Combat flight video 94: The Battle for Cherbourg
This is the third chapter of the scripted campaign "Operation Overlord". I had to fly a support mission to take back the city of Cherbourg three weeks after D-Day. There is a LOT going on in this video. On the ground there is are armored vehicles fighting to get into the city. Overhead dozens of aircraft are dropping bombs and strafing the German positions and vehicles. Towards the end several Messerschmitts arrive to take on the P47s and P51 Mustangs.
I am flying a P51B of the 354th Fighter Group, one of the first units to get the P51. This is why they were called the "Pioneer Mustang Group". This is part of "IL-2 Sturmovik's" game "Battle of Normandy"
