10 minutes! Katie, this old Yankee Boy could listen to you for hours. You're so knowledgeable and have great elocution, not to mention that great accent. My grand father (7th generation) died at Valley Forge in 1778. He was from Southborough, Mass. He was 59 and had 13 kids but still fought with his son, another of my grandfathers alongside him. Everywhere I travel people always ask me about my New England accent. It is nice to hear yours.

This history is unknown to modern children. Pity that they understand so little about their own country.

After this battle, it became obvious that we Americans were not going to be the pushovers the less imformed Britain thought we would be. It was going to be a long nasty fight before we won our independence.

What lovely land. Good weather, old history, water, and green trees. Massachusetts seems magical.

You're a great history buff. Grew up in Concord, Mass. from 1965-1972 back in the day. Walked where Henry David Thoreau wrote about Like your tour and history informing the past. Went to North Bennet Street School in the North End of Boston 1975-76 when renovation on the waterfront. Miss what I was able to remember which has all changed. All good experiences I treasure in my mind. I have been living in Barnstead N.H. these past 42 years living in a Revolutionary war veterens house and been restoring the house and gardens. Rev. Nathaniel Adams. Johns younger brother built the first stick built house and church in this town when every one else still living in log cabins. The church is still standing with the grave yard. History is fascinatining . Selectman Edward Tasker here in town is a direct decendant and lives in the same house his ancestors Tasker. lived and the first 4 Town Meetings where were held back after the Revolution. All your podcasts are great to watch.

Thank you for this video. I’ve visited the Battle of Bunker Hill monument several times. I remember as a kid my dad occasionally driving us out to Boston, from Western Mass, to see the Red Sox play. On those trips we’d also stop to see the monument as well as the the USS Constitution, down in the Charlestown Navy Yard. My dad like to stop at every plaque or engraving he could find and have me and my siblings take turns reading them out loud.

Had ancestors fight on that hill. Great to see. Thanks!

Hey Katie thankyou so much !!!!!So it appears it is and was common practice to totally decimate a city in warfare. We see that today in Ukraine and Gaza. That is Gaza city and other areas along with Bhakmut and Adivka in Ukraine. Once the dogs of war are released yes havoc does prevail. Sorry so many have no clue the destruction and devastation that accompanies warfare. It is the intolerance greed and lust for power of men that opens the door and it has to be the utter sacrifice of those who desire sanity that are forced to shut the door on mans inhumanity to man, it just takes years to get the rage of man contained however and in the meantime the innocent pay the price. Our founders were truly men and women of Great stature that finally gave no quarter to tyrrany.

Another great video, Katie. I came to offer a footnote. When you mentioned that all of Charlestown was burned to the ground, I was reminded of Cato Hanker's 1794 petition to the Commonwealth for indigent support. Cato, who was kidnapped in Africa and enslaved (and manumitted) in Framingham, leaned on not only his military service in the French & Indian war and the Revolution, but he mentions that "he lost considerable property by the burning of Charlestown." The petition further states that Cato's 1778 Revolutionary tour of duty left him with a permanent disability.

Perhaps this wouldn't be of interest to you or to your viewers, but I pull up Google Maps to try to identify positions and directions you mention, but the land area has changed so much from that time that I can hardly tell what's where. This viewer would find interesting the topic of how the land area of Boston and surrounds has changed from then to now.

I don't know if it's true of not, but I've read that the British used "heated shot" to set the town on fire. (Heating cannonballs red hot in small furnaces, before firing)

I have to ask: Did the Americans have bayonets? If not, why not? (They must have understood their ammunition situation).
