Yes that really helped. Before the zoom I was thinking "God how hard is it to march in Jerusalem? Just walk in and then the zoom happens and I was like "oh shit, things are more complicated than I thought"
he could have attacked with his main contigent and having the crusaders already surrounded it would have been a piece of cake but he didn't want to increase the muslims' casualties numbers and tended to have the crusaders surrender to decrease the bloodshed
He spend all his money and wealth in the cause of islam when he died They found few coins in his possession. Muslims were surprised and they had to use donation for his funeral. He even gave money to his occupied foes to help them move back to Europe those who couldn't afford it. Such a man you will only come across a person close to saluhuddin ones in a millennium.
after Hattin, he ordered 200 knights of the orders of Hospitaller and Templar be executed, he then ordered that all captured Christians be sold at slave markets. Not a good guy.
@Anime & Games World hey get out your nostalgia and see the reality dude if your community occupies Jerusalem then you will be doing nothing but simply provoking Christians and Jews for a war 😂😂 at present you people can't even take even 1 square ft of land by occupying it forcefully alone Jews are enough to send your whole community to stone age just imagine if Christians also join Jews then your existence will be vanished like dinosaurs. Why don't u live peacefully while u can why are u provoking non Muslims to agitate against you then soon you will play victim card dude leave all these non sense because you can't do anything but you can surely make some enemies for sure by showing your mentality
In French we call Salah Ad-din, "Saladin le Magnifique" : "the magnificent". I do not wish to talk in depth about the relation of France with Islam for I do not want to have conflict with anyone here. Whatever your opinion or belief is on the crusades and the crusader kingdoms, let us put aside our differences and share admiration for the greatness of one man, admired by his own but also by his enemies. Saladin deserves his honorable titles, as he and his deeds are great.
Saladin was truly one of a kind. A military genius to start. A scholar. He is due so much more respect. Saladin is the type of rare individual in history that earned respect from everyone and for good reason. Truly remarkable. I may just be an ignorant American, but i think it's important to recognize important figures such as Saladin. Regardless of our differences, we should at least be able to appreciate this amazing figure together. Much love friends.
And he was merciful, a rare quality today and just think about how rare this was at those ancient times. Differently from most military and political leaders (including many Crusaders like Richard Lionhearth), Saladin didn't indulged in massacres of civilian people or those that surrendered, for example. Neither aimed to exterminate an entire different population/culture, granting Christians and Jews religious, economic, and political freedom (in some degree) in a way better manner than what Crusader leaders did.
@@walz4635 that was more of a joke, the fact that I study world history and appreciate different figures within that history should show I'm not. It was more of a tongue in cheek comment.
Just shows how deluded people can be when they base their judgment on mass media sources, rather than primary sources. This is how a bloodthirsty coward becomes a hero.
As a Christian without bias, I'd love you to do a story of the first 3 Rashidun Abū Bakr as-Șiddīq, Omar ibn Al-Khattab, and Uthman ibn Affan. They are called the rightly guided for a good reason. Especially Omar who was also always fair in his dealings and never warred for the sake of warring. More people of all religions should watch and hear stories like these so that the Muslims stop thinking that everyone believes they are extremists and the extremists stop acting in such manner. Then the Christians tolerate more.
With so many commenters showing nothing but hate and intolerance, it's refreshing to see that there are people out there that are actually interested in discussing history. Thank you sir. Your suggestions are fantastic. I'll make sure to add them right away to the list of Muslim topics/battles that will feature in the next round of voting (we have a few projects lined up so I think in January or early February). Nevertheless, these definitely should be made, so when I skip the voting on occasion I'll most likely use the time to cover one of your suggestions.
There are very few times I'm speechless - after reading your comment - this is one of them. If only more people think like you do, this world would have been a better place. All I'd say is As Salaam alaykum to you (peace be with you).
As a Muslim, I have to say we also need to appreciate Christan history for it too is rich in culture and civilization. The Muslim east and the Christian West have prospered during their own golden era's and we saw this in the splendors of the beautiful and developed cities of Baghdad in the Muslim world and Constantinople in the Christian world.
This is the most wholesome comment section in all of youtube, it's unbelievable how a video about a man of honor influence everyone of us to be honorable, the world now needs Men like Sallah Addin.
@@JeremyFisher Still waiting for an argument though, though I'd assume you know nothing of history considering your lack of a proper response. Though, I'll give you the needed information for all to see. With much needed detail. This is what happened to the women and children after Saladin's conquest of Jerusalem: Albeit those who couldn't pay their ransom. “Women and children together came to 8,000 and were quickly divided up among us, bringing a smile to Muslim faces at their lamentations. How many well-guarded women were profaned, how many queens were ruled, and nubile girls married, and noble women given away, and miserly women forced to yield themselves, and women who had been kept hidden stripped of their modesty, and serious women made ridiculous, and women kept in private now set in public, and free women occupied, and precious ones used for hard work, and pretty things put to the test, and virgins dishonoured and proud women deflowered, and lovely women’s red lips kissed, and dark women prostrated, and untamed ones tamed, and happy ones made to weep! How many noblemen took them as concubines, how many ardent men blazed for one of them, and celibates were satisfied by them, and thirsty men sated by them, and turbulent men able to give vent to their passion. How many lovely women were the exclusive property of one man, how many great ladies were sold at low prices, and close ones set at a distance, and lofty ones abased, and savage ones captured, and those accustomed to thrones dragged down!” --- Imad ad-Din, as quoted in Arab Historians of the Crusades, translated by Francesco Gabrieli (Barnes and Noble Books, 1993), p. 162-63.

