Truly a sound not matched any where else on Earth. You don't see a couple thousand of the planet's finest brass players playing any song in one place every day.
That much power is too much for one person to have! Probably a good 1000 of the best marchers in the world playing the exact thing at the exact same time. WOWZERS
You took the words right out of my mouth. I watch this so many times and I get the EXACT same reaction every time. I get to watch it live for the first time in a few days and I just cant wait to experience the best concert in the world. I am always at lost for words when I watch these guys online.
MOOT1927 Because they think stuff like this is the reason drum corps got stale and was in decline, so gradually all the traditional stuff went in the shredder. At one point, Full Olympic Retreat was at the end of every show. Finals night included corps playing each other off the field with their show music, until the only corps left was the champion.
So true. I love the boomyness of it, and the energy is unreal. I was there semifinals night and couldn't even hold my camera still because of the goosebumps I was getting. Unforgetable experience. :)
I love how simple yet affective older DCI was especially PR. To me the best part of any show is when the band is just simply standing and playing the music. Now there’s just so much going on it’s kinda hard to enjoy it.
they only have to move a fraction of an inch in the right spot to make that happen. I imagine they are standing pretty still if you were to look from up close even.
i don't know how many did this...but i know when i marched that year, we didn't really touch up on this song. we maybe rehearsed it like less than 5 times total
The 2006 DCI Fanfare was far better.. It was the loudest damn thing I ever heard in my life. I think I still suffer some hearing loss from it today. Many folks coming out of the stands thought it was over the top, yes it was that loud. you can still find it on RU-vid I believe.
Yes I know I'm 4 years late, but I don't care. It stopped after 2013 because of a combination of things. 1 - was timing; pre-2019 they used to march in / announce the corps one by one, which stretched it out by 30-45 extra minutes. It was taking waaay too long to walk out 1 by 1, set down your stuff down, make the block and wait for the scores to come. 2 - was that in Lucas Oil, sound bounces around the entire can, so hearing little details was very noticeable. Meaning, that if someone goofed around during America the Beautiful (thanks Blue Knights), everyone would hear it. 3 - someone above me already mentioned it but DCI felt that stuff like this is the reason drum corps got stale and was in decline, so gradually all the traditional stuff went in the shredder.
Ya, I was in the very front playing it. We had like 5 minutes to memorize it. Lol..Pretty much everyone was making up parts..I don't know about other corps. The lower corps probably had time, because let's face it...They knew they weren't making finals.
Don't the corps always end up back in Indy for finals? I may be wrong but I was under the impression that drum corps had strong roots here....that's why they closed the season at Lucas Oil......
+Jc C It changed a few years ago from Indiana University to Lucas Oil and a few years ago I think it was in Colorado (could be wrong on that one). But I believe Lucas Oil just promised to host finals until 2026, when they'll probably renegotiate the contract.
+Martin Carnahan it changed year to year. 2007, in Pasadena CA was the last year before they moved to IU(2008), and later Indy(2009). Before that, it was Madison WI (2006), Foxborough/Brockton MA (2005), Denver CO(2004)...
Wow... I is old. I marched in 2006. We had World Championships in Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, WI. Camp Randall was considered the Mecca of Drum Corps until this. Actually a lot of people hated the move to Lucas Oil because of the echo originally.
I have great respect for all the performers among DCI, but I really miss the days of "America O Canada" at the finale. I don't like many of these new arrangements. Just doesn't have the same feeling for me.
whenever you see the twinkling in the marching band when they are standing still that means they are moving which in marching band terms is super bad but other wise their sound was super good
