Battle Brothers Is One of the Best RPG's of All Time 

this is a game where you can feel on top of the world and have 11 men covered head to toe in chain mail and plate armor, win a fight against 40 well armed brigands and win. to later losing all your mercs to a pack of wolves you encounter on the road while escorting a trader to a city.

This is one of those games where I go, damn it this game is so hard rage quit and then come back like 5 minutes later and play again.

I have 670 hours in this game, absolutely love it. The learning curve is steep, but once you get used to geting your ass kicked it becomes one of the best indies out there

Battle Brothers is, in fact, really awesome. The learning curve is kind of a fibonacci circle that goes over your own head and makes you fall back where you started, over, and over, forever.

100%! And the books are fun reads too! One thing that helped me get over the frustration of the early game was allowing myself to save scum. It's ok. I get attached to my bros and I want the story to continue with them. Cut yourself some slack as you learn the game. I've bought this game about 6 times over as I have gifted it to a few friends. It never clicked with them sadly, and I think it's the steep learning curve and the harsh combat, but I do not regret sharing the game with them.

Death is just another path... One that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass... And then you see it, the title screen and you start a new game! Good times! Love Battle brothers.

Tried this one recently after the last video you made on it. Still learning it but I have to say this has been a joy to play for the short amount of time I've put into it. The soundtrack is also great and definitely worth picking up if, like me, you're into that kind of thing. This is definitely a game that you could play for years and years which makes picking it up a great investment. It's also on sale quite often on Steam so its a no-brainer.

If you don’t know what Battle Brothers is…it’s a game that repeatedly kicks you in the nuts until you fall over, and then you get up and can’t wait for it to do it again.

One correction. Temporary injuries are not cause by being damaged under a certain threshold of hp, but by taking a certain %of your hp in one hit. So buffing your hp also reduces the chance of these temp injuries because it takes more to damage to equal that percentage (25% iirc). And of course perks like cripling strike lower the amount of damage needed, and the scimitar and shamshir each have a move that does the same, meaning you can inflict a nasty injury with fairly minor wounds if you buff it enough.

The way that this game rewards good tactics and punishes bad is like few others. Just tonight I took on a nomad encampment with a leader and a few outlaws that would have been a challenging but reasonable fight normally, except there were ifriti that came down from the north and went after both sides. We ended up retreating and only one guy made it back alive. I tried it a second time, but this time I positioned my lines so the nomads were sandwiched between the ifriti and us. We won without losing a single guy. The only bad part was that the nomad leader’s armor and 2h scimitar were both lost so the loot was mediocre. But man, what a great example of what makes this game what it is, frustrating but fun.

Cant believe its 6 years old already.. really wanted a sequel but the studio behind it is creating a completely new game which I am also looking forward to and with Wartales coming out this year it's like getting a sequel anyway.

Battle Brothers is the game that originally brought me to your channel in like 2012 or 2013. I searched for gameplay for this cool looking game I saw on Steam and found you. Still my favourite game of all time and my favourite RU-vidr/Streamer. I play it for around 100 hours once every year since then and it never gets boring.

It's suppose to be the biggest update yet. Cooking, new contract bosses, and an updated map system are all going to be in the next update!

20:40 Sundering Shields is a double edged play; while yes, you decrease the targets defense, you also force them to 2on1 (double grip) their main-hand weapon, which increases their attack.

Battle Brothers was one of those games that I just loved from the first minute. The atmosphere, music, sounds and writing is superb.

One of my favorites of all time. I hate how random it is and I frequently leave it for months at a time, but I also always come back.

4600 hours played since 2015 early access. Its still one, if not, my most fav game of all time. with the legends mod it brings depths x10000 even more.

I used to go back and watch Total Biscuit every time a game went on sale, to see his review/impression, however 1st impressions can change after several years and several updates. An 'updated' impression can be super-helpful. It would be nice to see you do this on a regular basis with all of your more popular, older games.

Prospective players keep in mind: There IS *a difficulty setting*, and there's no shame in playing on easy! You can specify if you just want an easier economy (cheaper wages/prices, better loot/rewards), or combat. It can still be hard because of the RNG gods, the wounds system, and the first few times you play you might learn some hard lessons on how the economy works, what fights you can win, and when to retreat.

I just got this game for Christmas, thanks for making this video because i had no idea it existed before i watched it. I'm already 20 hours in, it's such a good game.

Almost 900 hours in this game, I had lot of fun times with it and also lot of hard combats & situations so I recommend it too if you like difficult RPGs. I haven't finished it completely 100%, because each run takes a long time and I don't have time to finish it anymore but I'm happy with where I've reached so far (about 90% trophies).