(Hurt referring to rape) Now, I'm not trying to enforce or promote a certain viewpoint here. I'm just pointing out the contradictory nature of most people's moral systems here, using you more or less as a means to point it out. I respect this historic man very much, he is very powerfull ,militarily intelligent yet very merciful to his defeated foes!! May Saladin be forever remembered..This one from American of Scandinavian ancestry.
This world needs more people like Saladin who are honorable, kind, brave, merciful, have values and priciples in every way of life, treat their enemies with respect and give an oppirtunity to peace. He not only inspired his followers but enemies too. No leader was his match at his time. May his soul rest in peace.
@World liberation in progress I dont think Saladin was alcohlic and there is no evidence of alcohlism? He was the one who liberated Al Quds and it was a great achievement. He successfully fended off crusades in Levant which was beyond imagination. As far as Fatimids are concerned, they were incapable rulers who were busy in alcohlism, adultry and other things of pleasure. They also handed over Al Quds to crusaders and had an alliance with them. Saladin removed them on the pretex of treachery and incompetency. Ismaelis attemted to kill him many times but failed to do so.
all of this is because the teachings of islam, he didn't spread peace and treated people fairly even if they are his enemies from his head, islam teaches all muslim to do so, islam teaches us in wars to not kill the elders, women, children, don't destroy houses, don't cut trees or harm animals, only kill those who oppose you and are willing to kill you, so we are not "terrorists" like the westren media says, don't get brainwashed by them, islam is the BEST and most beautiful religion and the only true religion but westrens and non-muslims show it to others the opposite of that just to brain wash you and make you follow the wrong.

