+Ostkreutz Rox yet it's kinda lost in translation on HOW DAMN MUCH Batou provoked the Yakuza to actually draw their weapons. Rough translation on what he actually said in the japanese version: "Hey chimps, move your ass and bring me your boss." - in other words the most disrespectful way to adress another person.
Even then, he's walking into a Yakuza headquarters demanding to see a leader. I would say all you need to know is the context of how dangerous that is.
Captain Sternn Seems like it was a bad cut together of two scenes. Like when a DVD had a small scratch or dirt on it and you’d get a small skip when it played.
+David Huston come to think of it, as someone who actually has been desensitized to things that shock and horrify other people, the reactions here to his reaction seems comedic. it's like, yeah, he stated a fact, but everyone's making a big deal about it XD of all the facts out there, this one is highlighted? I was personally amused by the way he said the grenade things always miss. felt like more of a genre lampshading than a reference to physics in reality.
Before Batou, Yakuza lazy. Before Batou, Yakuza have many puffed-up morons sitting on their asses, wasting money, with delicate pride and very stupid. Batou help Yakuza, inviting window lickers among them throw themselves on guns, gun of Batou. Now Yakuza leaner and more efficient. Batou good guy.
Zach Sutton Yeah, the augmented goldfish that was retransmitting everything that was happening to both the guy upstairs and the augmented soldier that batou wrecks.
Meanwhile in Kenya: 17 mangrove crabs downvoted this video's representation of their Japanese cousin... and then had their big brother go take that shit out on an unfortunate Solid Snake.
Togusa: Profusely tells Batou to promise him not to do any shooting Batou: Continually gives answers that do not include the exact phrase “I won’t shoot anyone”
2:29 Weird thing to mention but I love that the animators of this scene made the guns feel heavy. Its easy to think that Batou is strong enough to lift the gun without having to put any momentum behind it, and it'd probably be easier and faster on animation too. But he swings it upwards and catches it. And then the recoil of the gun messes with his aim a little and the barrel lifts a little from the force of shooting
Great point. I find one of the biggest problems with modern CGI is there's no mass to the objects. People can subconsciously tell that an actor in front of a green screen is pretending to interact with something that has no genuine weight, and thus no real presence. Kinda crazy that by going that extra mile to give a prop a real sense of weight and mass, an animated film looks more "realistic" than a Hollywood blockbuster.
@@dragonknightleader1 right....i said "almost zero noise" because its a big ass heavy gun and yet it sounds as soft as a plastic bag full of egg shells.
@@RedSoul001 I assumed it's landing was cushioned by something relatively soft. The thump sounds like something heavy and hollow was gently tossed on a carpet, tbh
I like the Crab Claw dude thing with the arm because that's kind of something discussed in the manga: why full body cyborgs are inherently stronger than partial cyborgs. Namely, the big cyborg arm is only as strong as the joint. The joint includes where it attaches to your shoulder or whatever. Although in the manga it has chibi Batou lifting a huge weight, and his arm falling off, and the Major easily lifting it. Because she was full and he wasn't. Whereas this Batou is really, really cyborged. Maybe not 100 percent, but a LOT. Enough that he can laugh at point blank grenade explosions.
Only the head of Batou is human the rest is prothetic. The members of section 9 joke about which part of the body he workout in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series.
I like this because it's as if they decided to make a cool children's toy design of a cyborg fight a grounded somewhat realistic cyborg with military and police experience.
+Adam Eva Ultron the ultimate A.I. on numerous occasions has tried but couldn't hack Stark's armour. Captain America fought stronger faster super powered beings including Deathlok a cyborg like Batou and won. Thor's lightning has been used like an EMP, the Hulk and Vision don't even try. The comics Scarlett Witch can alter reality and is the only being the Phoenix entity is reluctant to go up against. I do agree that Scarlett Witch and Hawkeye could defeated.
What you don't know is that the fish was actually one of the top Yakuza crime lords, famous for feeding his enemies and their families to swarms of piranha, using a cybernetic animal body to hide in plain sight. Batou did the world a huge favor by eliminating him.