Personal recommendation, if you want to learn a lot about this game you need to try the Lone Wolf start. I’d smashed my head against the learning curve with multiple failed starts, not really understanding how relationships, backgrounds, gear, trade, or what enemies to look out for and handle. But when you play Lone Wolf you learn a lot about the importance of positioning, stats, perks, and how to build a group up. Lone Wolf and Peasant Militia are two of the best starts in my opinion. Late game Lone Wolf squads feel insanely powerful (even though I struggle hitting the 12 man cap)

Yep 708 hrs here, its a wonderful game and ill play it for more years to come. I love it so much i put it with my other favourite games like Fallout 2 and Heroes of might and magic 3

It sucks that there's no new games to play, but I have really been digging the past couple of days that Splat has gone back to some "older" games he liked. I wouldn't mind him continuing with it even when new games are released. Maybe "Throwback Thursday" or something like that. He does play older games on stream sometimes, but as someone who doesn't really watch streams, I'd prefer YT videos, but I'm here for whatever.

One of my favorites of all time. Love the Legends mod after a couple hundred hours in vanilla.

I had a guy that had 4 or 5 permanent injuries; missing a finger, nasty scar, even brain damage. But the dude just would not stay down. I kept putting him in the most dangerous parts of the line. It was ludicrous! Great game.

I had a like 30-40 hour playthru in 2016 or 2017 that ended perfectly. Wasn’t compelled to ever play again. Downloaded all the DLC, insane all the new flavor it added.

277 hours and yes, this game is really good. Once you get past the early game with bad gear and low lvl mercs to mid game with decent gear and your mercs can actually hit stuff, this game will become very addictive. It's very satisfying to se enemy heads fly :)

I remember Total Biscuit playing this game. Feels like it was just last year... Sorry, I just felt blue all of the sudden and had to unload it. The game's brilliant and I'm always happy for it getting more coverage. Here's hoping you'll remind people about Sword of the Stars: The Pit (another awesome game that late TB got me into).

I think the RNG adds to the realism. Every soldier knows that you can't count on luck, but luck still counts. This isn't a fairy tale where the hero is decked out in shining plot armor and all it takes to persevere through the most dangerous trials is to remain faithful to some noble code of chivalry. You can discover a recruit of epic talent, diligently train him up to max level, making him the stuff of legend with all the best gear and all the best perks, carefully strategizing your formation and exploiting the terrain to it's fullest advantage, taking a weaker foe by surprise and making absolutely every tactical decision right. . . and then suddenly the enemy hits that miracle shot, putting an arrow through your eye as your story comes to an abrupt an ignominious end, leaving behind no inspiring saga of bravery and skill that will be sung by bards for generations, but just another pile of moldering bones laying forgotten in the dispassionate forest. Such is the mercenary life.

Yeah, BB is truly a phenomenal game, and no two playthroughs are even remotely similar.

I've tried getting into this game for months but it's honestly just too difficult for me. Love the atmosphere, the dark fantasy of it with the different monsters and stuff. The art style and prose and music, it's all right up my alley but at the end of the day I can't stand how brutally hard it is. Will always watch Splat talk about it though.

Nifty. So with the individual stories, it's got a little of the emergent gameplay element that drives stuff like RimWorld, Dwarf Fortress, and to a lesser extent Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead.

One of my favorite indie games

This quickly became my absolutely favorite game ever. From afar it might seem annoying or boring but as you run about in the world and get into battles it is amazing. I promise you the game is not as rough as some of these reviews will tell you. On top of all of this, it’s sound track is literally on par with the likes of that like the Witcher!

There isn't a lot going on for releases, but there are a TON of sales between GOG and Steam. Some stuff is really discounted too.

I have nearly 500 hours in this game and I hold myself to play other things because there aren't many games out there as good and as addictive as BB. And if it didn't have enough content, we still have some amazing mods, like Legends, that bring so much to the game and give us a new experience inside the same gameplay. I know that you don't review mods, but this one would be worth it. Anyway, great vid as usual! \o/

Wasn't sure if this game will be for me but hearing you love on it so much has me interested to give it a good solid investment. Especially the bit about the writing. I was waiting for Stone Shard to flesh out a bit or even hit 1.0 but damn it's moving so slowly I"m not sure I'll be around for it ;)

This game is great. Not only is there build variety, but there is also playstyle variety. It all depends on your staring settings and characters.

I love this game, I was definitely one of the people that was annoyed by this game at first. Before they did some balancing Easy was stupid easy and Normal was stupid hard. They have since fixed that and made something truly enjoyable, and frustrating at the same time.