@Joe Perez Muslims and Islam respect Jesus PBUH and Mary. Muslims actually pray like Jesus PBUH. Read about how Jesus prayed in the garden of gesthemane and compare that to how Muslims pray today. In the Quran there's an entire Chapter called Chapter of Mary, you don't have that in your bible. In the Quran Jesus PBUH is mentioned 25 times, Mary 31 times, Moses 131 times and Mohammad only 4 times. Oh, also we're circumcised like Jesus, and we don't eat pork like Jesus. Exactly. It's closer to what Fabius did with Hannibal. "Oh attack him now? Pff, just deny him resources and let him march his army to exhaustion first..."
@@thekinginyellow1744 i believe Hannibal was absolute among the best 5 generals in history, Ibn Walid maybe top 20/30 they tend to overate him a little because he was a muslim i think. Of all time, he had everything more then 95% score, confidence , inspiration, strategy, tactics, logistics, innovation, did the work to further his career, fought against overwhelming odds always, and he had an eye for other good military men. Believe it or not but most stuff online are now more civil and less untoxic than they used to be since the recession years. In those days it was a lot more hostile and people ranting at each other shouting jingoistic insults over even the most petty stuff than now. It is not all gone but far from what it used to be. The main cause of it was the Great Recession and people reeling from the Iraq and Afghanistan being still new. Everyone was insecure and the bottom gutter trash of society had no jobs at the time so they vented their anger online by shouting bigotry. Wait until we have another great economic and world crisis and you'll see it flare up again. However don't be surprised if it is not as severe like in the past. Most people remember how awful the toxicity was from the Recession period of everyone being so high tense it was inflaming the situation because no one wanted to talk to each other online. Next time more people will have some stigma about being like those people in the past because they want to avoid it again.

As for his house, it was very modest. Salah al-Din spent all his time among his soldiers in his camp. One day, he saw at his table with his generals two crusader knights, so he asked his men how these two appeared here They answered him, they came to the camp and told the camp guards that they wanted to have lunch with Saladin, so the guards allowed them to enter because the guards know that you, Saladin, will not prevent them from eating at your table. Salah al-Din was pleased and amazed at the people's confidence in him even among his Crusader enemies. He did not object to the behavior of the guard nor to the behavior of the knights. The historians of the Crusades, the Muslims and the Franks, tell beautiful stories about Saladin, for he was very merciful to his soldiers and his enemies as well . King Richard's horse was killed in the battle and almost captured, so Salah al-Din immediately sent him a gift horse led by a Muslim soldier telling the Muslims to stay away from the king, stay away from the king. And the horse handed him over, Salah al-Din used to send the prisoners to their families after he had sworn them on the cross not to fight him.

I studied about Saladin during my younger school days. Till today, many a leader could learn so much from this historical leader. And none can come close to the greatness of Saladin.
Baldwin IV, Richard the Lion Heart, Saint Louis IX, Roger of Sicily, Robert Guiscard, El Cid, Saint Fernando III, William the conqueror, Bohemond of Antioch, Alfonso XI, Raymond of Tolouse, Godfrey, Baldwin the I and II, Tancred, Constantine, Basil II, Otto the great, Charlemagne, Alfred the Great, Saint Edmund, Emperor Charles V, Napoleon, and I've only reached a fraction of names.

there is another one, long before saladin, Khaled ibn el Walid, Khalid fought around 200 battles, both major battles and minor skirmishes as well as single duels, during his military career. Having remained undefeated, he is considered by some scholars to be one of the finest military generals in history, a famous quote by him : I've fought in so many battles seeking martyrdom that there is no spot in my body left without a scar or a wound made by a spear or sword. And yet here I am, dying on my bed like an old camel. May the eyes of the cowards never rest. - Khalid bin Al-Walid
Akssel Gamer even Khalid ibn el Walid until the end of his last breath, could not understand why has to die in his deathbed instead. Even if he lives a long life and was to fight a 1000 wars for that matter, he could not fulfilled his desire to die in the battlefield. The ‘Sword of Allah’ in the Quran; a brave tactical warrior is mentioned but not by name. And thereafter Khalid Ibn el Walid is famously known throughout the Islamic world as as well as among the enemies in the battlefield as the Sword of Allah. Finally the day came that the unbroken sword has to be sheathed and returned to its rightful Owner. The Owner has make sure that His sword can’t be defeated in any battlefield, lest the enemies and the disbelievers would one day boasting; “Look!! We have killed the ‘Sword of Allah’!!!” Yeah, like they have boosted again and again, making their empty claims, “Look!! We have killed the Messiah!” Most certainly, they killed him not.
Bin Waleed was a war criminal and that's why the usurper Abu Bakr relieved him of his command and effectively put him under house arrest for the rest of his life. He was notorious for killing unarmed prisoners and civilians. Not such a hero after all.

