I port chainsaws for a living and people gave me shit when I posted a clip of that saw when I first got it, as if I was suddenly anti gas powered chainsaws. I agree people feel too strongly about battery saws one way or the other. Probably bleed over from the way electric cars are being shoved down people's throats. Battery rear handles saws have a long ways to go before it's a viable option, if ever, but I can tell you I've shelved my 200t since I bought that Dewalt. (Gordys got dogs coming for it if you end up keeping it) Not having to start it in the tree, not breathing the exhaust, not having the fatigue of listening to a loud ass chainsaw a couple feet away from your face all day or while trying to communicate with your ground guys, swapping to a smaller battery for a small job actually makes the saw lighter, earlier starts, later finishes, no neighbors complaining about noise, easier to talk to RU-vid all in trade for some horsepower loss and some guys on the internet threatening to peel themselves away from the couch to come take your man card away. I'll take that deal! 😂
I am real tempted, as a homeowner who needs a chainsaw only occasionally, to go battery next time I need one. Mine died a while back. My thought is that battery saws don't have the gas go bad during prolonged storage. The carbs and fuel lines and such don't get stiff and brittle. And the batteries can be used in other tools so they'll have a fresh charge when needed.
Yeah.... the knee-jerk against EVs is a bit crazy. People complain about how dirty the battery materials are, and all the shortcomings of "green" energy. Fossil fuels have been filthy forever... Google bill gates nuclear 60 minutes. Next gen "safe" "green" nuclear will power the new world starting in about five years.
@@Kurgosh1I have a corded elec pole saw, but the little saw on the end is removable and it's a little beast. Perfect for basic homeowner stuff. Bar is maybe 10" usable but obviously you can work your cut to slay bigger pieces.
Rule #2463: Someone is always mad. Rule #321: You have a right to enjoy your property and use whatever time you can find to improve it. My area has a bylaw that says no noise before 7am and after 10pm. I told the bylaw officer who showed up while I was mowing about 10:20pm due to a call that if the neighbor who complained is willing to pay my daily income rate, then I'll skip going to work to be able to clean up my yard. Otherwise, I only have the time I have and I'm almost done. I started on it as soon as I got home, hadn't even showered or eaten dinner so that I'm not out past 11. I made a complaint saying I wish the municipality could show some backbone and tell complainers to grow up and consider moving if they don't like where they are. Bylaw officer left me alone and hasn't ever been back, though I do my part also in trying to keep noise to a minimum between said hours.
Dumbest comment ever!!!!.....I seriously DON'T care what my neighbors think, and I don't let them dictate My life.....I will rip a 100cc Saw until sundown if I need to....sometimes I'm blasting a 100w Marshall at 11pm...... If they got a problem, too bad. I got neighbors that run their Tractor at 7am, or running loud equipment, when I'm sleeping(I work evening hours)....We also got Trains nailing their Train Horns around the Clock, and it's a few hundred yards from my house, it Never stops.......I don't care....life is full of things that Don't go your way. I get along fine with All of my neighbors, they don't call me and tell me to shut up, I don't do it to them.

I got lucky. I got the Husqy 536lixp, first. What an improvement! The battery saws are the greatest improvement, in saws, in the past 50 years. There's less heat, less noise, vibration, no pull starting...
I don't cut trees for a living I trim them. But my Milwaukee pole saw and pruner are awesome for all I do on my job sites and home. I'm a Contractor so I already have Milwaukee/Dewalt batters. When we need a tree remove I call you guys for that. Not literally you guys by the time you get to Texas and back home your profits would be gone. I've only been following your channel for a couple of years now. I didn't know this kind of stuff was on RU-vid Keep it real and keep it safe, I enjoy your the videos and look forward the next ones!

All saws / tools have their value & bring essential positives & downsides to the table. Use accordingly. Keep your chains sharp & have backup tools for situations that may arise.
I like the echo battery saw. It's light and has enough power for what I want a battery saw for which limbing. It's a nice break from the noise if I get to the job early or if I just want to rock out.
Two minutes in the video and I press pause just to type this thank you for the little nugget of knowledge right there, never used the jailbreak before but this might actually really save others who are using it.

