.Unfortunately Asylum can’t really be too much improved from how it runs now cause of how it’s coded even without a patch.

How long has this patch been out, is it new? I only ask as I really hope it's been out for a while because last time I played Arkham City it had a bug where getting killed would remove the frame cap, making for a much more responsive and smooth game. I'm not sure if it works from the very start of the game, I only discovered it after dying as Catwoman in the Iceberg Lounge against Two-Face but it does seem to consistently happen any time I die in the post-game content. It resets if you close the game but dying after loading your save brings it back. I just hope they haven't fixed it... Is there a way to refuse an update?

I've been playing on Xbox One X, aiming to 100% both games. I don’t remember if this was the same case in Arkham Asylum, but in Arkham City, playing the challenges maps, the frame rate goes up to 60. I haven’t played the more difficult maps, were more enemies are on screen, but so far I think it has been a locked 60. I'd assume that in this mode the CPU has less things to do, so it has enough cycles to process the frames for a 60 fps target. Not sure if this also happens on base Xbox One or PS4.

Yep. I'm guessing you guys got more recommendations for it, but thanks for doing this. It says what I already know, but the exact details is nice to know. I had noticed a small difference after having put it down to reinstall it. I was playing the 4K 60fps RE7 just prior to jumping back in to Return to Arkham (of which I had just played two days earlier) and I was disappointed by a lack of X support, only to come online and see that it just HAD one. I didn't see any difference. Not only that, but the game for some reason after several minutes of play time would totally shut my X off which was shocking. I knew it had to be the game and nothing else, so I just reinstalled the game. As I reinstalled it I was playing The Witcher 3, which is only 30fps, and once it was done installing I jumped back into Asylum to finish it up and noticed a difference, though even the frame rate still didn't feel like a steady 60fps. Going into City, that is even worse. Yeah, it's a disappointing jump. Also, it would have been cool to play a 4K 60fps, Unreal Engine 4 Arkham before Spider-Man coming out, even if that might be unlikely.

Virtuous Studios are just lazy af. First, they released the collection in its worst form and then literally added patches of almost 12 gbs on both the games which couldn’t even fix the framerate to begin with. And then they proceeded to advertise an Arkham Origins remaster on their website which never saw the light. I mean, games that are almost a decade old at this point, can’t even play at 60fps. That’s how bad this fucking ‘remaster’ is. I get that it’s tough with a new engine and all, but what’s the point of a remaster if it plays worse than the original.

So when did this patch land? My version (1.4.0.0) hasn't been updated since last year...

I would like to see Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner on PS4 and PC do some comparisons, and do some comparisons on the VR side of things too with PSVR, Vive, and Oculus.

Not to mention advanced GPU accelerated Physx on PC Nvidia. It's amazing how well Arkham City on PC maxed out holds up to a UE4 remaster. The PC version of Arkham City was truly a leap over console skus. My 570 remembers it fiercely.

I know its kind of late to save these games but if you put the console on 120hz it stabilizes the framerate in both games

There's a graphics mod with better textures for these games on PC... just use that its way better than these 'remasters' and you get 4k 60fps

Wow, I had no idea this was the patch. When I first heard, I was honestly expecting at least 4k 30fps. I guess the PC version is still technically the best, at least for me. In my opinion, the new textures, lighting, etc are nice on paper, but the ultimately end up compromising the artstyle for me (i.e. the different areas of Arkham City look less distinct than they did in the original release). The PC version allows for better resolutions and performance, which is a win in my book. It's also not to demanding, a GTX 970 can run the game at 4k 60 at high settings in DX9 mode.

Was any of this patched? I want to play all three and origins in the highest quality possible on ps5.

I have played both games in different platforms, including PC at Max settings... But my favorite of them all is the Wii U Arkham City, the extra features with Pad made it worth it at least for me, even if performance is not superb.

I'm surprised to see no mention of challenge mode, it runs completely different than the story.

Bought return on sale a couple weeks ago. Of course I beat asylum about 2 days before the x patch dropped. The frame pacing in city gets pretty annoying. Still, they're great games, and i'm glad I've finally gotten around to beating them.

If you have a tv or monitor that has VRR and the X1X, you will get pretty much locked 60fps for Arkham Asylum. It order to get 60fps on Arkham City, you’ll need the disc and a PS5 with the game unpatched.

They should have just left the game alone it's dead.

New Samsung TVs have a 1080p Freesync range of 20fps to 120fps, really if they were going to run 1080p they should have just unlocked the framerate.