An event happened shortly after Khalid's capture of Marash (Kahramanmaraş), in the autumn of 638, he came to know of Ash'as, a famous poet and warrior on Persian front, reciting a poem in praise of Khalid and receiving a gift of 10,000 dirhams from him, apparently from the state treasury.[112] expansion of rashidun caliphate. Expansion of Rashidun Caliphate Umar and his senate identified this act as misuse of state treasure, though not as punishing as to lose one's office, Khalid was already warned not to act alone, he should seek permission from his commander or Caliph for such actions. He immediately wrote a letter to Abu Ubaidah asking him to bring Khalid in front of the congregation, his turban, and take off his cap. Umar wanted Abu Ubaida to ask Khalid from what funds he gave to Ash'as: from his own pocket or from the state treasury? If he confessed to having used the spoils, he was guilty of misappropriation.[113] If he claimed that he gave from his own pocket, he was guilty of extravagance. In either case he would be dismissed, and Abu Ubaida would take charge of his duties. Abu Ubaida was himself an admirer of Khalid and loved him as his younger brother,[114] and so said that he was not capable of doing it. Instead, Bilal ibn Ribah was appointed for this task and called back Khalid from Chalcis to Emessa, where he was charged publicly.[115] Khalid stated that he gave money from his own pocket and thus was declared innocent in that charge. However, when he went to Abu Ubaida, he told him that he had been dismissed on the order of Umar and is required to go back to Medina.[116] Khalid went to Chalcis and said farewell to his mobile guard. He then went to Medina to meet Umar. He protested about what he considered to be injustice. Umar is said to have praised him in these words: "You have done; And no man has done as you have done. But it is not people who do; It is Allah who does..."[117] Later Umar explained his dismissal of Khalid: I have not dismissed Khalid because of my anger or because of any dishonesty on his part, but because people glorified him and were misled. I feared that people would rely on him. I want them to know that it is Allah who gives us victory; and there should be no mischief in the land.[118] - Caliph Umar. It was in this way that Khalid's successful military career came to an end.

Kingdom of Heaven is not a movie that cared at all about historical accuracy. It was more of a let’s make a medieval movie and put it in the Middle East. Knightfall Arn and other movies that deal with the time period and place are far better at explaining things in a more accurate way. That said there has yet to made a movie that properly encompasses the first crusade or Saladin’s rise most of it focuses on the third Crusade with most of his consolidation of power being omitted or barely mentioned even thought it was vital for his later success

@Steffan Blanco lol my point was the Crusaders were the real monsters despite being an army of God while the jihadist/muslims had sense a sense of honor. Some of the crusaders were greedy asf which led to the failure of the crusaders except baldwin
I believe it is because the crusaders had been told that they would be forgiven of all sins if they fought, so therefore they did not have to show any compassion or mercy in their invasion, meanwhile the Muslims had at least some guidelines. plus Salah ad-din was quite merciful (by 12th century standards)
I'll be honest. It is really great to see people from different religions talk well of our military leaders and show respect. I wish the world to be this peaceful.
As a Christian I believe Saladin was good man. It's like many that fought against Rommel respected him because he too was honorable. I wish we could all live in peace.
Sometimes it takes a figure like Saladin to truly appreciate our similarities as people. Every culture has a hero that stood for their principles and should be appreciated. Let us put away our divisions for a moment and truly appreciate a man that stood for his people, his god, and his country.