"We're going to have a chat and avoid shooting as much as possible." I've watched this long enough to know that this statement is 100% a lie coming from Batou.
They pulled out their guns and could've shot Togusa. And besides, they're Yakuza, and not the respectable kind either. Even if they hadn't been a danger to Togusa, batou turning them into minced meat is ultimately a public service.
I don't think Batou lied, more appropriate to say he knew how this was going to end and promised his partner he would try. If the heavy in Section 9 wants to hit you, you won't know until you are already a puddle.
I love how intimidating Batou is, even to his allies - except with the Major where it's obvious they're old friends, but with him easily sliding into the subordinate role because of her superior skills and rank.
1:43 I remember seeing the guy with sword screaming and thinking he was going to give Batou a damn good fight... but Batou wasn't having it and dropped him first. Still cracks me up today. 🤣
Togusa is fantastic. I always love his perspective in this. I love that he was mostly normal. More so because of how much the cyber systems are intertiwned him being natural gave him an interesting edge. it didnt' always come up though. Sometimes I wish they had had a scene where everyones vision was fubard due to it and togusa took the target out
That was a little thing that annoyed me in Standalone Complex, they mention he's the "least" cyberized person but I guess it still includes some brain/optic implants since he wasn't able to remember The Laughing Man's face and just drew the logo like everyone else with cyber brains that got hacked to only see the logo
I think he's just a little sturdier than most such unenhanced street cops. Others would probably have been still down after that van explosion in the first film.
@@xxxCrackerJack501xxx Eyes dont need to enhanced to be manipulated if the brain is. Everything you see goes into your brain to be processed before the image is constructed. Your brain filters out things it doesn't want you to see. Like that little hole in the center of your vision.
@@xxxCrackerJack501xxx It was stated in the anime that only those without cybernatic brains could see the Laughing Man's face. Togusa definitely has one of those, otherwise there's no way he could even remotely keep up with the rest of the Section 9.
He's a highly trained and heavily augmented pro, been through dealing with lowly punks like these a hundred times methinks. Almost made me feel sorry for the Yakuza. 😂
If you want to get nitpicky about it, he did avoid "shooting as much as possible". Because as we know, it is certainly possible for Batou to shoot a hell of a lot more than that.
Literally had this scene in one of my Shadowrun games. Pacifist mage who only knows stuns/illusions/barriers and monster door-kicker street sam with marked preference for unreasonably large caliber are getting ready to hit the scumbag's HQ. Mage: You're not gonna shoot anyone, right? Sam: Sure. Whatever you say. Mage: But you're not gonna shoot, right? It's just for backup? Sam: Let's go talk to these guys. Mage: Okay. Talk. That's reassuring. Let's go talk. Several hundred bullets later..... Mage:
The leader pees his pants after being shot at with the machine pistol. The revolver gangster struggles with the recoil, possibly getting a nosebleed from it hitting him in the face. Little things you miss the first three times and catch the 4th.
1:58 Its funny how that one yakuza with the large-caliber revolver grunted because of the massive recoil. He probably just got it because he thought giant revolver are cool, never firing it before and never knew how uncomfortable it is to shoot those things. If he survives this he'll definitely gonna get another gun.
Bloodied his nose for sure, but the frame at 2:07 is conclusive that this did not knock him out, that same revolver held low from a standing position. But all told, I had to look rather close to find that.
gilgamesh310 well seeing as snake can be played to seek through a game with only his tranquilizer from mgs2 up to metal gear 5 , it can probley be implied snake has no problem doing so at all tho and has .
It's not section 9's responsibility to deal with organized crime. Their jurisdiction is limited to cyber-terrorism, ghost-hacking and foreign espionage. All those punks had to do was take him to see their boss.
+max barnett lol so he pretty much said: all you could see was your wife and child? nope. those aren't your wife and child. those are clearly the corpses of the guys who got rekt. moving on.