Another point in choosing the brand if you have other battery powered tools and the battery is inter changeable with the tool you are considering to purchase
I have the older Dewalt top handle. I use it for quickie cutting, pruning. But I always prefer gas. That said: For most people, if you’re Red, you’re Red. If you’re Yellow, you’re Yellow. And on, and on. It’s bloody expensive to buy into numerous ecosystems. Everything has pros and cons. Too many people will gripe about the attributes rather than actually just work. Great work as always guys.
On DeWalt: price makes it attractive. First off, it’s heavy on your wrist, but works for you once in a cut. Balance seems ok. The soft start takes some getting use to; making the chain skip instead of biting in. Battery gets hot pretty quick under load in summer temperatures. With the safety switch, do electric chainsaws need a chain brake?
Climbing Colt also gave a review on this saw and also said the throttle response is a lot slower then the huski top handle. I wanted to like the dewalt top handle as I use dewalt drills and am already invested in the batteries. But ill be using it everyday as a climbing arborist. Im torn between the 2511 because its so light and the dewalt 60v top handle.
I keep thinking about getting a second battery saw, but I invested so much DOUGH in the original battery platform and they're not interchangeable. Good job maintaining your credibility, buddy
Purchased a 14" 40V Ryobi electric saw to take in the Jeep and have used it exclusively since I've had it. Recently purchased their 18" saw for some larger logs that needed bucking. I must admit to being pleasantly surprised with the performance of the battery saws. Bonus, no hearing protection required.
I agree. Non professional and I used the same saw today to cut up and get the debris off the road of a 60 ft Co-dominant oak that split. Started at 7 am and was done by 10 am. I was rather impressed.
Some jobs require the most powerful tool available. But some certainly don't. I think in recent years both employers and employees have realized that employee health does matter. There is something to be said about the decreased weight, noise, comfort, not having as much vibration and exhaust gas etc. Ultimately this'll lead to less health issues and accidents. Nobody is trying to take away gas tools. But most of the time you don't need them.
I tried out a neighbor's Stihl last year, it was great to just pull the trigger and cut with no hearing protection. The down side for me is the cost of battery replacement when they age out. I've ended up with multiple power tools over the years because I can buy a new drill kit with charger and all for the price of just replacing batteries.
I have the EGO. Works really well once it gets broken in on a chain. And that's my bitch. Uses a special light gauge chain that keeps stretching out and derailing every few cuts. But it takes half the chain life to get there. Glad to hear you like the Milwaukee. When I got serious about my power tools, I went with Team Red. Helps reinforce that I made the right choice. I agree that the Husqvarna is the best of the battery saws. One distinct advantage of the battery saw where August is that he can complete jobs during fire season that he might otherwise have to pass up with a gas saw. Dewalt tools are strictly home owner grade.
I use a Makita 36 volt top handle 16 inch bar. Got it for the convenience, price, and utilizing batteries I already had. I use farmer tech full chisel. Cuts awesome! I also wish it had more power from zero. If you stop cutting it doesn't do well getting started again. You do get used to it, and learn to compensate for it. Given that August commented similarly with this saw, I thought that DeWalt looks like it did a little better with starting /stoping in the cut. Common issue with any brushless power tool. You have to take the good with the bad and develop new habits to compensate.
Hey August, it was a bit ironic to see Jeff in this video, since he just put out a video with his opinion against battery saws😅. Anyway great work! I was waiting for some of those last logs to slam into the trunk of the other tree you were rigging from at the end after setting a retrievable ring to "save the bark" but it looked like you guys were able to keep it pretty smooth and not impact the other tree hardly.
I have the DeWalt 20 inch 60V. DCCS677Y1 Cuts really good. Unfortunately the battery overheats after maybe 5 minutes of cutting. Not sure if it’s a bad battery or what. Needless to say it’s going back and I’m getting a gas chainsaw.
Hi, August. I am learning a lot from your content, and like to say thank you for making it all. I'm i'd guess what you call a lower middle class guy that has a lot of tree work to be done on the property i live on and the property i hope to move my family onto in the next year or two. I've spent 12 years at a landscaping company in the past. Im slowly buying what i need week by week. i've got myself a 150ft samson climb rope, prussics, some petzl beans and some pulleys and have been doing some DRT-MRS (whatever ya wanna call it) climbing low and slow getting the feel. next up is some gaffs and wire flipline. then maybe a 355T for a top handle option (would you recommend anything different for the 350-400 range?). Also im curious, because it looks like what you did, do you climb the whole tree to set your climb line first then repel down and work the thing back up? Again, thank you for sharing your craft. Thanks to you and a few others ill be able to get some work done with confidence. At 33 years old and a father of 3 paying someone isn't in the budget. Cheers from NE Pennsylvania
Good video brothers. My only concern with investing in battery saws is how long until they upgrade the battery and will the new batteries integrate with the older tools. DeWalt completely changed on me once nobody likes the cost of batteries these days
Callem cleats in the boat world. Fun fact this occupation goes hand in hand with sailing. Think about it, boats were made out of trees, a mast is essentially a spar which you would have to rig down not just drop it to the ground. You are trusting your life with the sturdiness of boat made of trees afterall. Bow ( like wow, stern)line, knots, ropes etc.
Perhaps the Jailbrake could incorporate a jam cleat, like you find on a sailboat. You could then try a lesser level of friction (restraint) on the device.

