Here's actual talk show footage from 1992 of the "controversial" Batman Returns backlash that came from both parents and kids, claiming that the movie was too violent, traumatizing, and scary. I saw the movie in the theater when I was 5 years old, and fell in love with it. I attribute a lot of my artistic perspective/creative aspirations to what Tim Burton created in this one-of-a-kind super hero film. I was not traumatized in any way shape or form; I was exposed to something that would instead inspire me to be different, and to celebrate that. Here's to the directors and writers that try as hard as they can to go against the cookie-cutter norms of the film industry, and make something truly unique.
