Absolutely lost for words on this one! I wish history had been taught to me like this! I just can't wrap my head around what these guys must have been going through out there at sea. True bad asses if you ask me!

love the battle 360 series! one of my favorites, thanks for the reaction! Another cool one to check out is by another RU-vid creator, Battle of Midway 1942: Told from the Japanese perspective by Montemayor. It's a 3 part series that shows what the Japanese were facing with the 'fog of war' so you get to see the decisions that were made from the Japanese side and why the strikes were so effective from the US...

Very good reaction. Yes maybe it seems a bit"hyped" or dramatized, but as long as the facts are correct, i dont really mind. Imagine being on one of those ships, islands or planes,... i know for a fact the drama and tension is way way worse. The dramatisation is just a way to give us a little piece of the buttock-clenching experience this must have been. It is done in an American way, but you guys checked out the "Greatest Raid" narated by Clarkson as well, it is the same but in a brittish way. These events deserve captivating storytellers like these😊👍. Thanks for brushing up our history knowledge Daniel

The 5 destroyers that were escorting her stayed by _Yorktown's_ side until the very end. When she finally succumbed to her wounds in the dawn hours of June 7th, 1942, she fell into her grave under the salutes of every sailor on the destroyers, who stood like solemn sentinals, their colors lowered to half mast. The men sorrowfully but faithfully manned the rails and held their attention, paying their final respects to the gallant carrier, the first and nameship of her class who came through for her country when it desperately needed her despite her damage from Coral Sea. One sailor wrote, "Waltzing Matilda had seemed as much a great lady as a great ship to many of her crewmen, and her death throes at 0600 seemed almost human. She uttered a sighing sound and rolled over, her tumbling loose gear making a death rattle. Then she sank in two thousand fathoms..."

American torpedoes during World War II were just atrocious. Be at the four submarines, the aerial torpedoes, or even shipborne torpedoes. There was a whole mess wrong with them. But the bureau of ordinance said that there was nothing wrong with the torpedoes. If you want to have more information on the torpedo issues, watch Drachinfel’s video on the American type 14 torpedoes of World War II. That made me so mad. Another video to have a look at is the fat electrician video on ramage’s rampage. Sadly, the Yorktown would be torpedoed later by a Japanese submarine, sinking it. However, by that time, most of the planes and personnel had, in fact, been moved to other ships. So while there was some loss of life, it wasn’t overwhelming Also, I have a couple of videos for you that you might find interesting. It is a set of three the first two are from the Japanese perspective and it’s from the battle of midway from the Japanese perspective. The third one is the battle of midway from the American perspective. They are from montemayor’s channel. They also have other battles like Pearl Harbor and Savo Island.

I believe that, besides the slowness of those torpedo bombers, the torpedos themselves had a design flaw that was not fully realized until much later.

If you watched the movie Midway, there is a scene (that happened in real life) where a junior officer beat one of the Japanese fleet admirals in a Midway battle sim/war game by placing his carriers in the EXACT spot where they actually appeared. He was admonished for doing so because “it was impossible” that the Americans knew they were coming. The fleet admiral in question was not Yamamoto though.

Just a bit on information that the documentary missed: 1. The first to attack the Japanese fleet at Midway was Army Air Corp stationed at Midway with their TBF Avengers, B-17s and B-26s which was the reason why USS Nautilus saw the Anti-Aircraft fire. 2. During the Battle of the Coral Sea USS Yorktown was also heavily damaged but was lucky fixed in 72 hours. 3. The reason why the Japanese carriers were easily destroyed was because they were rearming and refueling their aircrafts that attacked Midway earlier.

After this series, History Channel did "Battle 360" that followed the exploits of Patton from North Africa to his death after the War. You might want to check that out too.

You spoke of what ifs, there is one big one I always think of, and that is, "What if Japan had joined Germany in fighting the Soviet Union?" That was part of the reason Germany declared war on America. Japan had,at least, hinted that they would attack the U.S.S.R. thus opening a second front and forcing the Soviet to split its resources and not just focus on Germany. With Britain being in a weakened state by that time the results could have created real problems for the Allies.

the video mentioned coordination problems and that was not more true for the first two torpedo squadrons because the fighter squadrons didn't show up in time to take on the Zero's. One thing the video didn't mention was USS Yorktown had already been severely damaged at the battle of Coral Sea. Estimated repair time was two weeks and Admiral Nimitz ordered around the clock repairs and Yorktown was patched up and sailing to meet Enterprise and Hornet 48 hours later. Station Hipo on Pearl Harbor led by Cmdr Joseph Rochfort was the code breaking station that told Nimitz what the Japanese plan was

"US planes sucked ass" Yeah and it wasn't just the planes, it was also weapons like torpedoes. You have to remember, the US at the beginning of the war was the underdog and Japan was the reigning champion. The US was reeling from the effects of the Depression and so the military was underfunded. Imperial Japan, in contrast, had been pillaging their way across Asia so their military was battle hardened and modern. Side note: If you'd like to know more about how crazy this battle (and other battles) was, I suggest the videos by @Montemayor Channel and @TheOperations room.

I always thought that was pretty stupid Fighting a world war proves your generation has achieved nothing but regression and idiocy That said, they certainly were built different to be willing to go through that hellish landscape that a global war is Im just pointing out aint nothing great about a world war nor the people making it happen, hopefully this makes people realize how stupid it was and that "the greatest generation" also refers to other countries than America who kind of started it (ie; Germany and Japan for example)

There's nothing grandiose about these videos they started this war and we finished it, it's not hype maybe if you were there you would understand that...makes me nauseous to see you or anyone making stupid comments on here and apologizing or "downplaying" the actions and bravery of the American troops in that crazy war that we were pulled into in the first place.

If you're going to take the military videos "with a huge grain of salt" as you say....why do you watch them and say "lets learn"..... doesn't make sense. Why are people always trying to "put America down"??
@WreckedNation01

Never putting The United States down ever. Just saying from first hand experience that things that are cleared to be told sometimes are different if even a bit to how it actually unfolded. Not taking away from the story's credibility about World War 2 but the history channel itself i tend to have issues with.