August I hadn't thought about the fire hazard gas v.s. electric but the electric tools I have (Husky top handles and electric polesaw) have allowed me to work for folks when we really had to keep the noise down - one couple in particular was a lady who took cancer meds in the AM when her husband left for work and then went back to sleep until noon/ 1:00 PM. By afternoon I was chunking stemwood and they were very appreciative of how quietly we were able togo about our business adjacent to the house in the AM. They're just a tool in the toolbox though. I come down on the side that developing a battery saw for cutting 30" diam Doug Fir stems - really? Sorta like an electric pickup for towing a 26' sterndrive boat thru the mountains - really? As an early adopter of all this stuff somewhat I do find I've entered a phase where keeping track of battery types and whats charged and what's not has become a job in an of itself. So standardizing maybe is a good thing if you get into electric further. Keep up the videos and thanks. Cheers (and still rockin' my trusty old New Tribe MB Ver 1.0).
That DeWalt has the most bearable machine sound of all that I've heard so far. Does the model you used have a 14" bar? I have a battery DeWalt w/ 12" bar. Blade sharpening is super critical even for homeowner level work. I got a good deal on multiple batteries and a charger, so I"m happy. Climb safe.
I love putting a smaller bar on any saw. You're really cuttin' when you have a 20" on a 461 or a 25" on the 660. Same with minis, 12" bar vs. a 14" makes a big difference.
I remember you "made" a battery saw with the battery on your waist belt.....whatever happened to that?still a good idea in your opinion?or is the battery weight no big deal on these newer saws,or? Thanks for all your videos, and sharing your knowledge and experience.
Here is why I stick with one brand and ignore 90% of these "reviews" - Not ONE reviewer ever talks about parts and service and if you use any complex tools like a chainsaw or hedge trimmer or mower or you will need parts and service. And guess what, there are only two brands that have complete parts and service - Stihl and Huskvarna with Stihl leading by a huge margin. I have 3 gas saws and two electrics and they are all Stihl. I have taken the cheap road in that past and bought the Big Box store brand and all of them (3) have broke and all of them have NO service parts, and nothing is worse that a saw break when you have a tree across your driveway and no parts to fix it. In 15 years of Stihl I have had exactly one breakage and that has been the chain sprocket which was in stock at the local Ace hardware. Really, people, think for a change on how you use these tools and what would happen if it breaks in an emergency. It is true, Stihl is the most expensive but also the most reliable and I also own the battery string trimmer and leaf blower and all have worked flawlessly for many years. You have guys like Project Farm reviewing tools only based on one small set of tests, never showing the long term use of same. I f I could sum it up in one short sentence it would be this: "Cheap always breaks" As for August Hunicke I love this channel but would REALLY like a video on chipper use and maintenance. I have my own chipper/shredder and blades and flails are expensive and hard to replace so it would be nice to see how the pro's do it and what they think about it. Also, August, DON'T sell the Axe, you will regret it later on down the line as it is the best chipper out there and will be very expensive to replace as you have mentioned. My favorite parts of your videos are the rope knots and speed line techniques as I do solo tree work and am always interested in safer ways to trim and drop branches.
My opinion on battery saws is I never used one so I cant actually give an opinion. I am a firm believer if you never tried it or do not own one you don’t have the right to give an opinion. But from what I have seen they definitely seem like they have gotten better and better over the years.
Every time I clean my saws and I take the chain off I start the saw up and I run it for a minute to get the chain heated up and stretched out and then I retighten the chain and then I never have issues
I have two battery hedge trimmers one is a sthil and the other is a ego hedge trimmer and they can do alot of work on one full battery 😁 and I know that the petrol powered tools are great in there own right 😉
does anyone else consatnlty forget to add bar oil in your electic tophandles...ive even wrote on saws remember to add oil and i still forgot more often than not
Usually you just gotta show your mustard on the job site while being a groundy for a while, then eventually somebody lets you climb. From there the sky's the limit.

I don’t care who says what, I have seen proof time and time again that Milwaukee is better as de walt. Also I like red more as yellow so Milwaukee also looks better in my opinion
Quieter so thieves can’t hear you as much! Start earlier and better for noise sensitive areas such as hospitals where I used to work. No pull cords aswell that’s about best thing 🤣 click a button and off you go!

People worry that gas saws will throw sparks into the brush and start a fire. Many guys run gas saws with no spark arrestor. A chipper out on the street isn't the same as a saw in the brush.
Seemed like it cut fine. At first I didn't like the slower ramp up of the velocity, but it's probably a good safety measure. Electric motors can give full torque/power instantaneously, which may be just a tad too quick. Cost can also be a factor... 🤣
