There's also another myth that an army had approached to attack Scotland. They took off their shoes to sneak up on the scots, only for one of them to step on a thistle. They cried out in pain, alerting the Scots, and thus thwarting the attack. The thistle was then declared as Scotland's national flower XD

I'm definitely looking too much into this, but I noticed something. Roses tend to be symbols of beauty, not often thought of as particularly threatening. However, under the soft petals are an army of vicious thorns that WILL impale your fingers if provoked. Thistles are regarded up there with nettles as being one of the most notoriously painful weeds to the touch. However, it might have some kinda prickly leaves, but you can pick one no problemo. They're really overhyped in the weapons department in my opinion. Elizabeth, the Virgin Queen, the Bastard, who had just emerged out of a bloodbath of a fight for the throne, had a really rough time getting that throne and right now she's having a hard time keeping it. She's tired, probably at least a little paranoid and defensive of the throne, and half the population wants her dead. She only ended up with the throne by default, because everyone else killed each other. No one in their right mind thinks Elizabeth even stands a chance. Mezza, on the other hand, is powerful, badass, may or may not have blown up one of her husbands, is popular with the same percentage of the population that wants Elizabeth abdicated or dead - and right now, Mezza is under house arrest and ANGRY. Of course she's going to overthrow the feeble Elizabeth. Of course she is.
