Oof. I'm Horde to the core, but Anduin's theme is enough to fill me with Alliance patriotism. And then Saurfang's theme jolts me right back to my own side. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Wrynn's theme gives me chills every time. I've become so invested in Anduin's story as I've grown up along side him, I'm only a couple years older then his canonical age. And to be honest, my philosophical journey mirrors his as well.
Oh yes, very clever Blizzard. Glad you pointed that out Sideways. Good show! [Actually has no idea what’s going on and is guessing it has something to do with leitmotif].
Jaina's theme is another that just blows me away every time. She sort of has 2 now, the 'Jaina Homeland/Theramore' theme, and 'Daughter of the Sea', both used to amazing effect throughout Battle for Azeroth in various places.
I was wondering when you'd make something on this. Motifs, man. I'm especially fond of Saurfang's, it's so simple, two notes to start with a sliding glissando, then a resolution found in the notes to come. I'm so excited to see where the story goes. #noshouldersforoldsoldiers
Was lucky to play in a concert with one of this game's composers (Neil Acree) conducting when I was seventeen. I'm not a fan of the games, but the music is great!
oh my God i found you today and I've been binging your videos. I LOOOOOOOVE music and how it's being used to represent something and I have literally no one to talk to about it haha. one of my favourites is probably used in Starcraft 2 where they established a "Love Theme" and you can hear it mixed in cutscene and cinematic tracks and you only ever hear it completely when HOTS credits roll.
Have you guys ever noticed the theme song for Dazar Alor has that pedal point on 'D' then the chords over the top are: dminor-aminor-dminor-aminor etc changing with each note of the melody. The music is literally spelling out "Dazar Alor" :) It's not only an epic sounding theme, but this little tid bit really tickles me.
Hey Sideways, I just want to let you know your channel is amazing. My music theory teacher in high school actually played your Sight Singing and Ear Training video and that was super cool since I’ve been subbed for a long time now. Keep up the great work!
Idk if you're into the show Attack on Titan, but it would be pretty cool to see a video on Sawano's music if you were, especially how the Ape Titan theme is used.
Did anyone else notice that the song that plays when the Horde starts their charge in thw BFA cinematic is the theme song established for Grommash in WoD?
I think one of the best Blizzards soundtracks is Heart of the Swarm. Yeah and you can't just ignore the similarities between Protoss and Night elf motive. :D (I heard a lot, I know.)
Could you do a video on the purpose of music in Ken Burns’ documentaries? I’m a huge fan of the channel and the soundtracks and it would be incredible to have both in tandem. Thanks for your attention!
Yo man this is really obscure but I watched your 4 chords video and I thought it’d be neat if you took a look at “The Prophet’s Song” by Queen. A little more than half way through you get this amazing a cappella part with all 4 of them on it.
Dude could you do God of War soundtrack (old vs new) Especially after the new one I could definitely feel the story from the music. All the realms have distinct sounds and when something Greek related happens I feel like a more mature version of the older games is heard. Think you might have fun dissecting it :)
Hi Sideways! Can you check out the Detective Pikachu trailer? People are noticing that the Pokemon battle theme and Happy Together harmonize. Do you think it's a coincidence?
This music is by Neal Acree and the song of the first clip that you hear is called "Azeroth's Last Hope". Unfortunately, the music for the other cinematics shown have not been released yet.
Sorry, I made a mistake. The music for the second clip is also by Neal Acree and is called "What Makes Us Strong". The other music, though, still hasn't been released.
Prediction: he'll like the don't forget motifs as the recurring main theme, really like what the game does with Lancer's Theme, appreciate the continuity with Gaster's Theme but be confused at it not clearly representing anything in this game And then if the full game releases with an obligatory Megalovania he'll be mad and the entire soundtrack is total garbage
I don't like these "cinematic themes"... they're bombastic, etc... but i forget them immediately after hearing them. and they're everywhere in orchestral music these days... I wish they'd go back to basics again. I wish they'd worry less about the orchestral soundscapes, sounding big, and more about making absolutely sure the piece/theme/idea works with a single instrument (piano, guitar, solo violin etc.) so well that it would be perfect song just as is... and then make the orchestration etc. around it to make that great and wonderful theme or song into something bigger. It's easy to sound huge with tools of today without really saying anything at all...
Blizzard and thematic music? Their franchises ran for so long they have to recycle their music. A call to arm appears in Jaina’s theme, some legion tunes have temple of the moon theme etc...