As a muslim i always had great respect to king Baldwin eversince i leant about him ❤ he served his people with a true pure heart & to the others aswell... history proves even Salahuddin Ayyubi himself had respected the king..
As a non muslim, I respect him for his military and intellectual qualities, but even more so for his morals and compassion towards people. For many other great conquerers I have a lot less respect when their only focus is on conquest at all costs, but Saladin was also able to bring stability and prosperity to the muslim world and was honorable even to his enemies. I think that in the bigger picture is more important then mere conquest, as many empires tend to fall apart when they focus merely on expansion. I think a great leader is someone who has a long term perspective towards the future, and from what I have read I do believe he was that kind of man.
@@Yourebeautyfull you guys are like sheep, you are brainwashed to think revisionism is a crime, Martel was a traitor but your governments today portray him as a hero, Charlemagne was a war criminal and killed more Europeans than anyone else yet he has amazing relationship with the Abbasids, Salahu Eddine was an amazing general but you in the west portray him as such just because you believe whatever your lying historians say, think Nexus THINK! You are criminals and slaves of criminals
I really love the prelude to conflict that these videos have. I think it's incredibly important to understand what leads up to major battles. Thank you for work.
I don't see a lot of criticism when Arabic words are being mispronounced. Arabs acknowledge how hard it is to pronounce Arabic words, therefore they turn a blind eye on it.
@Bambam Bigelow Indeed. It's as if he was stunned that Balian hasn't heard about him and that he keeps his word. So when Balian expressed doubt over Saladin's promise to spare the population, Saladin was almost insulted and said in disbelief: "I am, Salah ad-Din", as if to say: "Do you know who I am?", and then he reiterated a 2nd time: "Salah ad-Din", as if to drive home the fact that Saladin keeps his word at all times. It's a fantastic scene in the movie, if not the best scene.
@Bambam Bigelow He said it twice for a reason. First time he says it to let them no he is Salah Edin; and then he says it to emphasise that he is Salah Edin; this means the Righteousness of the Faith.
This might be one of the best historical videos I’ve ever watched. Even tho I know what happens and who wins the finer details you showed had me hooked, mix with the music and the great narrator I was on the edge of my seat, it was intense and I enjoyed it immensely. Only criticism is you don’t upload enough ;) keep it up (Y)
Salah-ah Din really had an impressive education and up bringing that truly determined his character as a grown man. Here we see the basis for his diplomatic and humanitarian expertise and mindset which far excelled that of many of his contemperies. He could be ruthless when it suited his aims, but as we see after the siege of Jerusalem in 1187, he could also be highly magnimonious towards honourable and courageous enemies such as Balian of Ibelin.

This was one of the best documentaries in general talking about this. Matter a fact I believe that you are probably the best. You go in depth in what your talking about so you get a view of what’s going on. You show the battle and then the results as well with the same quality as in the whole video. Overall a great video and keep up the good work! Edit: Moreover, you go in depth in the video and it actually makes it feel like your immersed into the time period and what’s going on. It always sucks me into this void of interest in the time period. It just feels like I am in the time period of what happened and the battles etc
FInally, Finally, an Impartial channel without Propaganda ! and the Animation and Narration were nice. Thank You! Ironically the state of the Middle East before the rise of Saladin is similar to what's happening now.
Lord Alehandro that was due to salahudeens tactics of besieging a city wth a queen/princess inside, this made him lure the crusaders out into open hot desert landscape, so he could fight them in open battle and lay ambushes.
Salahuddin was just a king in the world at that time, imagine how good the Khalifah was (abu Bakr, omar, Utsman, ali, etc) . Khalifah just a leader for islam nation who inspire from Muhammad (peace be upon him), imagine how perfect Muhammad is being a human and messenger. Muhammad just a human being and messenger from his god "Allah", imagine how great Allah is. Allahuakbar!!!!!
@@malektahri5590 In the rule of caliph Abu bakr muslims expanded their territory by conquering Damascus and some of Byzantine territory and in the rule of caliph Umar Muslims conquered Jerusalem , emissa and defeated heavily outnumbered Byzantine army in the battle of yarmouk (In all of these battles Khalid ibn walid was commanding the Muslim army)