Batou's partner (name escapes me) is the only un-augmented human on the team if memory serves. Batou should be the 'dumb brawn' in traditional casting, but is a very intelligent person in his own right, he just revels in taking down his targets with emphasis on the down part. The major is similar, but more strategic than Batou's tactical. The characters in this series can be pretty deep at times. I have to find time to catch up after the SAC series.
As DaJuno says, his name is Togusa but he IS augmented, he does have a cyborg-brain like most people also do (while very common in setting there are plenty of people that still lack any cybernetics whatsoever)...he's just a former detective and lacks the others hardcore military hardware.
@@floydjohnson7888 The Major explains it in the anime. Togusa is well above average, but as you says has his limitations. Section 9 wants him because he has a different perspective that the rest of the team with their cyber augmentations. Diversity of opinion and not just raw capability is important as well.
@@LeblueLegume It isn't just diversity of opinion, Togusa with his minimal augmentations is also a lot more resistant to hacking due to having way less points of failure/entry
Batou, an armored, virtually un-killable battle cyborg: “I’ll go first” Togusa, a regular human: “I’ll go first, we need to shoehorn a scene about the deepness and fragility of human mortality into this film somehow”
Japanese content with guns seems to have a precision that American media lacks. It seems ironic until you realize that half of America *wants* to be ignorant about guns, while the Japanese generally have no strong feelings either way and are just keen on having accurate depictions of whatever they do.
@@bacondropped From what I understand, just pulling out their gun requires a cop to fill out multiple forms. The two of them probably had to basically write an equivalent amount to The Hobbit, to explain the massacre. 15 pages worth of that, would be explaining why they showed up with a belt fed LMG in the first place. If Hot Fuzz has taught us anything about cops, is that it involves obscene amounts of paperwork. Actual cops like Hot Fuzz is BECAUSE it actually shows them doing tedious police procedure and paperwork. More accurate to being a cop than Lethal Weapon.
That's weird. In the version I have, Togusa says "I thought you were going to avoid shooting," and Batou replies "I did...for as long as possible." I find that way funnier than "I tried, I swear!"
@@mortified0 There were two dubs, one that was technically closer to the original script and this one. I only know cause I have a DVD with both dubs (along with the original Japanese audio), that being said, on a personal note, I prefer this one.
With the risk of vision being hacked, I can’t imagine how anyone who believes violence might come into their lives would sign up for/leave such an augmentation in their brain.
It’s explained that in at least Section 9 the guys (Kusanagi had a severe medical condition that necessitated a complete cyborg body at a young age which was eventually upgraded once her active duty ended and she went to Section 9) are all former military and chose next level body modifications that were necessary because of a combination of injury and need because they are Japan’s top cybersecurity, counterterrorism and Interdiction unit. It’s kinda convoluted but that’s the best I can reckon after twenty five years of watching all the shows/series/movies 😂
@@chrisdooley1184Yeah Section 9’s abilities and hardware are way beyond your typical thug, hacker or cop and brain hacking isn’t actually that common because of how hard it is to do.
Wow, amazing. Love this anime. That guy with the big crab looking knife looks really cool. I wonder if he was just an android or a member that just went through the process of getting modified and cyberized in such a way. So interesting :D
Dalton Young same here. It felt to me like the characters and world were more fleshed out, and overall the suspense and tension were played better. But, a lot of that wouldn't have been possible without the background the original set up
I know what you guys mean; most of the movies and series focused on the Major (even S.A.C. - my fave!) And only a few episodes actually focused on the other characters!
the first gets so hih on itself it's beautiful, only to then get memed on by the second one which somehow manages to come off as technically superior, while being on par in any other aspects besides maybe the gettin hih part. yada yada my mind was blown
This has got to be my favorite scene in the entire movie after watching it, but man i love how he just fucks with Togasi, by saying ohh i won’t try shooting that much, then he just empties a whole high power entire clip on them like it’s nothing lol, but it’s not just that makes me love the scene it’s just extremely badass, and i just find it really cool how a one man army Batou, just pulls a no damage run, like when you do really well in a video game.