Battle Brothers is an amazing game, and if you think you might be interested in it after watching Splatty play it a bit, you should absolutely try it yourself. I would not say that I'm a gamer who particularly enjoys turn based games, but it turns out that Battle Brothers is one of my favorite games of all time. The writing and lore is great, gritty, and is always a joy to read. The artwork isn't for everyone off the bat, but IMO the lack of realism (and legs) is an artistic asset; it is perfect to give you just enough detail to invoke your imagination. Also, people don't point this out enough, but a game's sound and music can be so immersive if done well--and battle brothers does it oh so well. You can hear the gritty detail when slicing an enemy in two with a two-handed axe; decapitating zombies sounds gruesome; there's a crippling thump when you whack an orc with a two-handed hammer. And then there's the music. Hats off to the artist (Breakdown Epiphanies), who it turns out made not only a thematically matching ost, but went so far as to pick instruments that actually matched the enemies you're battling. Raider music has lightweight instruments in it that could be easily carried on the go, orcs have lots of drums and deep brass, village music features a guitar with hand-picked notes. AND they came back for every expansion with more excellently thematic tracks. There's just so much detail to the sound of Battle Brothers, and it blends together seamlessly to immerse you in gameplay. Speaking of gameplay, it's excellent. There's so many ways you can build a brother--the customizability is exceedingly deep, yet simple enough that you can manage doing so for a roster of 20. Battles are fairly quick and often challenging, but your strategy will absolutely make or break your band of mercenaries as they are matched up against countless, diverse enemies day after day. Splatty spent a lot of time showing the gameplay so I'll leave it at this: the game is hard, the mechanics are complex, and your freedom to make choices without any hand-holding all combine to make compelling gameplay with excellent replayability. I wrote a glowing steam review for Battle Brothers as I passed 1400 hours, thinking the game clearly deserved one. Today I looked again. I have played over 5,000 hours of this gem of a game, and I have no idea how it happened, but honestly... I'm not surprised. The title of the video says it's one of the best of all time, and Splatty isn't clickbaiting. Give it a shot; you won't regret it.

Battle Brothers is the game that made me understand the fear of the undead. A enemy who never feels fear. A enemy who never gets tired. A enemy who never bleeds. Truly terrifying, I love it

Man I’m over 600 hours in and undead send me running for the hills, once I had nearly 4000 gold and thought I was rich! Never passed day 65, I see I have a lot to learn.

100% i have like 700 hours in this and it never gets old.

I think my main gripe with the game is the world generation; it's very hard to get seeds with good town placement. But with all the expansions and everything, it went from a good game to amazing I can't wait for a second iteration of the game where they might tweak the game combat mechanics. What I believe would be cool is to have more to do than just "run to the enemies" and bonk them in formation over and over and over again except in exotic fights with less common but rough monsters. (I really believe the game would be well suited for Warhammer Fantasy universe)

One of my favorite games of all time

I'm liking the student, colossus, nine lives, backstabber on a few polearms with higher attack in the back, but I think going rotation before steel brow on all but I guess, the "3" main tanks, would of been better for the stronghold quest clustering and earlier designated roles and losing my last guy. I was watching myrmidon or something like that, do well early in a short with like 7 or 8 pitchforks and some good shield walling though? Even though my 7 shields is too many for day 51, and better at 3-5 shields, still like keeping the front row stacked for first turn hits unlike alot of players with shields in the front, they'll shoot out to the far sides every once in a while though? At least with my 47-2 star ranged attack militia man, I'm not even worried about rolling on poachers and 1,000 gp hunters anymore; not that my one in a hundred 55-3 star ranged attack hunter a few games ago wasn't nice. I'll tell ya I'm definitely not doing this southern 2 skull monster quest that's probably snakes, I'll probably get a good split one of these days though. One of the good ways to make early money that I figured out is the early southern 1 skull monster quests with 2 weak guys that they chase if there's a militia around like in the south, that comes up sometimes, got going with a couple fights right from the first city this run, rather than running around until I get caught by wolves or ambushed eventually usually anyway. Like shrats, barbarian kings, and greenskins usually chase I've heard I think. The snakes would probably at least go better with 12 dogs with the traders, before I get 10k and then the banner and sash for 11 dogs though, lol. I think my 2 star killer on the run with +15% head hit damage, will still be good with a 2 handed flail and rotate, even though it's one of the few weapon sets without a reach option I think. It was definitely hard to go back to companions after death and how expensive everything was and only being on day 51 so far, lol. I'm feeling good about this team with leveling a thief, militia men, and 10 gold a day farmers; without feeling like I'm missing as much without more ranged and noblemen this time after awhile, not that this new 6 gold a day graverobber on the 4 man bench doesn't look as hearty as a farmer though? And definitely my last early haunted cemetary and not brigand quest with how painful that last ancient legionaire battle was, though the brigand strongholds in the forest can be better with rotation.
